This volume follows the same user-friendly format of the earlier God So Loved the World , organizing the chapters according to the traditional days of Holy Week with expanded discussion and additional materials. After discussing the scriptural accounts for each day of Holy Week, the chapters then summarize how these scriptural events have been celebrated through the centuries in different Christian traditions before sharing suggestions on how Latter-day Saints can both study the texts and commemorate the events in their own families.
Nonfiction scholarly approach to celebrating the Easter Season with ideas for specific scriptures, music, readings, and activities to do the week of Holy Week. I especially loved the beautiful color artwork included of the Savior from different centuries and countries.
Lots of great ideas for ways to celebrate Easter. I especially enjoyed the blend of scriptural and historical commentary used to illustrate the significance behind Christian traditions.
This is a no-brainer to purchase for Latter-day Saint families. It’s a book that by its nature can easily cause lasting change in a family, because it deals in family traditions. Easter traditions should take on something of the warm familial worship of the Christmas season, because it’s really Easter that is the more essential and holy of the two holidays.
Our family adopted the suggested Easter wreath idea, with the three colored candles to light during different parts of Holy Week as a part of our nightly scripture readings (also using the book for the readings!). It brought a special spirit to each night and made our children more engaged. I can see this becoming a family tradition.
More than a manual for Easter celebrations, though, Huntsman & Hatch also provide a well-reasoned, scholarly commentary on the selected scripture passages. Paired with their new renditions of the Greek which can be found free on Huntsman’s website (the book itself sticks to the KJV in its readings), it takes on the style of the BYU New Testament Commentaries, but focusing only on Easter. This alone makes it special. But add in the practical value of its suggestions for coming closer to Christ during the season, and it’s a must-own.
This is an excellent book to combine biblical scholarship, scriptures, and ideas for celebrating Holy Week and Easter. I loved reading this book and enhancing my preparations for celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ. The artwork is incredible and worth the price of the book alone. I hope to read this book each Easter season and continue to share it with my family in our daily devotionals.
It took me a while longer to complete this book than I originally thought it would but while very information heavy, it’s an incredible book to read as a member of the LDS faith. It expanded my knowledge of my Savior and deepened my love and gratitude for His atonement and resurrection. Highly recommend to any member of the LDS faith.
This book isn't as cute as the Easter book by Emily Belle Freeman (which is also an amazing book that helps families observe Easter). It is incredibly in depth. As we have been charged to make the Easter season as important as the Christmas season, this is the perfect book to gain understanding and meaningful worship.
About a decade ago, my mom and stepfather gifted us a copy of Hunstman's God So Loved the World, so I was initially hesitant to purchase Greater Love Hath No Man. With more research, though, I learned that the latter is not only a revision of the former but also an expansion, and I've found it to be well worth purchasing.
In this volume, not only do Huntsman & Hatch provide insights & readings related to Holy Week, but they go a step further and approach preludes and postludes to Christ's final week. This volume also includes several valuable items in the Appendix.
This volume greatly enhanced my preparations throughout the Easter season this year, and I will continue to come back to it and study more deeply.
Libby. Interesting book about the Savior and the Scriptures comparing the gospels about the different events of the Saviors life and all the additional research on the Savior and the translation of the different languages and what different words like betrayed or hand over same word. It makes you wonder about a lot of different scriptures and things. Listened to our prophets is the best way.
Beautiful artwork, scripture-filled. Inspiring ideas to elevate our celebration of the Holy Week and the Easter season. It’s a must-read for Christians, believers or anyone wanting to learn more about the final days of Jesus Christ’s mortal ministry and His divine mission as Savior of the world. Doctrinal truths taught and practical ways to celebrate with your families.
A beautiful book with great art and readings for the Easter or any season when you want to learn more about the Savior. I didn't read the total book, but most of it. I will make it a regular part of my Easter study.
Really great reference book for ideas to celebrate Easter. Had a lot of good doctrine and cultural explanations, and ideas for how people celebrate Easter season all around the world. Definitely not a light read.
For those of my faith who have (like me) Holy Week Envy, this is a great resource of both information about and ideas for marking the days leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
Transformed my personal and family practices in celebrating Easter and Holy Week. Loved the rooting in the scriptural text, as well as the devotional applications that keep the history, traditions and doctrine very much in mind while also stressing flexibility and applicability. This book will get pulled out every single Easter season for years to come, 100% - an easy 5 stars.
