An introduction to drawing and painting covers traditional monochrome and color media and offers tips on observation and interpretation of the subject.
Although it doesn't have an index or glossary, this is still a good overall course in learning to draw and paint. It has a good variety of mediums from pencils, pens, pastels to watercolours, oils and acrylics. As a compilation, it has a variety of styles, so that you get a more than one style of example.
Delivers on the title: it's definitely a practical course for drawing and painting. As someone who has taken only one art class beyond elementary school, and it was a semester high school course that didn't include acrylics or oils, this book is a fortunate library find. I'll probably check it out again in the future when I'm ready to tackle the oil tutorials. The internet has great resources to read on techniques or watch tutorials, but I find nothing replaces the depth of a good book.
