Gardening is not usually considered a blood sport, but whenever cartoonist Molly Masters is out in the yard she must contend with the harassing comments of her neighbor, Helen Raleigh, who once owned Molly's house. Then, after a particularly unpleasant confrontation, Helen is shot dead on Molly's property--and a shocking secret is revealed.
When Molly shoves her trowel into the dirt of the murder investigation, she starts receiving some threatening faxes--and realizes that one determined killer could quiet her questions forever. . . .
The plot was a bit too complex. An awful lot of outside drama crammed into one cul-de-sac of one subdivision. Several loose ends left questions unanswered. Some of the characters were simply odd ducks planted in the store for distraction. I liked the main character and her way of thinking, but found it difficult to follow the humor in her cartoons.
This book is crammed with quirky suburbia drama, with a never ending twist of events in a whole line up of characters. Somehow in this complex bit of humor was a mystery worth digging for and I just couldn't put it down. And even those of us who have become a pretty successful armchair sleuth, will have a bit of trouble keeping up with the twists in this one. Delicious.
I like these mysteries because they are light witty reading. I always have a smile on my face while I am reading. The characters are endearing in their every dayness and I can just imagine me or one of my friends getting into these predicaments. The cartoonist idea is genius as each situation can be portrayed from it's most bizarre angle as it springs into the mind of Molly. Great stuff -good read.
This is a cozy mystery series about a housewife who works at home as a greeting card writer. Akin to Jill Churchill 's Jane Jaffey, our protagonist, Molly Masters is always stumbling into a murder which she and her best friend solve. Funny, comforting, interesting, this series is perfect for a rainy weekend or just me time.
