Welcome to the City of Secrets & Sin When I ran away to New Orleans, I’d hoped that I was leaving my awful past behind me. I was wrong. My former captor has found me, and he’s threatening the town that I love if I don’t return to him. He wants me to use my power to kill for him, and he’ll destroy New Orleans if I refuse. Talan, the demon lord who is my mate, will stop at nothing to protect me. Together, we stand a chance--as long as I embrace the magic that has haunted me since the day I was born.
Kiss of Death is the final book in the Secrets & Sin trilogy. It's got enemies to lovers, fated mates, and a tortured hero who is absolutely obsessed with the heroine, but really doesn't want to be.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Three and a half This certainly pits Cora and Talen against awesome trials but sadly I didn’t particularly cheer for Cora as much as previously. I found her frankly a bit wet at times , full of doubts and just not as sassy and forthright as in the two preceding books. I definitely enjoyed the scenes with Fiona in them as she certainly made me smile and I’d love her to get her own story. Whilst unfortunately not my favourite by this imaginative author this was fast paced, with just enough romance and full of danger . I loved that so many came together to fight alongside Cora as that’s the kind of world we should all aim for. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
First off, I loved the conclusion to this series. Unfortunately I feel like we really hard to earn it. Cora spent way too long “not believing” she had value. It seemed to contradict what she was trying to do. If you care about your friends and know a super evil guy will use your death power to bring more evil into the world, why do you not do everything you can to fight him. I was frustrated with how many times she said, “I’ll give up and go to him” Really Cora?!?
I love the relationship between Cora and her friends and her hell cat. I loved how she choose to make NOLA her home and how she finally fought to stay there and have the life she wanted. The end had me tearing up and smiling at the same time. Once Cora embraced who she was and what she wanted, she did great things!
The love interest fell flat for me. She held him at arm’s length almost the whole book then at the last second said I love you? Sigh, I would have loved a better build up that led me to believing her when she said it. The way she pushed him away but he just took it made him seem like a softie, not a demon king.
All in id give the book 3.5 and the series a 4. You can feel more excitement in the writing of this book than the last few that Linsey wrote. I do wish for a power shift though. Why is the guy always rich and she’s super poor? I would love to see them be equal or for her to be wealthy and him not for once.
Enjoyed the story the series told. Felt like the last book went backward in the quality of writing. This feels like the writer got tired of the series and just wanted a quick way to wrap everything up. The world should have been explored more. Also why even include immortality if it's going to be fixed 50 pages later?!?

Told from Coras and Talons POV, the two main characters. The storyline is good but bogged down with Coras feelings for Talon. It really got old the whinning on about the reasons she couldnt be with him. What was confusing was it was Talon who pulled away first to protect his people and she was offended and hurt. The next thing Talon is pursuing and she is the one resisting. I couldnt avoid rolling my eyes and flicking through these parts of the story. Dont get me wrong the storyline is good but I just found it difficult to feel Coras emotions and the chemistry with Talon. She just became really annoying in this final book of the trilogy. Recommended.
I could not put this book down. I absolutely loved Cora and Talan. Cora’s growth throughout was perfect. She starts so closed off to everyone, which we know why, and she ends up accepting more people and seeing herself in a new light. And Talan, well he’s a hot demon who has his own growth. Loved this whole series!
Linsey hall did it again with this book! If you have already read the other two you really should read this one. It was a great ending to a will they won't they story. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This one didn't connect with me like the first two did. Maybe it's coming off reading a different book series where the editing was much tighter, but I just couldn't relate with Cora this book. I also didn't understand a solid chunk of what Her relationship with Talon also didn't really seem to be fleshed out well. Rather disappointed around book 3 tbh.
Who gets to say they resurrected their best friend twice? Cora, that's who. In this book we meet more manslaga & we learn where they came from. They track down Marek once. Then run from Marek. I have to say I was worried when Cora was struck by lightning that Marek had left a mark on her so he could track her. I am glad I was wrong! Cora keeps trying to sacrifice herself for everyone but the opposite happens. I love how her community embraces her immediately. Of course, this is all new to Cora who doesn't understand feelings or friends. Thank goodness for the ghosts without them they would have lost the fight at the end. New Orleans definitely has a lot of cemeteries.
Another solid five star read from Linsey Hall. This Secrets & Sin trilogy from Ms. Hall was a spectacular journey through New Orleans as seen through the eyes of Cora, the MC. Cora is a manslaga; a person who can kill with a touch of her hands. In this third book we discover there are many people with this gift/curse. Most are hunted by evil people who want to use their power for their own nefarious purposes. Cora was once the prisoner of such a man. Now he's back, having hunted her down, he demands she rejoin him or he will destroy New Orleans. With the help of Talan, the demon overlord of NOLA, several witches she's made friends with, some ghosts (since it is NOLA after all) and some fellow manslaga, she sets out to confront Marek (the bad guy) in an epic showdown that culminates in the climax of the story. There is so much more that happens during the story but you will need to read the trilogy to find out more. A solid 5 stars, since that's the most I can give. I loved this series.
I was surprised to find out that this is the last book in the series because I don’t like series to end. However, I dived in anyway to find out just how Cora and Talan was going to deal with the end of book two. Cora was bound and determined to avoid Talan, but we all know that wasn’t going to last. I loved the action in this series ender, the great interaction between the characters, and, speaking of characters, I’m hoping that one of the side characters (Fiona, I hope, first) will get their own story. This is a great book, and as always, I will miss it. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This book ends the Secrets and Sin series by Linsey Hall. What am great little series And it takes place in one of my favorite cities of all time New Orleans. Cora and Talon Are faded mates But Cora continuous to resist. Then her former boss comes back to claim her again and almost destroys New Orleans. The day is saved not only by Cora and Talen, but by all of her new found friends. Nice ending too but you'll have to read it to find out. I think Balthazar should get his own series.
I think this one was the best book in the series. Enjoyed meeting more BA women, including ghosts. Learning about the sanctuary. Seeing Cora & friends help each other. See the NOLA come together to protect and fight for their own alongside ghosts, "good" demons and bad demons. See Talon swallow his alpha-ness when Cora needs to lead. How he takes on her pain and helps protect her with the guardian charm. How he respects her boundaries. I didn't completely predict the ending. Cora leveled up for the battle but she lost her curse and could more happily stay with Talon. A decent HEA.
Thoughts: I'm not sure if the author got bored with this somewhere midway through book 2 or if this is just weird writing. The premise for the series was fantastic. In the first book, Cora meets a slew of characters and they all some something quirky and fun to bring. She's lived this life of isolation and she's finally starting to accept others. And then.... it just kind of hits this weird point where she accepts the girls but can't accept Talon... and the other people she's encountered previously really just lose any relavance. It led no where. The baddie in each book was just meh. I thought maybe this one would offer some more substance but it was so rushed and I felt so many missed opportunities. I was pretty much counting down until I would be finished with this series and that sucks :(
I don’t like bashing people’s art or writing just because it doesn’t match my own perception of what is “good”, so I’ll stick to the facts and keep it as diplomatic as possible.
This was a very fun concept for a series as well as a group of super cute characters, but the actual writing was weak and needed a much stronger editor to help it sound more professionally composed. Because of that, this book was not good, and the series itself was not good.
There was zero progress on the main romance between the two protagonists until 70% of the way through the final book. Prior to that, the entirety of their interactions are some form of “Uh oh we have to fight this bad guy together,” then Talan saying “But you’re my fated mate!” and Cora saying “I can’t deal with this” and Talan respectfully responding with some variation of, “Okay, that’s cool.”
I love the respectful waiting for consent, so that’s not a complaint. The issue for me is that there was no slow burn, or really any sense *at all* of anything beyond “the female protagonist is emotionally inept and chooses to avoid her issues”. She basically says this herself (in slightly different words) over and over again across the three books, and by the end of the series there was almost zero person growth that hadn’t already happened in the first book.
The reason I’m taking the time to write this out is because there’s a very cute earnestness to the way this author writes, and if she were able to connect with a *very* strict (and very good) editor, I think she could have a real knack for “cozy paranormal romance” as a niche. But, rather important details like the bookstore were almost completely ignored (I literally forgot which bookstore Cora was referring to at one point, because it had such a minuscule role in the series) and it could have been *such* an amazing hub for all the characters to gather and interact. A great editor would have caught that and made the suggestion. Also, who was her mom? Why did her mom own a bookstore in the first place? Why did her mom kill Fiona? There’s just no follow-up to, well, anything at all, really.
Anyhow, that’s my two cents. I don’t recommend this series, but I do recommend this author in about 5-10 years or once she hooks up with the next level writing teammates for her journey, whichever comes first.
This book concluded the series. It was pretty good, but not necessarily amazing. We don't ever find out where the magical staff came from nor how Merek got it. Yes, we know he researched Cora's magic, etc. It still doesn't explain how he found it. How was he able to wield it without having death magic? If the staff belonged to the goddess, how come it was the only thing that could kill her? If the goddess was immortal, how was she reincarnated into Cora? Those are just the questions that came to my mind.
I do appreciate that Cora and Talon didn't immediately fall into bed with each other. However, I also like my romance novels to be a little steamier than this series. I liked all Cora's friends. I loved the demon cat. I liked that this series had several different plots so that it wasn't just one plot going on forever. I do believe the series is worth reading and had entertainment value.
I'm glad the story stops here with a happy ending. There are a lot of actions in this last book and the whole town is involved to support Cora. I enjoy the romance elements, but it's very frustrating that the main characters keep denying the possibility of a romantic relationship with feeble reasonings. There are many small pieces to don't make sense or feel like fillers. For example, in the first book, it feels like Cora shouldn't need to be afraid of his owner anymore. It wasn't explained but I felt that it's possible for her previous boss to come and get her, she should have worried more about it. In this book, it suddenly becomes a huge issue. Also, her worries about her being immortal are annoying as she keeps bringing it up as the most difficult obstacle right after she learns about it.
Anyway, it's overall a good series to try out to get a sense of a world with magic and about friendship and love. I might consider reading other series by the same author.

Cora can’t seem to get a break from her old life and boss, he is a leach out for blood on a bad day. Therefore, Cora is forced to either hide or fight for her freedom from his imprisonment once again and maintain her position as a free woman. Talon her true mate, continues to fight alongside Cora and prove his loyalty to her. All the while her friends, Rei, Mia, Fiona and her cat Baltizar are always looking out for her and by her side whenever she needs them even if she doesn’t they’re there for her to bring her comfort and love. Cora has finally found the perfect place to call home. She has found friends who she can trust and love.
There is adventure and misbehavior going on in this story, twist and turns but the story has a very good flow to it. It is a very good read. I would recommend this book to anyone interested reading it who likes fantasy/fiction with a mix of magic in it. It makes for a very good read.
Cora's attempts to protect those who needed her seemed useless in the face of the threat that hung over her. Her constant rejection of Talan's advances and his need to protect her were not helping her. But the mystery surrounding Cora proved to be much more than what I was expecting. I liked how the suspense was escalating with Cora struggling with her helplessness against a dark and powerful evil. But that was until she began to discover her true potential. The manslagas and how they joined the conflict, made me emotional and I even shed a tear while I was reading. Loved those scenes. A strong battle that changed many things. I love these stories with difficult situations and strong emotions that make me immerse myself in the action and feel with the protagonists. A great ending to Cora and Talan's story! I voluntarily reviewed this interesting and entertaining story.
Cora's old master finds her in New Orleans and lights her up with some kind of unknown magic then disappears. Cora, Fiona, Talan and the rest of her friends set off to figure out first Cora's new powers and then how to get to Karen and take back what belongs to Cora. Things are sketchy at best but, Cora and Talan work together and pick up a few allies along the way. Can Cora get rid of Marks before he kills those she cares about and others in her beloved new hometown?
Thank goodness for this final book. I was sucked in from the very first words. I love everything by this inkslinger and this was no exception. This was a great series among many greats by her. Excited to read where her mind takes us next! I highly recommend this book, series and all this inkslinger's other books and series!
Cora is still determined to avoid Talan but when the city is attacked by her old boss, they will work together to stop him. Together with her friends, they go find answers to from someone Cora knows. Cora was not prepared to hear what she was told; they must stop him. Cora keeps fighting what she is feeling for Talan, but she can only fight it for so long.
This was a rollercoaster ride as this was the final book in a series I didn't want to end. The chemistry between Cora and Talan is amazing. You will love the world, characters, and plot as you are pulled into the book. The outside world will disappear as you read this book as turn the pages to see what will happen next. I recommend this book and series to everyone.
The story was satisfactory, but you almost want to rush it to end… the romance was weak and overall anticlimactic which has knocked an additional star for me. If you’re going to dangle a powerful mating in readers faces then eventually you have to give us what we want. It wasn’t even a slow burn really - just nothing and then suddenly at the end they were together. I like my heroine to eventually accept that she’s a bad b*tch - at some point in book 2 it’d have been great for her to lose the self-pitying inner dialogue. There were so many missed opportunities - they had the potential to be a real power couple in this world and ultimately… I’m left feeling underwhelmed.
Cora and Talan’s story comes to an explosive finale in this book, as Cora goes face to face with the man who once owned her, and discovers the secrets of her heritage.
This is a very fast paced, and action filled story, which has Talan and Cora running all over the world, and she seeks out the knowledge she needs to save New Orleans and herself. We see battles, magics, romance, and some epic and quite satisfactory takedowns. Star of the book award definitely goes to Balthazar the shadow cat, who is very amusing always, and especially so in this book. An engaging and thrilling finish to this trilogy, which is a must read for Hall fans, and an enjoyable journey for urban fantasy lovers.
I chose this rating because honestly it really didn't make any sense to.me! Seriously suddenly she's mortal and Talen is a demon whose supposed to be immortal? Please you can't convince me he's mortal too???
Losing all their DEATH MAGIC ( just about) ! This series started out pretty good, then this last book everything went in the tank at the Middle of the book! The ending was not ok, I was a little upset the way it panned out. I felt this book was not what I expected. Know its super hard to write, I'd rather wait for a book and the author take all the time they need to put out a book .So basically she (Cora)has nothing in the way of magic ,supposed to be a godess, butttttt Talen her mate has magic???????
Linsey Hall's Secrets & Sin trilogy is just what the BookStore Doctor ordered! Cora, of hidden magical talents, is now the not-so-proud-owner of her deceased, unbelievably horrible mother's bookstore, sans electricity, but flush with dust and the undead - but still, the ex-assassin has escaped (for now) her old life and New Orleans looks like the perfect place for new beginnings. One small problem ... she's in Talan, the Demon Lord's territory, and he expects her to submit to his authority ... annnnnnnd that's where the $#!t starts hitting the fan in The Big Easy. This series is a Weekend Reading Warrior's delight!
Since the end of the Shadow Guild series, I have been hoping for more of the "connected" trilogies/quartets that Lindsey Hall is famous for. The Court of Starlight and Darkness had great potential, but she stopped after the first three. The Rebel Wolf series ended after only two books with zero spinoffs again. And now, I have really enjoyed this trilogy about Cora and her friends and I hope to see this fleshed out into more stories about Mia, Fiona and Rei but I am probably going to be disappointed again. Still, good series but I won't get my hopes up for a spinoff.
An Admiral Conclusion to the Secrets & Sins Trilogy - But Wait There's More
In typical Linsey Hall fashion, while a storyline may have 3 to 5 books to make a series, the characters do not end with the end of their series. She hints at additional story lines that will no doubt come from some of the myriad of characters we've met in this trilogy. In fact, there are so many unique , varied and interesting characters there may well be a good 25 more books to come from this Demon Lord managed section of New Orleans. Time will tell....
I throughly enjoyed this series! I felt for some quick reading it was fabulous. I enjoyed the atmosphere created, the universe explored and the characters. The only downside being I felt the ending was more rushed than I would have liked. There was very little explanation of the final fight and the picture wasn’t painted as it normally had been throughout the series. I loved the fact they go their happy ending but would have liked to know more. Aside from that a fabulous series for some quick reading!

Excellent paranormal story with witches. demons, ghosts, & fighting evil. Talan protects the part of New Orleans for the supernatural demons that want to live like humans. Cora comes to town unannounced & he doesn’t like it. They clash but have to work together to save their magical city. I absolutely enjoyed the magic, the characters were entertaining & exciting. I received a complimentary of the book & chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms Hall.
