The ground-breaking model to achieve true well-being and optimal brain functioning. In The Pyramid Mind, Dr Vlad Beliavsky introduces his life-changing approach to organising the way we think. He breaks down our minds into six interconnected areas, each of which contributes to who we are and affects our mental and physical health, relationships and daily performance. Combining pioneering research and insight with traditional therapeutic schools – including mindfulness and CBT – The Pyramid Mind will teach you how your mind really works. Vlad’s integrative approach reveals how to manage your thoughts, emotions, habits and memories; how to grow and become the person you would like to be; and how to enhance your confidence and sense of happiness. Vlad Beliavsky, PhD, is a psychologist, philosopher and author. Born in Ukraine and educated in the UK, Vlad is the creator of the self-care method known as the Pyramid Model and the founder of Brightway journaling app. Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Vlad has enlisted in the Ukrainian army, where he also provides psychological support to his fellow troops.
This book added a new dimension to how I viewed self-care, and the role thoughts play in our life.
I am now looking at the power of my brain in a different light. These muscles might look like a piece of flesh to you, but we realize their power only when something goes wrong with them. The author made me realize the beauty of the muscles in our brains, with many known examples. His way of building the story around MMA to convey his point made me understand how one skill set isn't enough for us to think we can survive in this world.
The author then introduces his readers to the Pyramid Model, which focuses on a human's long-term and short-term memory. It's crucial for all of us to understand why we are behaving in the way we are and how memories play a significant role in our lives. As stated by the author, 'The Pyramid Model consists of six interconnected parts that are responsible for six key mental functions: reason, beliefs, memories, emotions, speech, and behavior. Each of these six parts of the mind uniquely contributes to who you are and affects your mental well-being, physical health, relationships, and daily performance. These six areas of our mind help in achieving optimal well-being, sense of happiness, and performance'.
The book walks you through every part of the pyramid in great detail. In case you have forgotten which part of the pyramid you are reading about, the author has made sure to have the visual representation there in every chapter to help you navigate through it. Toward the end of every chapter, the author gives the readers a chapter summary to recap their learnings. The way the author speaks about a particular type of memory, he also layers down the common problems we face with that memory and gives us ways to set the training goals for our brains and the practices that can help with that.
Everything is so well explained, practical, and doable that you can choose to pick one thing at a time, and being consistent with them will bring the change in you that you wish to see in you. Everything is well tabulated and mapped for their readers to refer to every time they read the book for guidance.
I appreciate the author for sharing his story and how he applied all these practices when writing this book. It really helped me understand how to put things into practice.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the author for defining simple concepts like 'over-whelming,' 'emotional regulation,' 'stressed out,' and many more. My Ph.D. Journey has created havoc in my life. Years ago my therapist introduced me to the concept of 'thought journaling', and I have maintained my thought journal to help me navigate his journey, but the author gave me a sense of direction on what to do next. The limited words we use to express our emotions do not actually justify our emotions. I will have to learn to understand what exactly I am feeling, label those emotions aptly, and tag them to my chain of thoughts to understand what action to take. I will keep returning to this book for help and guidance.
If you ask me what is my favourite genre, then it is definitely non-fictions and within that category I really like learning more about our minds and also about species roots (Anthropology). A month ago I came across this fantastic book called : "The Pyramid Mind" by Dr. Vlad Beliavsky.
As I started reading this book, I instantly felt connected to his words and thoughts. In this era of chaos, I feel we all need to learn effective techniques to have control over our thoughts and actions by understanding the basics of how our mind works and how to use its best potentials to achieve what we seek for.
It unveils a transformative framework for understanding and improving our mental well-being.
I definitely like reading psychology and neuroscience backed books and this is one of them which presents to a whole new perspective to understand such concepts and apply in our process.
Dr. Vlad's holistic approach empowers us to shape our identities, boost confidence, and foster happiness. I am still reading it everyday, and trying to understand and unlock my true being.
Theres no doubt that I highlywholeheartedly recommend this Simon and Schuster published non fiction by an actual psychologist whose approach is useful and practical.
This is really well written and gives a solid framework of how to approach self-care with evidence based methods that he has used as a psychotherapist. It breaks down theory in the first half of the book - which helps inform the reader with facts about how the brain and body work together and feeds nicely into his model. In the 2nd part he focuses on a 6 common problems that are associated to different areas of how we behave, giving exercises to help shift behaviours that don’t serve you well.
For anyone looking to improve their mental wellbeing and increase self awareness of the way you think and act, this is a great book to start this journey.
The best explanation of how to work with your mind that I've ever come across. The concept is fresh and insightful. It first explains in a very clear and accessible way how your brain works. And then it goes on to give you a step-by-step guide how to get your mind in order – how to manage your thoughts, memories, emotions, habits. The book is well structured, well-written, and it provides many actionable strategies.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 How the mind functions is a question everyone must have asked themselves at least once in their lives. Dr. Beliavsky discusses how the human brain works in mysterious and interesting ways with the help of a double pyramid in his book, The Pyramid Mind. The book is divided into four parts with detailed explanations of his theories, references to many scientific studies, and rather peculiar neurological cases in human history. Very practical advice on how to help yourself become a little bit better, a little bit more content every day. Very realistic approaches. Simple methods, explained in easy words. At times a bit too simple and basic for my taste. But overall this book is definitely way better than 99% of other self-care genre books. No fuss, no fog, just offering some proven methods structured by a simple six layer model, that's easy to understand and to follow for everyone.

The Pyramid Model, based on the latest psychology and neuroscience, gives a practical, adaptable plan for anyone wanting to change themselves. The whole thing's amazing, but the "Mixed Marshal Art" concept is the best part.

I've started my reading journey with feel-good books. Books that give me a sudden boost in my energy level, and uplift my mood but do no good in the long term. I used reading to stay away from painful feelings and thoughts until I figured out that this approach is flawed.
A large part of who we are comes from our beliefs and memories. We unconsciously carry some beliefs of our parents, siblings and elders, and mentors. The environment we live in shapes the way we think, behave, and act. Our conditioning and memories result in how we think.
The pyramid mind is not for those seeking quick fixes for
their problems (overthinking or lack of emotional control.) It is for those who want to understand the concept of memories, and beliefs so that they can understand and help themselves better. I've read quite many books now but this stands above every book in this genre.
The book is easy to read and beginners friendly and should

Overall a practical and engaging guide to maintaining good mental health.
This book offers a fresh and unique perspective by combining ideas from psychology, psychotherapy, philosophy, and martial arts. The author believes that life would be easier if we had a manual to understand our minds, and through this book, he attempts to create one using what he calls the Pyramid Model. This model explains six key parts of our mind – reason, beliefs, memories, emotions, speech, and behaviour – and how each part influences our mental health and daily life.
The book explains complex topics like memory types, habits, meditation, emotional awareness, and self-talk in a simple and practical way. It also encourages readers to reflect on their experiences, rewrite their personal stories, and take small steps towards self-improvement. The connection between integrative therapy and mixed martial arts was unexpected but interesting. The idea that both aim to combine the best of different methods to form a stronger whole was very insightful.
Though some parts, especially the chapter on personal mastery, may require a second read for better understanding, the book remains informative and thought-provoking.
