Dragon Magic

Rate this book
In Dragon Magic , the fourth book of the Haven Series, the Kindred call upon Brand for help. Things are not right in their kingdom beneath Snowdon. Modi has led a treasure-hunting expedition deep into the Everdark, a place where spine-terrors, blind croaking things and great wurms reside. But it's been weeks, Modi is overdue, and the Gudrin fears the worst. Brand journeys into the magnesium bowels and beyond, and discovers things buried there that he wishes he had never disturbed.

Dragon Magic is a little longer than Shadow Magic .

Larson intrigued me with his Hyborean Dragons series. I am even more enthralled with this series. Book 4 brings new horrors and magical awe. While Brand and Telyn face high-heat claustrophobia, River Folk Mari treads snowy labor among a witch, a troll, and Pliskin of the Wee Folk.

Telyn has always had a delicate touch that soothes beasts, especially a wild horse. This makes sense that she has the same effect on an axe-weilding berserker. With the Wild Hunt forever gone, the Wee Folk and River Folk can now live peacefully. The Fair Folk, tricksters and debaucherous, can stay in the Twilight Lands and The Kindred, engineers and dormant, can go back to their Earthlight and Everdark living. But Modi the Warrior gets stuck on a forbidden mining expedition, forsaken by his clansmen, and dependent upon a small rescue team consisting of Berserker Brand's Axe of Ambros, his second Telyn, and Lavatis owner Tomkin of the Wee Folk. Where sleeping dragons lie, champions tend to get burned.

Book 4 of the Haven series, covers the find of another of the Nine Jewels of Power. Whilst there are some minor side plots the main focus of the story is of Brand’s attempt rescue of a group of Kindred, led by Modi has got stuck during a adventure in the Everdark. Modi has undertaken this adventure against the wishes and command of his father, so when he sends a call for help back with one of the survivors, help is refused. Gudrin cannot stand by whilst her friend is abandoned and sends word to Brand and asks for help.
Brand arrives, and sets off into the Everdark in order to rescue Modi. It turns out that things are worst than they thought, as they come face to face with a dragon who is guarding her eggs. Can Brand help Modi and secure the rescue of Kindred?
The story moves along at a good pace, and whilst it is enjoyable, other than the finding of another of the jewels the book doesn’t seem to have moved the overall story much further forward. Up next is Blood Magic and the finding of another of the jewels.

Good Book

Enjoyable read and great continuation of the trilogy. This tells what you do after you've saved the world and all that.
