I won this book ARC, and it deserves more than 5 stars.

I picked up this book with a biasness that was not in its favor. I had predetermined opinions about urban fiction; yet Trina prevailed over every last one of them. I am forced to apologize and admit that I was wrong. I applaud Darrell Debrew for not using the stereotypes of this genre as a selling point. He took a more profound exploration into the legal system, as well as the mechanics of a serial killer, that allowed the reader to see both sides of the story. The author’s legal familiarity begs to compete with shows like Law and Order, CSI, Blue Bloods, and First 48. The unlikely source of comic relief was in the defense attorney.

Never since the movie “Set It Off”, had I cheered on the criminal. Trina was a very likeable character. Don’t get me wrong, Trina truly was a homicidal maniac that lacked moral fiber except between her brother. Not all her kills were justified; yet the execution was magnificent. She had misguided emotions due to her relationship with her mother and abandonment and misdirected via drugs, sex, and contracted killing. At the end of the day, she had to find peace within.

All the scenes were realistic, however larger than life in the composition of it all happening to one person, but that’s what makes the perfect action novel. This book was not predictable, thus holding my attention and keeping me in suspense. This book was a nonstop adrenaline rush. I would be an advocate for seeing this novel transition to the big screen as a motion picture. All I ask is that the director splurges on the budget. My favorite part is when Trina used a M16 with a M203 attached to take out one of her pursuers. Instead of the rifle, she used the grenade launcher to blow the vehicle sky high. (I’m an armorer and can appreciate that kind of stuff.) A B-rated move just wouldn’t do that scene justice.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly entertained.

Debrew had the courage to address the common and rarely written about issues with some mothers and their daughters; the disturbing reality of seemingly normal couples using the foster system for adverse reasons; a corrupt justice system; from hustling to avoid underlining issues; and the toxic concoction of the human being that comes as a result of it all.

Trina is an unexpected jewel among urban fiction thrillers. I encourage everyone to take this uncensored exploration into the mind and life of the Homicidal Hydro Killer, Trina!

I won this book from the GoodReads First Reads giveaway.

This book was about Trina, a trained hitman, who ends up getting arrested and ends up going to trial. That's the basic plot.

This was not a bad book. It started out with a lot of promise. It was like a breath of fresh air from some of the books I've been reading lately.

I'm kind of picky when it comes to reading. I'll give anything a try and I'll finish it if it's well written. But little things that are written that make me think "well that's impossible!" or "that is not very likely at all" can ruin a book for me or at least knock it down from "great" book status to "okay" book status. That was the case for this book. The first thing I had an issue with was the fact that Trina and her twin brother, Troy, were described as identical twins. It is impossible for a male and female to be identical twins. Also, I never understood who was younger and who was the older of the twins. One minute, Trina is calling herself Troy's big sister and the next, Troy is the big brother. A little bit more consistency would have been nice.

I also had a problem with the relationships between the characters. None of them felt real to me. Yes, this was just a book...but in order for me to enjoy it, I have to feel like the characters are reacting to things in a way that I feel their character should based on how the character is described.

Which leads me to descriptions. This is a personal preference for me and it may or may not apply to everyone. I would prefer to be given one detail (for example: She smirked) and be given the chance to draw my own conclusions about why. This book was not written in that style. This book tells you everything. (She smirked because she knew blah blah blah and so blah blah blah...)

Again. This was not a horrible book. I finished it if that says anything. Most of my issues with it was purely personal preferences in writing style. It started out with a lot of promise and then for me, fell flat because of my personal preferences. So anyone that doesn't share my preferences will probably really enjoy this book. I'd recommend that people at least give it a try.

Not Your Typical Serial Killer

Refusing to take anymore unwanted advances from her mother’s boyfriend, 15 year old Trina decides to take matters into her hands. After informing her mother of what had been going on, her mother flat out thinks her daughter is lying. Trina murders the boyfriend, setting off a deep hatred from her mother who promptly has her daughter locked up in Juvenile and takes her other child, Trina’s twin brother Troy and moves to South Carolina.

Trina and her brother Troy were very close and she misses him terribly. Once she leaves Juvenile she attempts to look for her mother and brother but there are no clues to where they could be. In the meantime Trina hooks up with a perverted well-to-do couple, a retired F.B.I. agent Patrick and his wife who like to walk on the sexual wild side. But the relationship soon becomes three is a crowd, and plans are made to outs the wife.

Thinking about her first kill is a turn on for Trina and with the training and mentor-ship from her lover agent Patrick, Trina becomes a professional hit woman whom manages to elude the authorities, that is until she comes face to face with her past!!

This is the second book I’ve read by author Darrell Debrew who titles all of his books after females.
A decent read although I was a little disappointed that the case was solved so early in the story, but I was kept on edge and enjoyed the scenes as characters who I thought would not be killed off were. I liked the character Trina and especially loved the court scenes with her lawyer Ms. Funky!!

I think this book is pretty. Thia girl named trina is basicaly a killer, its a certain way that she kills people then drops hydro ashes on the left side of their body. She became this way because her mothers boyfriend tried to rape her , so she killed him , she had nothing else t do. Then she went to juvinile , then a retired FBI agent too her in ad showed the ropes of things.

I won this book. I liked the premise of it, but it just didn't fly. It really needs editing for a start. Lots of editing. The other thing...I know it's fiction, but it was completely unbelievable. Actually, I didn't care much for the main character, either. But kudos to the author for the subject matter.
