Marie Dorléans studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, France. Since her graduation in 2010, she has created children's book as both author and illustrator. The Night Walk won the Landerneau Children's Book Prize, and was shortlisted for the Prix Sorcières. Marie Dorléans breathes poetry and delicacy into her stories with realistic, carefully observed illustrations.

Then the spectators notice that some of the jockeys are riding in unconventional positions. Finally, when there is an accident that brings all the horses down, one determined jockey carries on, only to find that his prize isn't what he expected it to be...
Originally published in France as Course épique, and translated into English by the Australian publisher Wilkins Farago, The Epic Race offers an amusing look at horse racing, concluding with a droll scene that will leave readers chuckling. The format of the book - it is short in height, and quite long in length - is well-suited to the subject matter, and makes for extended two-page spreads that allow author/illustrator Marie Dorléans to capture the horizontal energy of her tale. Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books about horse racing, or children's stories with an offbeat sense of humor.
