Tragedy often strikes us without warning, like a lightning strike in a storm. For KD Wagner, a lightning bolt of devastation struck her as she drove a tractor trailer through a California mountain pass. Somebody murdered her eighteen-year-old son, Jeffrey. Instantly, her world reduced to the smoke and ashes of every parent’s worst nightmare. Wagner chronicles these events in this gut-wrenching narrative of loss, injustice, and finally, hope.
From her solo navigation of a dangerous mountain pass to the peaceful internment of Jeffrey’s ashes in a Hawaiian cove, Wagner invites the reader on her journey through loss to find a Different Place of life after. Along the way, she shares the tale of Jeffrey’s life cut short–his challenges, his gifts, his adventures.
The Injustice of Murder is a tribute to the human spirit and the love between a mother and son, a love that survives the cruelest of lightning strikes, the strike of death.

Kathy takes you thru the trials of a single mother of two. Her amazing resiliency to keep on in the every changing role of a mother who lost a child. Kathy's courage to reach out for support and to bring her story of courage to print; helping others to find their strength, courage, grit and resilience. This was relatable to, not the loss of a child - but my husband; also a Jeffrey. Loss is loss. Finding that Different Place, filled with great memories.
It’s every mother’s worst nightmare. I was able to connect with so much of the author’s story, being a single mom, no family support, kid with learning disabilities, and the hardships of raising kids. This could happen to anyone! The author does a wonderful job telling their story, showing how much love they had for each other and lets us get to know them on a deep level. It is definitely a book to expand our empathy and I look forward to the next 2 books.
Heart wrenching story of loss. Having lost my son, I understand her anguish, her sorrow her anger. A death she will not ever come to terms with. Very very sad
I’m so very sorry for your loss. This was a good tribute for your son Jeffery. I also have lost a child and I have also lost touch with family and friends.
