When she left, they fell apart. Now she's back and it's her turn to Fall.
I married my three best friends when I was ten, ran from them and everything I knew at eighteen to save one of them and now I’m back at twenty eight with no idea of who I am as a woman or what I want my future to look like. All I really know is, if I’m going to Fall, it’s going to be for ME
She was our everything, our future, but she ran away, broke us and left us in pieces for ten long years. Now she’s back and no matter how hard she tries to keep her distance and her secrets from us, we’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth and then make her fall just as hard as we did.
Falls Like Rain is a small town, second chance, why choose romance with lots of sweetness, humor, detailed steam, healing and a touch of angst. No MM, no OW drama or cheating and No choosing. A MFC that digs deep to find her true self, heal and build a future where she takes what she wants and refuses to change herself to fit into anyone’s box. This book in print is 355 pages long.
Reese Rivers is a RH romance author who lives in Alberta, Canada. She is addicted to coffee, inappropriate memes, dark humor and happy ever afters. Her happiest place on earth is at her camper in the forest where like Snow White, she attracts all the critters - mosquitoes instead of birds and skunks instead of bunnies. She would live there full time if not for the Canadian deepfreeze that is winter. Her latest RH novel, Burn Butterfly Burn was the #1 Book in Australia and #2 in the USA and Canada
I am beyond disappointed, I thought I'd try out this author again because I LOVED Reese's Dance Butterfly Dance.
But this? This was so... boring.
The plot in 2 seconds : Rain(FMC) was forced by her harem's dad to leave when she was barely of age.... then she comes back 10 years later. The 3 guys have been miserable in those 10 years. Now she’s back, they find out the truth, and that's that!
Falls Like Rain disappoints with its shallow plot and underdeveloped characters. The characters themselves felt 2D; they felt... emotionless almost. Also, what was the purpose of FMC's shitty fiancé coming to see her while she was getting her father's affairs in order? Literally, his presence added nothing significant to the story.
FMC's aspirations of self-discovery and independence were almost non-existent... she tried tho LOL
The small-town setting offers so much potential, but unfortunately, it feels lifeless and lacks personality. The side characters serve mainly as fillers, and their absence wouldn't have significantly impacted the overall story... it's sad to say I liked some of the side characters better... But in general, I feel like the author missed the opportunity to delve into a broader, more engaging storyline.
Anyways, on to my favourite part: the editing!
100% needed to be edited. I felt like it wasn't.
Falls Like Rain was riddled with grammatical/punctuation errors, awkward word choices, and poorly constructed sentences. It was so distracting.
Also, the fact that the author confuses terms like fiancée (female) and fiancé (male), had me cringing!
Please pull this one off the shelf and get it edited properly 😭
Honestly... the best part of the book was reading the Author's Note at the beginning:
"First and foremost, I can confirm... you can have sex on the back of a horse!" _________________________________
Too fast. This was so sweet, light, fast and fun, with touches of gentle sadness.
But too fast. The plot, the details, it was too complicated for something so sweet, short, and fast.
The beginning, was hard to relate to, as we didn’t have enough history with the characters, we couldn’t feel afraid, couldn’t feel real sympathy or empathy for the choice the FMC was making. Not until way further in the story. [that needed more history, more backstory so we could feel her emotions when making her choice]
We spent so much time on the FMC’s grief, we didn’t get to know the MMC’s as much, which was a disappointment, as they were all well written, likeable, and interesting.
I didn’t understand why she kept the secret once she returned exactly? At first sure, but once they confronted her? I needed more understanding there.
The guys all learnt how to adjust too quickly, too easily, especially as they had just been fighting it. That kind of acceptance takes time to ‘actually’ learn. Conversations, experiments.. It’s the whole virgin trope, who has ‘amazing’ sex first time 😅😬 which this included with one of the M’s 😂 Their acceptance and easy adjustment didn’t read real.
This story deserved better. It was too well written, thought out, beautifully told. It deserved better than a trope that allowed it to be shortened and squished. 🥹 These felt like shortcuts.
I really wish her acceptance of them could have waited a bit longer, allowed her to achieve her goals while standing on her own. Their romantic big moment should have come after she had achieved her independence moment, after she had stood -on her own-with her community-single and strong-proud and calm.
My only real criticism for what I didn’t like, as opposed to bits I wish it had more of…was the constant referral to her being responsible for ‘messing’ things up. For the hurt and damage ‘she’ caused.
BULLSHIT!
Spoiler Alert.🚨🚨🚨🚨
While her actions may have led to hurt feelings, She Was Just Turned 18! Alone, terrified, and feeling responsible, with no one to turn to. A female who is being threatened with sexual assault! A child-woman who has spent years being responsible for others, being emotionally manipulated and blackmailed with their well-being.
She deserves compassion and empathy. She deserves accolades for all she survived and achieved! Most in her circumstances, with that kind of trauma, don’t!
The continued referrals to ‘what she caused’, piss me off. 🤬
Even if she had been responsible for the choice, It Still Wouldn’t Make Her Responsible For Their Choices! 😤🤯 For Fucks Sake. She didn’t make them do anything, didn’t hold a gun to them, blackmail them, threaten them…nothing! [unlike her]. She is not responsible for their screw ups, they are!
Right up till the end, she and 2 of the M’s refer to what she caused..🤬🤬🤬 They should have vocally accepted responsibility for their choices and actions, just as she constantly did.
That little burr within aside, this was a very likeable story. Just needed to either be simplified, give more experience, knowledge, less angst, something…or make it longer and fill those parts in. Otherwise, it’s a little too light and shallow to give a higher rating.
Not gonna lie. This was a solid read until the truth as to why she left came out around 30%. It was just too early for the angst to be over. It showed some come back when Rain decided she was going to put herself first and stop being what everyone thought she should be. That she would discover who she is without a man. But that didn’t really last long either as within a few days, maybe a week, she’s sleeping with two of the guys. Then at somewhere around 85ish% what did Rain do? She hid from the guys for days….so much for growth. At 90% they all fully commit to each other and that is where I DNFd. It was just…flat. And I was just…..disappointed.
This is a surface level plot with surface level characters with such little momentum in advancement. The author doesn't know the difference between fiancée and fiancé. The author also doesn't know how to format a book correctly. A quick Google search would also help the author when quoting a song + artist in her work. There are so many missed opportunities in this novel; it's set in a small town, but the town is devoid of life or personality. The side characters were there as mostly filler; honestly, most of the "story" could have been told without them. Falls Like Rain is FULL of comma splices; awkward word choices; and Frankenstein sentences. Man, some of the ideas that the author has (I'm including her previous works) could have been amazing, but she fails to give the ideas adequate time to mature. I strongly recommend that R. Rivers takes a creative writing, language and/or editing classes.
Oh Reese Reese Reese No wonder you're my favorite RH romance author❤👫👬
It was 4.7🌟🌟🌟🌟🔅
I finished this book in one setting and it's ironic that I just DNFed another RH book the other day for being too loooong, but I wanted this one to be longer I know I said Romance books should not more than 350-400 pages, but the formating of the paperback makes this book around 250 not 325
‐‐-----------------------------------------------‐-------------------------------- Anyways (you can skip this part) A few notes if you are interested in reading Reese's books
1- she's an indie author. She does the writing, drafting and editing herself. She could use Beta and Alpha readers to help out, but even then, mistakes will appear in the book AND I JUST DONT CARE
2- she's primarily a why-choose author. However, her stories take on different plots, genres, and themes. She writes contemporary, paranormal. Time travel...wherever the wind of her story takes her
3- her stories are fast paste. She doesn't dwell much on descriptions and trivial everyday routins to fill her books. Even the plotlines are fast happening. AGAIN SOMETHING I LOVE when I consider a certain author as
4- sometimes her books end ubruptly. THIS I DONT LIKE. I hope she works on that
So you have your typical small town young love. Rain, Chase, Rex and Luke grow up together, fall in love and make a vow to stay together. Still, in a small town, being in a RH relationship is frowned upon. The boys want Rain to choose when she's 18. Enter daddy dearest 👺 who threatens her and pushes her to leave. 10 years later (why is it always 5 or 10 years!!!), Rain comes back and secrets are revealed
The boys (now Men) has to accept that she's not choosing. IT'S ALL OR NOTHING.
but this is what I loved about the book Rain wasn't the one pushing or pining for the boys She's just got out of a toxic relationship, and now she wants to do WHAT SHE WANTS TO DO
Usually in spice books, when a women says "it's time for me to do what I want" it falls under her sleeping around 🙄 as if sex is the only liberation!
Not Rain. She takes control of her independence and finances. She starts planning her future career with her best friend. And she's "if they want me, they have to accept me as I am: I am no one's fixer upper anymore"
I loved how the men were all grumpy and grouchy but once they realized there is a chance with Rain, they're like happy puppies 🐶 😊
I also loved how she was not broken by her leaving. Usually in such books, she's a stripper or a waiter or homeless or something.
There were many underline themes that I would have seen been explored more, but knowing Reese's style, this was satisfying
I also wished there were more flashbacks to their past relationships or their time away to see how the separation was devastating
The book just ended!!!😯 NO epilogue, no afterwards! Hope Reese works on this in the future But this by no means took away the enjoyment of the read
What I loved: -small town with a diner that has the one specific waitress who knows everyone & everything, is that a trope? Because I’m a sucker for it haha. -Hetter!! Omg he was hilarious 😂 such a great character. -Rain making herself a priority. Once she finally had enough, she figured out what she wanted and went for it. -Chase’s vulnerability. It may have taken him a bit to admit it, but my heart soared that he was honest in his fears of moving forward with Rain.
Two things I wasn’t a fan of: -why didn’t she just come right out and tell them why she left once she was back? She had absolutely nothing to lose. I get wanting to create tension but I felt like it went on a bit too long for a standalone.
-we don’t really get to see them functioning as an actual group once they get together. Relationships didn’t start forming until almost 60% and then she was fighting her feelings until well over 80%. Plus, the epilogue was barely a week out from the ending. I was hoping for years to have passed so we got to see how their dynamic settled since it was mentioned multiple times that each guy had spent years convincing themselves that only one of them would end up with her.
"Maybe as we get older, it's okay for dreams to just mean being happy. You got to ask yourself, what would make you happy, Rain? Once you figure that out, the rest will fall into place.”
FALLS LIKE RAIN was a sweet, second-chance RH romance about our FMC Rain coming home after being gone for 10 years and reuniting with the men she left behind. There is small-town charm, great supporting cast & I liked how Rain didn't immediately fall back into her guy's arms. She wanted to build a life for herself first which I admired and made the romance feel more genuine when it did happen. 3.5 Stars!
Memorable Quotes
Rage flashes over Maggie’s face as she sits up rigidly in her seat. “Motherfucker! I’ll get the shovels, you start the car. Hetter will give us our alibis!”
“I’ll take anything you’re willing to give to me. Anything. I’m yours, and I’ll always be yours.”
“Rain didn’t choose me. I fucking chose her. I choose her happiness. I choose to be hers, no matter what. I don’t care if she wants to be with Rex or you or all three of us. As long as she’s happy, as long as she loves me, that’s all that matters.”
“Splish-splash their opinions are trash. If other people’s small-minded opinions are more important to you than a future with the woman you love, then you don’t deserve her.”
"We just want you, every version of you, and that’s perfect to us.”
Taking tropes I usually don't like and making me like them. Knew I could trust Reese Rivers ♥♥ and Y E S I'm hella looking forward to Star's book!
Ugh, I'm sorry this isn't a great review, I'm just totally brain dead. So let's see...
--second chance romance where the reason for the initial separation made sense. Not cheating! --small town setting, great hometown characters, no OW drama, good healing and fixing herself NOT her guys --3 guys (twins & cousin) Lawyer, bar owner/ex-bull rider, veteran// no bullying, childhood friends/sweethearts-to-strangers-to-lovers, 1 of them hasn't had sex before, no bad-mouthing her-- honestly the guys are hella respectful --🌶🌶🌶 --Read for the vibes (vibes: abused, down on her luck gal revamps herself and decides she ain't taking sh!t from no one-- not even her childhood friends-- and then the guys decide to worship her forever) honestly, best vibes. --Hetter ♥♥♥ H E T T E R ♥♥♥ Best friend's fiancé stole the show for me. We all love a good prankster and this man is so funny and adorable. I would totally read a MF book on Hetter & Maggie getting together. #CoupleGoals
This book had all the ingredients for a compelling reverse harem romance: a small-town setting, a second-chance storyline, and a heroine returning to her past loves. However, the execution fell a bit flat for me. The characters lacked depth, making it hard to connect with their emotions and motivations. The plot felt underdeveloped, and the writing could have benefited from more thorough editing. That said, there were moments of sweetness and humor that kept me engaged enough.
COVER = 4/5 PACE = 3/5 - fast PLOT = 1/5 - Rain(FMC) was forced by her harem's dad to leave when she was barely of age.... then she comes back 10 years later. The 3 guys have been miserable in those 10 years. Now she’s back, they find out the truth, and that's that! (took this from Ana's Review) CHARACTERS = 2/5 - flat characters... it's really bad WORLD BUILDING = 2/5 - small town, lacked personality and depth ROMANCE = 3/5 -it was mid WRITING = 2/5 - BAD.. like an first time author wrote it. needed editing... a lot of it...
Reese was right!! I felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie on not steamy steroids!! Rain, Chase, Luke and Rex are all wonderful Chaz and I definitely wanted more of their story.
I have read three Reese Rivers books. Falls like rain Unbreak me Dying to love All three of them have gotten five stars from my cynical a$$. Are they perfect? No. Are they precious? Absolutely. They are the palate cleansers that you didn’t know you needed. I have read “Dying to Love” twice and could read it a third time and be OK with it. Furthermore, I very rarely leave actual reviews, but I have devoured her books in one sitting. My only complaint is that it’s over too soon, I would love for them to be duets where you get more time with the characters, especially the MMCs, you get enough of them for the story, but I would love to get more.
Rain's back to settle her dead father's affairs. She also has to face the three men she walked out on 10 years ago. Didn't really enjoy this as much as I wanted. I generally like this author's writing but something felt off about this book. I wish the author hadn't revealed the 'big secret' to why Rain left in the first chapter. The story would've had more angst with everyone wondering why she left. Rain annoyed me with keeping the secret from the guys when she could've just been honest. The guys were ok but I wish their personalities were fleshed out more. Surprisingly, Luke was my favorite despite him being the cinnamon of the group. Dude turned into a beast in bed and had me clutching pearls. The book also ended weirdly abrupt and I kept wondering if this was an editing mistake. It was that sudden. Didn't connect much to the characters and couldn't care less about Starlight's story so I won't be reading her book.
I liked this book because it was a bit different from the usual trope of second chance romance. Usually the big "revelation" happened around the end and then you get the HEA. Here, when the guys happened to know why Rain quitted them, it took them time to boung again especially because Rain decided to put herself before anybody and chose to build her future. Quit empowering! So, the FMC wasn't an hormonal pudding at the mercy of her guys but an independant woman who focused first on understanding who she was and what she wanted in life rather than depending on guys! 🥰

Sometimes you want decadent dark chocolate. Sometimes you want vanilla ice cream. Sometimes you want something a little in between - a balance of the bitter and the sweet.
That’s where this book falls. It’s a small-town second chance romance - imagine the ice cream melting in your mouth - with a reverse harem twist. Add some slightly heavier emotional issues and you’ve found the dark chocolate topping. Think a why-choose Sweet Home Alabama.
This book also has a best friend’s partner with the most wonderfully made sayings. It’s great fun- give it a go.
I really enjoyed the buildup and angst in the first half of this book but the second half felt so rushed that it made me not enjoy the book as much overall. This is one of the rare instances that I wish this book was a tad longer to flesh out the back half more rather than usually wanting books to edit down a bit. To me, this book was good but had the potential to be great.
Small town, second chance why choose romance and she's done it again! This is not a fast burn, pace filled why choose - so don't go in expecting that. This is an exploration and consideration of how polyamory/why choose relationships can work, and the different personalities and how they can blend together. After returning home to settle affairs post the death of her father, our FMC returns to 3 men she left behind years ago. What happens next is a romance rekindling with the two brothers/one cousin, as well as a story of self growth for our FMC. It isn't until the last 1/4 of the book that the spice happens but once it happens - oh BOY. Buckle up readers, its about to get wild.
If you love Elsie Silvers cowboy romances ... Add three men to one girl. Reese Rivers writes "why choose" with perfection. Plenty of angst and all the feels. She gives life to her characters with deep feelings and fun banter. Another favorite of hers is the duology Dance Butterfly Dance.
Light, easy read - a flirty palate cleanser, especially compared to books I’ve previously read from Reese Rivers (i.e. Unbreak Me which covered much darker themes).
Loved this book , small town , second chance why choose romance. It had me hooked from the very first page. I loved Rain and the Kingston men and I can't wait for what's to come next in this universe.
