“I have to say that DCS has created something that is so unique and exciting that you won't have a choice but to keep turning the pages.” -P.S. I love Books
"We're villains, as much as we are capable of being heroes..." A lifetime ago, Stefano Vasco Terenzio saw one way to maneuver his family into a game of betrayal against an unbeatable enemy; walking into a bullet. A generation later, what started with one man's ego will determine the fate of the whole word. For centuries The Brotherhood and their Gods, the Anunnaki have hidden in plain sight among us. For centuries they have lied, sacrificed man by the thousands, and manipulated humanity into their service. As the clock ticks closer to December 21st, 2012, they will stop at nothing to keep their control of planet Earth. In the thrilling sequel to Synarchy Book 1: The Awakening, the end is only the beginning. Secrets emerge that will challenge the core of everything you think you believe. All the while a team of scientists must make sense out of the fantastical, and the tenuous link holding together the one family that can save humankind, shatters.

I'll definitely be limiting the details of my review for those who have yet to read the first book in the series. Synarchy Book 2: The Ascension continues the story of the Terenzio family fighting to save humanity. The Brotherhood have been in control of Earth since the dawn of man - under their Gods the Annunaki. Ruthless and cunning, both the Brotherhood and the Annunaki will do whatever it takes to stay in control. The time is 2012 and as the planets slowly come together for their alignment, humanity is finally given another chance to ascend. When one ascends it is like "waking up" to the truth. All will be revealed during the ascension and every puzzle piece in one's life will finally click in place and make sense.
The Terenzio family is a large and extremely powerful mafia-like organization. They have connections and ties to almost everywhere in the world including to the Annunaki themselves. Not all of the Annunaki believe it is right to enslave humanity. Just like not all of the Terenzios believe the Ascension should happen. Betrayal and loyalty are so heavily enterwined in the novel and its characters. The story leads up to the "D-day", December 21, 2012 - the day of the Ascension. The action and characters will blow you away and definitely leave you eagerly wanting Book 3 to be released!
The Synarchy books are definitely ones to be savoured. The world is complex and filled with strong characters, reincarnation concepts, and chapters that jump back and forth between time and character point of views. It's very easy to get lost with the numerous characters but equally easy to become entirely engrossed in the writing. The story can be somewhat overwhelming at times but again, I have to say that DCS has created something that is so unique and exciting that you won't have a choice but to keep turning the pages.
I enjoyed the detail given to the Annunaki. They were rarely mentioned and remained a mystery in the first book. Also introduced is the Galactic Federation. One can call them aliens but they are much more than that. Different mythical beings, including Angels, found in the novel give the reader an entirely new perspective on the idealogy and religion that has been around since...well forever. The characters are forced to question everything they have ever known and its easy for the reader to ask themselves those very same questions. That in itself creates a bond between reader and character that is very seldom seen in the recent books I've read.
I highly recommend both Synarchy novels because they are filled with so much creativity. I enjoyed Book 2 more than Book 1 because more detail and background information was able to come into play more. I also found myself really caring and connecting with the characters. DCS has much planned for her series and I look forward to continuing on with the Terenzio family and their fight to save the world!
**I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**
When I sat down to write the review of the first book in this series, I had no idea what to say. It took me a while to really evaluate the second book as well. But the reasons for that are not negative at all.
The Ascension picks up where The Awakening left off. One of the things that I failed to mention in the first review, is that this series has to do with the year 2012, the date that the world is supposedly ending. However, it deals with this concept in a way that I've never heard of and in a way that completely blows your mind. The book was no different from the first. You're constantly learning mind blowing things and the pace is kept up through the entirety of this book as the clock winds down to December 21, 2012.
One of my biggest complaints from the first book was that I felt like nothing was really resolved and it left me clamoring for the second book. This one also left off on sort of a sour note for me. You know that there is so many questions to be answered, and only some of them are. Unfortunately, according to her website, the 3rd book in the series, which is going to be Synarchy Book 3: The 13th Skull, won't be released until the November of this year. According to DCS, that is supposed to answer more of my questions and there will also be a 4th book, called Synarchy Book 4: SVT which I think might be more background on the family and that's looking to be released in December! After starting this book and reacquainting myself with the characters, things started happening at an alarming rate. It was one of those books that left on cliffhangers at the end of chapters, so it was almost impossible to make myself put it down. I think I read it in 2 separate sittings, and that was only because of work.
I also really loved the general message of these books. One of the main things is family, and not only family, but love. There are stories between certain characters that were so intense and I got very emotionally attached to some of the characters and their relationships.
I can not recommend this book more highly and I'm really eager to see what the next book is going to be like. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars and say read it!
DCS has proven herself to be an author who truly listens to her readers. With improved editing and a ‘cast list’ at the front of the book, I feel like DCS is an author who is always trying to improve – something I greatly appreciate. I fully admit to referring to the cast list from time to time, but having it so readily available kept me in the story.
Once again, I am reminded how much I fell completely in love with the Terenzio family in the first book. The concept of a mafia family coming forward to save humanity is wonderfully refreshing fiction. While I am looking forward to getting to know the triplets – the focus of the story – more, I’m so fascinated by the entire family that I never feel disappointed.
One of my favourite aspects of this book is how much time DCS spent in the past, giving us glimpses of the complicated events that led up to the current storyline. Whereas some authors I have read don’t handle time jumps well, DCS does well – and not just because she puts times and locations at the beginning of each section. I absolutely loved getting a stronger sense of the history of the Terenzio family as well as the other players.
I love how much realism DCS injects into this book. Even people working for the same cause don’t completely agree on all the same things. I loved reading about the SVT Think Tank and how even one of the scientists there was a bit sceptical of everything. I highly enjoyed reading about realistic people rather than people who follow blindly because ‘it’s right’.
Synarchy: Book 1 was like a slap upside the head. It introduced me to concepts I'd never conceived of, and did it in a wildly entertaining way. Book 2, The Ascension, is like a punch to the gut. It's as visceral as Book 1 is cerebral, and I couldn't read it fast enough. Very unique, very compelling, and a very emotional read. I highly recommend it.
PS: This isn't your typical 2012, end of the world disaster story, either. I have never seen the the 2012 phenomenon handled in this way, and it is such an intriguing concept.
