Harborside Secrets #3

The Two-Faced Killer

Rate this book
For private investigator Carlee Knight, staying alive is a deadly tightrope walk. She truly believes her quest for justice will lead to her beloved twin brother’s elusive killer—unless the killer catches her first.

Carlee’s dramatic homecoming to her once-sleepy hometown makes the harsh reality that much clearer. It’s not merely memories haunting Harborside anymore. For the first time since a mysterious serial killer butchered her eighth-grade class over a decade ago, a shadowy threat is hounding the town. Hounding Carlee, specifically, stalking her every move and creeping closer every night.

Its message is back off or die.

As she races to identify her stalker before they strike again, Carlee’s attention is pulled to a string of grisly murders in inner-city Chicago. Students of an elite beauty school are being found in deserted alleys, dressed in hideous clothes and posed for glamor shots—each with her throat slit.

The seedy trail of smeared lipstick and pooling blood drags Carlee into a dazzling subculture of runway divas, drugs, and posh queen-pins. A world in which every action is a statement and every look conceals a hidden truth.

Every second brings Carlee closer to answering her greatest is the Eighth-Grade Killer really coming for her, or is this all the work of a copycat?

The Two-Faced Killer is the third book of Katy Pierce’s unputdownable psychological thriller series, Harborside Secrets, where every choice carries secret consequences, and no one is safe from the villain’s knife.

I just finished the third book in this series, and I'm really loving the journey Carlee is taking to find the elusive 8th-Grade Killer who stole her brother from her all those years ago.  And while the culprit continues to play his twisted game of cat and mouse with Carlee, she doesn't let him stop her from solving yet another set of murders by a second serial killer.

With every book, I like Carlee Knight even more--her genuineness, sincerity, and just plain likableness are refreshing.  I've read too many books where our protagonist is frustratingly unlikable and therefore hard to relate to or root for! I'm tearing through this compelling series, and I honestly cannot start the next book quickly enough.

THE TWO-FACED KILLER is the third installment in the Harborside Secrets series by Katy Pierce. This is another well-written, page turning, and complicated mystery thriller that will keep you reading and guessing to the surprise ending.

In spite of her childhood trauma, Carlee has grown into an independent and determined woman who will do whatever she needs to do in order to get justice for her clients.  Carlee has no more tha recovered from her injuries received during her last case, than she's involved in a new case.

A young woman is found murdered using an MO from thirty years ago. Is this a copy cat kill or has the Two-Faced Killer returned? With help from a Chicago PD detective and an FBI Special Agent, Carlee is racing against time to find the killer before another body is found.

Don't forget, the 8th grade killer is still stalking her and has a ghastly present delivered to her door.

The story is thrilling, fast paced and the plot is very good. There are so many suspects and most of them are lying and some are very weird and messed up characters.  I really like the peeks we get into the stalkers mind.

I did receive a copy from the author and this is my honest and freely given review. And now, I'm looking forward to finding out what's waiting for Carlee.

The Two Faced killer is the third book in the series. It is so exciting to get back into the series. Memories of the loss she experienced when her twin brother when they were in 8th grade, murdered by the 8th grade killer. Now this killer is stalking Carlee leaving her notes to stop her investigation. She is trying to find the murderer of women being found with makeup caked on and their throat slit. Is this really the 8th Grade Killer, or a copycat. She has to solve this and find the killer of so many people, young to old.
This was a great book to read and very exciting to step back into the role of a reader trying to solve the puzzle along with Carlee.

I received this book as an ARC from the Author for an honest review.

Another serial killer known as the Two-Faced Killer back after 30 years? This case leads Carlee deep into the cosmetic world and narcotic universe. They were looking for the “queenpin of the drug trade in Chicago’s fashion and beauty industry.”

This one takes a little while to get into, but it was still interesting nonetheless. Still haunted by the 8th Grade Killer, Carlee muddles through to try to catch another killer. I like the way she thinks—so crafty and methodical. Still, this one wasn’t really the best and certainly took longer than it should have. It certainly gets better toward the end with the mysterious string of murders, but, yeah, this wasn’t that great. Truth be told: none of these books compare to that first one.

An okay read.

Great addition to the series and interesting read on its own. The beauty school and serial killer returning angle was unique and brought a new dimension to the overarching storyline of finding her brothers murderer. Carlee is fascinating and her relationships with the two law enforcement agents is entertaining and confusing. The story was an easy read and very developed with details and action. The killer was not surprising, but the reason was not quite expected. Can’t wait to see what happens next with her brothers killer as she tries to solve that case!

This book is best ever. Carlee messes up, oh my, the consequences! Two story lines, two threats to Carlee’s life. Slippery serial killer and eight grade killer?! Going after her. Interesting plot and rocky road to success (if any) lead to another cliffhanger. I would say hangover lol too. This fast paced thriller stole my sleep. Zach is deserving a big smack and Ian needs to go back to kindergarten to learn proper behavior lol.

This one for me was a slow burn but then got really going, so just something to watch out for. I am loving the different types of crimes that Katy is coming up with, they are a bit out there. Also the triangle between the three of them is getting really interesting.

As far the underlying backstory - it seems to be really heating up - this one left me with more questions, so cant wait for the next one.

I was given an advance copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.

Overall this was a good book but early on I thought I knew who the killer was so it was no surprise when the person had been revealed. Regardless, there were twists and it was still interesting to find out how Carlee figured it out. We also get to know a little more about the characters. Looking forward to the next installment. I am an ARC member and this is my honest review.

Who knew beauty school could be so cutthroat,  literally.
A serial killer is abducting beautiful people from the Aphrodite beauty school and dressing them up with horrible  clothes and makeup. Carlee convinces Zack to help her, sure that these 'copycat' murders must be related to the Eighth Grade Killer.
A thrilling mystery.

This is the third book in the Carlee Knight series. Set in Chicago, Carlee is being stalled by the eighth grade killer (first book in series) but is determined to continue her private detective job.
She is aided by a police detective and an FBI agent. (Sparks fly) This series is great and Katy is a queen of the cliff hanger!

Great writing. Kept me turning pages until I would fall asleep; then when I awoke I had to back up a couple pages to get restarted! I love the way Katy is tying The 8th Grade Killer into the current storyline. Usually I can’t figure out the villain until the very end but in this one I had it figured about 2/3 of the way through. Super ending though! Can’t wait for the next book!!

The Two Faced Killer

The Two Faced Killer was a very good book. It was scary from the first page and had me hooked from the first page. Who was killing these girls and turning them into garrish looking monsters. Is it the Eight Z grade Killer back to finish the job or another serial killer. This is a true mystery.

Beauty Killer

Carlee Knight will never forget the Eighth-Grade killer as he killed her twin brother along with others in her class. Along with trying to determine if the current murders are a copycat of the Eighth-Grade killer or the killer himself, Carlee is now trying to find the killer of beauty school students. Is the beauty school students killer the Two-Faced Killer from thirty years ago or a copycat?

Carlee is working along with Detective Zach and FBI agent Ian to find the Two-Faced Killer or copycat. There are misdirections and the killer is not found out until the end. The book is interesting and keeps you guessing who is the real killer.

During this book, Carlee is still being stalked. Will she find out who is stalking her? Is it the Eighth-Grade killer?

The ending leaves you with Carlee deciding to accept another challenging case. She also looks out her window to see a banner unfurl with a message for her. Is it from the Eighth-Grade killer?
