“I’m right here.”

TIFF

Macallan Astor is a self-entitled manwh*re with little to no consideration for the fact he lives with three other people. I've been at the house in LA that's supposed to be my fresh start for two months now and at this point… I'm about one Victoria's Secret model screaming in the pool at night away from chucking him right into the Pacific.

But the cost of my fresh start is high so when he comes to me with a solution that can solve all my problems… There’s really no way I can say no.

And if my answer just so happens to have a little something to do with the chink in his armor that’s tugging at me, all the better.

Because maybe helping him is exactly the kind of brave I want to be.

MAC

Tiffany Monroe, more commonly referred to as the she-devil in my head, has to be the most polite version of a f*ck off I've ever received in my life. She’s been silently condemning me with those judgy eyes of hers ever since we first met. But when the nightmare that is my father threatens to cut me off unless I comply with his demands… I’m left with only one way out.

The girl who hates me.

Because who better to strike a deal with than the one person who is moral enough to not ask for more at the end?

I've always been good at putting on a show.

Let’s just hope I can keep this one up for long enough that she doesn’t notice I’m sinking in so many ways.

And falling a little more day by day.

R. Phillips loves to write romance stories full of angst, plot twists and a generous sprinkling of salacious scenes. Playing with timelines is one of her favorite things to do in her writing along with including a dash of mythology. She’s also a big fan of leaving your jaw on the floor.

Rachael is a native Texan, reader first, and frequently imagines her book scenes to songs. She is a lover of coffee, tex-mex, and is probably too particular when it comes to her choice in red wine. She credits any success to the long line of strong women she comes from who gave her a steely spine, taught her to know her mind, and to always rise.

Gosh I loved re entering this world so much!!

A twisted tale serjes is one of my favourites of ALL time and as soon as I started this book I got all the feels again.

🚨I would definitely say you NEED to read to read a twisted tale series first, but major spoilers for that one in this book.🚨

Here are the tropes:
✨Fake Engagement
✨Enemies…more like dislike….to lovers
✨a reformed playboy turned cinnamon role MMC
✨no third act break up

I always knew Mac would be a fun and wild ride with his cameos from ATT series & that he was hehe.

When Mac and Tiff meet for the first time they are both struggling with some childhood trauma and Tiff is coming out of a bad abusive relationship. Tiff automatically decides that she doesn’t like Mac…and Tiff’s dislike of Mac bothers him and he can’t fully process why…..

Until Mac needs a fake fiancé and Tiff is the perfect woman for the role..job.. ya know.

This one was a slow simmer, but I loved the build of this relationship. How they slowly were able to lean on eachother, and strengthen eachother, and build this friendship that was ready to explode.

And when it exploded…it was hot af. The spice was NOT lacking in this one😏

Also all the lil things that Mac did for Tiff…without even wanting anything in return….the pb&j sandwiches😭

A few other thoughts:
🫶🏼Every mention of Jace, El and Coop brought me RIGHT back to ATT and all the feelings.
🫶🏼LOVED ALEC and I need him to have a story……..
🫶🏼I am so interested in Stef & Kai’s stories.. the lil hints.. OMG..has me so excited for their stories
🫶🏼the fateless saga mention!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely loved re-entering this world! I missed these characters so much.

This story leaves off where we ended in the Twisted Tale series. Although this is a standalone, I recommend reading that trilogy first or you’ll learn of some spoilers for it in this new book.

Our two MC’s are wildly different. Tiff is a sweetheart who’s trying to get back on her feet after experiencing some trauma. Mac is our cinnamon role book boyfriend who is carefree, fun and grade A player.

Although these main characters are complete opposites, they’ve both experienced a lifetime of trauma and form a beautiful relationship. This is a heavier read that deals with topics such as physical and emotional abuse. Most importantly, this book shares a message of breaking the cycle of generational abuse.

I loved Mac and Tiffs relationship. It was playful and sexy. Mac loved spoiling his girl and it’s the micro trope I live for.

Lastly I’ll touch on the spice because holy hell it was HOT. Tiffany was very inexperienced and Mac completely onboard with teaching her. The mouth on this man! Top tier the smut.

Book Tropes:
• Fake Dating
• Cinnamon Role MMC
• Dislike to Lovers
• Reformed Playboy
• No third act breakup

This is such a beautiful story with character growth, healing and love. R Phillips always writes stories that are captivating, sexy and touching. I can’t wait to continue in this series!

Mac & Tiff are absolutely everything!!!

Not only is this is a story about frenemies to lovers, but it’s also a story about something much deeper, more personal. Both Mac and Tiff help each other over come their past traumas in such a beautiful way, strengthening not only their romantic relationship but their friendship as well.

this was one of my most highly anticipated books of the year! mac and tiff’s story was everything i’d knew it be and more. being transported back into the world of these characters was so comforting. they feel like lifelong friends and reading about them all felt so special.

ok, so it’s safe to say that i’m in love with every fictional man that rachel has ever written and will ever write. mac was just 🤌🏼🤌🏼 he’s sexy, confident, charming, funny (i laughed out loud several times at the things he said and did), the way he took care of his girl..ugh, i was a puddle on the floor for him. and that epilogue! i smiled through the entire thing 🩷

“because he's everything. so much more than the princes i’d dreamed about as a little girl…and a good bit dirtier too. he’s everything mine should be.”

i loved watching tiff and mac’s relationship evolve. they go from disliking one another, to forming a friendship over the unfortunate circumstances that they find themselves in, to falling in love. i loved that it wasn’t an instant thing, although their physical attraction was apparent from the start, they truly got to know one another and formed an unbreakable bond that was so beautiful to read.

“she’s the best thing i never expected to happen to me.”

“𝑰’𝒎 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆”

Mac & Tiff are exactly what we needed after Fractured.

I can’t picture anyone more perfect for each other than these two imperfectly perfect people. They showed each other that they are enough just the way they are through their words, actions, and chemistry - because they had damn good spice. They were truly each others other half and what they both needed to overcome their past and conquer their future.

“𝑺𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒚𝒃𝒆 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒎𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒚.”

Tiffany Monroe is special special girl. What Rachael did with her was perfection - genius - powerful and I’d by lying if I said I wasn’t a crying mess (IYKYK)🥹. She was destined for something big and I loved seeing her grow and get her fresh start.

Macallan Astor needs to be protected at all costs. This sweet sweet gem of a man. My heart broke when he talked about his past and seeing him struggle at times was hard to read but like Tiff, he fought hard to break from the past and I loved seeing it happen.

𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒚, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚, 𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒌𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒇 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒘. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅. 𝑱𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒔.

Once again @rphillipswrites captures you with her words and gives you a story you won’t forget. You feel her love for these characters and this story flow through the pages not only in Mac & Tiff but in every character that’s part of their little family.

🚨Revel is out now and is part of a new series! I HIGHLY recommend reading A Twisted Tale (Entangled, Bound, and Fractured) first because there are spoilers. ‼️

“𝑺𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒎𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆”

Rachael thank you so much for this ARC and adorable PR package 😍

Revel by R. Phillips

“My life didn’t fall apart, it fell together. It fell together and I fell for you.”

The moment I met Mac and Tiff in R’s A Twisted Tale series I had no doubt in my mind I’d love them in Revel. Book one in her spinoff series Mortals at Play, Revel picks up not long after Fractured (A Twisted Tale book 3) concludes. While it is an interconnected standalone series, and you (technically) don’t have to read A Twisted Tale first, I highly recommend that you do, otherwise you’re really doing yourself a disservice. So, pause here, do that, and Mac and Tiff will see you soon.

R is a master crafter at creating unique multifaceted characters. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, her characters are like no other. Easy to love, hard to forget, and pull the empath out of me like an exorcist.

Tiff and Mac have not had it easy. Their experiences are toxic, tough, and tragic; only the bravest could prevail with the strength that Mac and Tiff radiate. Their zest for life, passion, and loving nature brings out the best in each other.

As I watched their love unfold and character and develop, I fell harder for the pair. Ultimately, in R. Phillips fashion, she pulled my heart from my chest, squeezed it until there was nothing left, and has me desperate for the next book in the series.

Just read it.

Full review to come when I can gather my thoughts and dry my tears. But for now MASTERPIECE Mac has become my new favorite. ♥️

✨BOOK REVIEW✨
Title: Revel
Release date: August 1 2023
Rating: 5 ⭐️
Spice: 3🌶️
Trope: Fake Fiancé, he falls first

My heart is so happy and so full after reading Mac and Tiffs story, I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Revel and I can honestly say I loved every minute of it.

I was crying the minute I read the authors note, I didn’t think that a book could touch my soul the way this one did. I relate so much to Tiffany some parts were hard to read, but it was exactly what I needed.

This book follows Tiff on her journey to finding herself after an abusive relationship, all the way from Landing Point Alabama to LA to live with the boys Kai, Mac and Stef. Her and Mac can’t stand one another mainly because Mac is an entitled manwhore who likes to parade women all over the house without a care in the world.
Until Mac needs her help,he makes her an offer she can’t refuse. Tiffany the perfect girl to solve all of Macs problems he just has to convince her to be his fiancé for a little while… what’s the worst that could happen? Though she has her own trauma to work through and secrets she’s trying to keep hidden..

Mac is probably my new favorite book boyfriend I absolutely love his filthy mouth and his growth in this story. The way he faces his trauma with/for her just makes my heart so happy.
I love Tiffs character in this story so much how she finally finds her voice and stands up for herself after all she’s been through.

With that being said if you love a good fake fiancé, he falls first, type of spicy romance this is the one for you.

Rachael, thank you for writing this masterpiece I knew I would love Mac and Tiffs story, as always I can not wait for the next book, you have become one of my favorite Authors and I will always hold Revel close to my heart, it’s everything I didn’t know I needed in a book. 🖤

PLUS those little bombs you were dropping have me on the edge of my seat dying for the next few books 😅😭

“𝙎𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙮𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙮.”

I knew I would love this book.. but I somehow loved it more than I imagined I would. Being reunited with these characters felt like coming home. I love them all individually and together. And seeing them from another POV gave me so much more insight to who they are.

Tiff's growth and her strength was empowering. Getting a clearer look inside her past and seeing who she has become in spite of it made me so proud. I loved watching her find her voice.

Mac stole my heart, slowly, then all at once. I hate his past for him, but I love who he became. He doesn't even realize it, but he cares so much, and all the little things he does- well, they're everything. He truly is SO GOOD.

Together these two are perfect for each other. Despite the fact that they don't like the word. Truly made for one another. They were exactly what each other needed, when they needed it, and when they didn't even know they needed it. These are two people with demons in their past, never shown healthy love.. but so deserving of it. And experiencing them find it with one another was beautiful.

“𝙈𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩, 𝙞𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧. 𝙄𝙩 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪.”

Rachael, as always, poured her heart into these characters- but I especially felt it with Tiff. Reading Revel felt so special. And seeing what she gave her, knowing how it ties into something so much bigger, it was genius and heartfelt.. and it hit me like a wrecking ball of emotions.

Also.. the spice 🤌🏼🫠😮‍💨 perfection.

I did not expect to cry in this one, but overall the tears were happy ones. I finished Revel with the biggest smile on my face. So at peace with where they are. And so excited for what's to come. (Like that thing I called happening - go make it happen, Rach😘)

“𝘽𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙚. 𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙖𝙮, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙮.”

‼️Revel is a new series but should be read AFTER A Twisted Tale to avoid spoilers for that series‼️

i actually don't have to say anything about this book.

by now, everyone probably knows i love rachael's books.

do i love this book? i do.
it had me from the start? it did.
do i want to reread it? yes, i do.

tiff and mac were amazing, and no matter how tragic their lives were, when they came together, it was just fate. reading about them was incredible, and i wanted to know more about mac since i first met him.

if you haven't read rachael's books, you need to. you don't know what you're missing out on.

FIRST: If you have not read the series A Twisted Tale, you NEED to first. If not, you'll ruin things for yourself. This story begins where the last book ended.

"For everyone who has ever stood up to their monsters. For anyone still working up the courage to"

I knew I was going to love this book. I loved Mac so much when we got to see him in A Twisted Tale series and I was ecstatic to know he got his own book. Mac is your typical playboy, living the high life in Los Angeles. Tiffany is your small, town girl who moved to the city to get a fresh start. Do they already know each other or are they strangers? If you read the series first, you'll get both of their background information.

"You may be a dick, but I think you might be good too, Macallan."

I loved their love. I truly believe dark attracts dark just like light attracts light. Mac and Tiff's darkness pulled each other in with a force they couldn't resist and it was the best thing to witness. Their push and pull was delicious.

"She deserves so much better than me. She deserves everything. She's the miraculous thing"

I also wanted to mention that R. Phillips knows how to write a man. My gah. How am I falling in love with all of them?! Counting down to the next book boyfriend she releases....

R. Phillips’ writing is absolutely gorgeous and I’ll read anything she writes.

Mac & Tiff have both been through it. After she moves to LA, they realize off the bat that they actually hate each other. But when Mac needs access to his trust, he knows just the person to fake marry: Tiff.

Hate to love and fake engagement/dating are two of my fav tropes! And this was done so well. Mac falls first and he falls HARD (and buys her a car and a laptop to boot).

There’s some angst, a whole lot of emotions, and I enjoyed being back in this world so much.

• 5/5 ⭐ • 2.5/5 🌶️ •

t r o p e s :
• fake relationship/marriage of convenience
• frenemies to lovers
• he falls first
• reformed playboy

First thing's first - did A Twisted Tale leave you brokenhearted & unhinged? Because same 🙋🏽‍♀️🫠
And Jace… I pull a deep breath in as he suddenly fills my mind, heart folding in on itself with a spasming sense at the reality that he’s really gone. Just ashes in the waves that we’d spread a week ago now.
• my absolute favorite thing about Revel was R. Phillips's author note. I'm so glad it was at the beginning of the book, because it stayed in the back of my head the entire time I was reading, and it made me love & appreciate these characters so much more.
"And for me…I never saw it coming. Never thought I’d allow someone to treat me that way. I should’ve though, because the truth is I’d been allowing it for my whole life really. Desperate for love and approval.
• Not only were Tiff & Mac the epitome of frenemies to lovers, but their characters also matured & developed so much. My heart was so full for them 😭 and their epilogue? *chef's kiss* 🤌🏽
• The bond that Mac, Kai & Stef share is SO WHOLESOME 😭 and the fact that they so naturally extended this bond to Tiff when she needed help? *swoons*
• I was ✨elated✨ over El & Coop's cameo! Also, I LOVE ALEX 🥹

p.s.... please don't make me wait for the bombs that are Kai & Stef's stories to drop & explode & demolish the tiiiiny semblance of peace I've found after mourning Jace for so long 👁️👁️

Revel by R. Phillips 💍🖤

“Because he's everything. So much more than the princes I’d dreamed about as a little girl…and a good bit dirtier too. He’s everything mine should be.”

thank you so much @rphillipsauthor for the arc, being part of your street team is amazing & I am extremely grateful!

Revel is Book #1 in the spin-off series of Rachael’s “A Twisted Tale” trilogy. I recommend reading this series first!

Swipe for the plot ➡️➡️➡️

I am so obsessed with Mac and Tiffs love story. I am a lover of the reformed playboy trope, and even though Mac had his bad boy edge, he still had a golden heart. He was extremely charming and wanted everything for Tiff from the instant he met her. His love for his found family was beautiful to witness. Tiff, on the other hand, was sweet but fierce, and they were literally each others perfect match.

The tropes were *chefs kiss*, frenemies to lovers & fake dating ?? YES 🙌 also seeing Els and Coop pop up multiple times made my heart so happy.

Revel is perfect for lovers of:
🖤 fake dating / engagement
🖤 frenemies to lovers
🖤 multiple pov
🖤 spicy scenes
🖤 forced proximity
🖤 he falls first
🖤 no 3rd act breakup!!!

Overall, this book was amazing and I really enjoyed it. Please please please go check out R. Phillips books if you haven’t already, ‘A Twisted Tale’ has a special place in my heart and seeing all of the characters I fell in love with getting their own books in the spin-off is everything I could’ve asked for and more.

“My life didn’t fall apart, it fell together. It fell together and I fell for you.”

Mac & Tiff. Two characters I didn’t see ever getting along, much less getting their own story.

I knew after I finished the A Twisted Tale series that I had to read Revel (and anything that comes there after, if I’m being honest). I adored Mac & Tiff in those stories and I’m so so glad they got their own book.

Mac & Tiff are both broken in their own ways—some similarities, some differences. Neither of them cared for the other when they first met but boy do they work together. I loved their banter from the very beginning.

I also loved seeing all of the other characters we met in the A Twisted Tale series.

The A Twisted Tale series is definitely something you need to read before starting Revel because it gives a lot of the backstory but you’ll get so much more character development in Mac & Tiffany in Revel.

5⭐️! I loved Twisted Tale and this spin off series is one of my most highly anticipated reads! And it did not disappoint. This read felt like a warm hug after all the highs and lows from the Twisted Tale series. I loved the enemies to lovers, forced proximity, marriage of convenience and cinnamon roll male lead tropes. The character development was phenomenal and sensitive topics were addressed with care.

There might be some triggers so make sure to look them up before proceeding e.g. domestic abuse

I can’t wait for Kai’s and Hannah’s story - I know it’s going to be amazing!

The author redeemed herself with this spin off from her last series.

Fake engagement trope (love it) with the quiet girl and the party boy.

Turns out he’s a softy and will go through hell and high water for her. Swoon.

So happy that the ending didn’t include a miscommunication trope also. Well done 😅

If you have talked to me about books, then chances are I’ve probably told you no less than a thousand times that you need to read the Twisted Tale series by R Phillips. I am obsessed with that trilogy, so a spin off series with side characters made me so happy!!

Macallan and Tiffany are frenemies to lovers and their story gave me so many butterflies. The maturity and character development that they gained throughout the course of their story was incredible.

When Mac needs a fake fiancée, he voluntells Tiff for the role! What they didn’t expect to happen during their fake engagement was that they would help each other through their past traumas as well 🥺 all the sweet little things Mac did for Tiff were so freaking wholesome and warmed my soul to its core!!!! THE PB&J SANDWICHES 🥹💜😩 basically I’m obsessed with them and I need everyone to fall in love with them with me 🥰

This book was cute and I loved every character except yk her mother and his father. Although the author did an amazing job at portraying these characters to be evil and spiteful. We don’t get actual on page scenes of her mother but the descriptions of her said enough.

I loved getting more of Rachael's words. Her writing is so lyrically beautiful. The way she is tying everything in together makes me really excited for everything that's to come!  And I adored Mac and Tiff. I knew these LA boys would be special and this book did not disappoint. HOWEVER, there were a few moments that had me rereading pages because things just didn't make sense to me. For me that took away from the story because I found myself constantly looking for those moments to pop back up. I loved that Mac and Tiff were able to overcome their hurt and grief together and see each other. Their banter was everything I need in a book. The way Mac Daddy took care of her from the little things to the big things, made my heart all twitterpated. I loved the way the LA boys took Tiff in as one of their own. Her and Kais friendship just warmed my heart and makes me soooo excited for his book!!

Mortals at Play Book #1

Tropes:
He Falls First
Cinnamon Roll MMC
Reformed Playb0y
Fake Relationship

TW: Heavy on abuse so be aware of this before starting! Also, major ATT spoilers at the beginning of Revel so I highly recommend reading Entangled, Bound, and Fractured first!

I sometimes find it hard to highlight a lot in books. I have to be drawn to the writing, drawn to the characters, and drawn to their story…Rachael NEVER fails me! When I tell you I had 10 highlights in the Prologue alone, I am not even kidding. I also had multiple highlights in the Author’s Note, Dedication, and Epigraph!

Tiff and Mac’s story was just so gravitating to say the least! Their journey was so raw and worth the read!

"𝕄𝕪 𝕝𝕚𝕗𝕖 𝕕𝕚𝕕𝕟'𝕥 𝕗𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕒𝕡𝕒𝕣𝕥. 𝕀𝕥 𝕗𝕖𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕠𝕘𝕖𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣. 𝕀𝕥 𝕗𝕖𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕠𝕘𝕖𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕀 𝕗𝕖𝕝𝕝 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦."

To begin, Tiff absolutely could not stand Mac, but Mac was so puzzled at why Tiff didn’t seem to care about him like other women did… *𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮...𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺* LOL
Eventually, Tiff does of course find him to be tolerable.𝘈𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵, 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘭 𝘓𝘖𝘓.
Soon after, they bond over the fact that they both have lived a traumatic past. When they figure out that a fake relationship could very well help them get to the next chapter of a better life, they take advantage of it!
From there, the pull just grows into something neither of them could deny. And the spice is GIVING along the way!

"𝗜'𝗺 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲."

Mac is the most cinnamon flavored roll that there is! I loved all the little things he did for Tiff. He was so thoughtful and just awe-worthy. I loved his character growth so much!

“𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲, 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝. 𝐒𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐰. 𝐒𝐡𝐞'𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭.”

Tiff was absolutely relatable and quite hilarious. "𝙰𝚒𝚗'𝚝 𝚗𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝚊 𝚌𝚑𝚒𝚌𝚔𝚎𝚗 𝚠𝚒𝚗𝚐."
She’s probably going down as my favorite FMC as of now! Her character growth was also just as giving as Mac. Together, they complimented the other in all the best ways.

-Revel was the warm hug I needed after Fractured. I enjoyed all the little Jace snippets SO much, and the mention of the Fateless Saga had me all pouty lipped. (I AM SO READY FOR IT…if you can’t tell, I am a Jace girl through and through)
-The third act breakup…..was NONEXISTENT. Hear me loud and clear when I say, look no further! Mac and Tiff’s story is where the third act break is pleasantly 𝘯𝘰𝘵 at. 😛 Woohoo! I’ve been needing a nice break from those. Lol!
-El and Coop cameos - chefs kiss! Loved seeing them make an appearance.
-Kai…Hannah…stepsister…angst…say no more. I need his story asap! I seriously cannot wait!
-Alec…he is still such an intriguing character to me. Rachael does such an awesome job letting all of her side characters shine to the point you long to know more about each of them too! I hope his story will be told one day!

Thank you Rachael, for yet another heartstopping poetic story to fall in love with! Your work will forever be treasured by me along with so many others! I cannot wait for what’s to come! - Kimbers_library

***SPOILERS AHEAD FOR TWISTED TALE-- Entangled/Bound/Fractured***

Ahhh, to be back in the Twisted Tale world... swoon!

4 stars for Mac and Tiff's story.

"Because she makes me want to believe it too... that maybe even if Tramp is a little bit broken and Lady is a little too good for him, there's still some happy ending to be found. She makes me believe that."

I loved this in a different way than Twisted Tale. El, Coop and Jace seriously CONSUMED me in Rachael's debut series-- catapulting those books to the top of my reads of all time. They were angsty, emotional, devastating- all of my very favorite things.

Rachael told us when she began working on the spinoff series that this would be the more "fun" series- the books she is going to just enjoy writing and have a blast with. And that is exactly what I thought of Mac and Tiff! They were fun in the best way. If El and Coop were dark poetry, haunted pasts, fated loves, total heartbreak-- Mac and Tiff were strawberries, Lady and the Tramp, and new beginnings.

Both Mac and Tiff are working through trauma. The mental health rep in this book is real. But it didn't feel to me to have the same oppressive weight I am used to- in contrast, almost everything in this book felt a little sunshiney. I think this was the point of it-- this is a very happy, very positive relationship, one with a lot of innocence on Tiff's side, and even though Mac is a damaged f*ckboy, he falls first and hard, and generally came across to me as trustworthy and amazing.

Rachael's writing is always wonderful, and man do I love how she writes Mac. This was my favorite side of Mac- when his head is spinning out of control, where he is realizing that for the first time, maybe he has met the girl who will finally do him in. When he tries so, so hard to hold himself back from doing everything he wants with Tiff, but can't help resisting.

"I want to do every depraved thing that's ever crossed my mind to her. I want to ravage her and wreck her and make her beg for every f*cking minute of it. I want to sink so deep into her that maybe some of the goodness inside of her reaches me. I want to live inside of her until there's never another second of her life that she doesn't feel me in there and think about me. I want to fill her body and whisper into her mind until she knows that nothing will ever be better than me."

Overall, I tend to much prefer a deeper, more emotionally destructive story, and that is why my rating is 4 stars instead of 5. Let me be clear that this has to do with my personal preferences and not a reflection on this love story! I could not pass this up because Rachael is one of my very favorite writers! I think Mac and Tiff are a good blend of hot and cute- if you like romances, you are bound to enjoy this one.

I am looking forward to Kai and Hannah's story-- the snippets of their explosive fallout I did glimpse in "Revel" made me so excited to find out more about them!

Beautiful

Tiffany and Mac are characters who were featured in a book trilogy that centered on El, Jace and Cooper. While this book is a stand alone, it is interconnected and spoilers for the previous series are in it, so I would suggest started with Entangled first in order to avoid them. It's an angsty love triangle of epic proportions.

And now that we have that out the way.
This book pics up pretty much immediately after the other series ends. Tiffany is recovering from horrific events that included her abusive and cold mother being revealed as a cold blooded killer of several people. She's left her abusive boyfriend and small hometown behind to live with three men who are essentially a found family version of brothers to El, who is now her friend and sister in law. That may sound convoluted but it's not too complicated lol

Anyway she's starting over in sunny Los Angeles in a fancy bachelor pad mansion and while she gets along just fine with Stef and Kai, Mac rubs her the wrong way. He's a manwhore, he's obnoxious and he basically drives her nuts. But when Mac's father tries to use his trust fund to control and oppress Mac, Mac comes up with a plan to subvert him by marrying Tiff in a marriage of convenience to last only one year.

And from there our story unfolds.

Thoughts on various things-

The impact of extreme abuse on these two characters was touching and heart wrenching. The damage was so sad... my heart ached for Mac.

The spicy scenes were *chefs kiss*.

I know this sounds crazy but hear me out: I would love to see Tiffany's book about Jace's potential life had he lived published. It would be a completely unique type of romance novel... picking up where he wakes from the coma instead of dies and we watch him fall for someone, go through his paces and eventually get a happily ever after... perhaps it ends with us finding out it's all real...just happening in the afterlife or in another life, granted by fate. Please, please, pretty please, make that happen. Don't force me to write bad Fan fiction about this character. I'm not that great of a writer lol

It looks like based on the amount of time spent focusing on Kai and Hannah, a spin off centering them is on its way. Can't wait. However I really cannot wait for one centering Alec. Alec is such a complex, dark, powerful yet fragile character. I want to see someone crack his shell and release the humanity that he doesn't know he has yet.

I hope that in future books we get to see these characters again and again. I'm becoming more and more attached to them. Wells especially. There is something ruggedly charming and loveable about him.

And that's all. My thoughts. Beautifully done. Looking forward to more.

“It’s incredibly hard,” I start softly, not looking away from the screen. “To need the love of the very people incapable of giving it to you, the ones you can never quite hate as desperately as you want to.”

Revel is the first book in the Mortals at Play series, a spin-off of the A Twisted Tale Trilogy. I would definitely recommend reading ATT first, as there are several spoilers in Revel.

“It all has a source, Macallan,” he answers sharply. “What if without that source you can be the one to give her the unicorns and magic and bullshit? What if you can be happy with her?”

Macallan (Mac) Astor suffered horribly at the hands of his abusive senator father until he escaped at 17. Tiffany Monroe has come to LA to get a fresh start, trying to leave a traumatic childhood and abusive ex-boyfriend in her past. Tiff takes an instant dislike to Mac and Mac finds Tiff a bother. But when circumstances force Mac to ask Tiff to be his fake fiancé, she starts to see the real Mac behind the mask he shows the world. Time spent together makes both of them realize that their first impressions may not have been accurate. They are more and more drawn to each other, but the demons of the past could be too dark and too heavy to overcome.

“Don’t,” I whisper, tightening my fingers around the ones still in mine. “Don’t what?” “Don’t disappear again.”

Oh, how I loved being back in this world! There is something so addicting and magical about these characters and their stories. Despite his past, Mac is incredibly loving, caring, and self-less for those he cares about, even while not believing that he deserves the same. Tiff is smart and kind and brave and is quickly finding her own voice and deciding what she wants out of life. This is a beautiful story of growth and healing; of taking back your power and the right to decide that your past doesn’t have to determine your future. It’s a story about two people who may be broken and damaged but who make each other better and stronger together.

“Sweep me off my feet all you want,” I whisper. “But let me learn to stand on them by myself too.”

Rachael’s writing is just so incredible! All of her characters jump off the page and bury themselves deep in your mind and heart. I loved seeing all the familiar faces from A Twisted Tale and finding out what they are up to. And the clues sprinkled throughout about what’s to come……eeeek!! I absolutely canNOT wait to see where this series goes next! Wherever that is, I know I’ll definitely be there for it!

“You may be a dick, but I think you might be good too, Macallan.” I’m not, but that’s okay.

📖: Revel
This book was absolutely everything I imagined and more!!! 🥹 It was refreshing, heart-wrenching, and hilarious! It felt great to have the crew back under my eyes. I missed all of them so much. The banter between Mac & Tiff was my favorite part of this read. To witness their relationship come together through all the trauma, support, and love was beautiful! I loved seeing a very vulnerable Mac. I will say many times I wanted to wrap him in my arms and never let go! Tiff on the other hand going through her own trauma, was so brave & was everything Mac needed. She stood her ground. She pressed when needed too. Overall, she stood by Mac. “I’m right here” their chemistry was off the charts! 😮‍💨🔥

So one thing Rachel gives us is bread crumbs…You get an idea of where all the crew stories are headed just in this book. I LOVED THAT!! Kai, Alec, and Stef I can’t wait for your story. Ohhh and the love & support this family has for each other is so special! Gahhhh! Thank you for including El & Coop and the spawn of Satan. 😂 The messages that El would send to Mac reminded me so much of Bound and the their connection. They truly are twins. It pulled on my heartstrings. It made me miss so much of A Twisted Tale series. 🥹

“Everything about her reminding me of some kind of angel sent to save and damn me all in one fell swoop.”

“Macallan Makes Me Moan All Night Astor.” 😮‍💨

“Being damaged does not bar you from a happy life.” 🥺

“Taste what drives me fucking crazy.” Her lips close around my fingers, and she moans, doing exactly what I told her and leaving me to gasp now. “Good girl.”

Revel is the first book in the Mortals at Play series.

Full disclosure: Revel contains major spoilers from A Twisted Tale, so If you haven’t read that series yet, I highly recommend you do. It’s incredible and was my favourite read of 2022. In all honesty, It’s one of my favourite series of all time and will be one that I never stop recommending.

That being said, when I tell you that I have been counting down the days for the ARC of this baby to drop, I seriously mean it. Countdown and all.

I absolutely adore this world and have genuinely missed these characters so much. A Twisted Tale grabbed my heart instantly and has left a permanent mark there, and knowing that Revel was a spin-off of that made my heart so genuinely happy. I can't even put my thoughts into words right now, if I'm being completely honest, especially because I do my absolute best to avoid writing spoilers into my reviews. There is so much I could say, but for now, this will have to do.

What I will say, though, is that Rachael has yet again poured her heart and soul into these characters and takes us on one wild ride with Revel, and if you’ve read ATT, you will know exactly what I am talking about. My mind is honestly still whirling over it and all of the little Easter eggs Rach has dropped. I am so ready for Kai's book next, and Alec's too.

Rach, thank you for providing us with yet another beautiful story to fall in love with, especially at a time when I needed it the most. I’m really excited for what's to come!

Revel is the first installment of R. Phillip’s new Mortals at Play series, which is a spin off of the A Twisted Tale trilogy. If you haven’t read this series…run and read it now!!!!

I have several reasons why I enjoy R. Phillip’s story telling. Reason number one is the authenticity. Reason number two is feeling connected to the characters. Number three is [obviously] the spice.

Mac and Tiff’s story is surprisingly diffent from what I expected. On the surface, you have two people who seem completely different than each other. As the story goes on, I realized the difference between Mac and Tiff is surface level - socioeconomic status and the lifestyle it affords them.

When I think back to Elle describing how alike she is with Mac [in Entangled], I can’t help but wonder if this was a hint to all of the trauma he endured growing up and his various coping mechanisms we learn about in Revel. This is another example of R. Phillip’s story telling. She weaves plot threads throughout her stories that tie into or becomes a central storyline for another book.

Back to the review…Lite Spoilers Ahead

Tiff instantly dismisses Mac [in Fractured] and he straight away feels judged. Tiff doesn’t try to get to know him because she pegs him as a f*ckboy. Initially, Mac feigns indifference, but when she admits he reminds her of her ex boyfriend he’s exasperated. Why? Because he was raised in an unsafe environment and to be compared to the guy who hit her is ridiculous.

Mac is highly sensitive and feels more deeply. He is acutely aware of Tiff’s body language and emotions. And the emotional, mental and physical abuse Tiff suffered has made her more responsive to her surroundings and other people’s reactions. Mac and Tiff are starved for genuine affection - human touch, love and connection. I feel like they’re just trying to survive.

Tiff needs money to pay for living expenses and school. Mac wants full access to his trust fund so his father can’t use it to manipulate him. He needs to either wait until his 35th birthday or get married. Mac chooses to get married and he offhandedly announces Tiff is his fiancé.

Despite trying to treat their engagement as a financial arrangement, the pull towards each other grew the more time they spent in each other’s company. We see a different side to Mac. One where he’s protective and falls in love with Tiff even though he believes he is too damaged for her. And we see Tiff become a stronger version of herself. She truly sees Mac for who he is and is determined to to fight for protect him from his father. Learning the extent of his father’s abuse and how his mother made the choice to not keep herself safe was hard. Really hard.

I loved seeing Mac and Tiff’s growth as individuals and a couple. Their HEA is incredibly sweet and solidifies Mac as one of the hottest cinnamon rolls.

There are a few surprises in the end and I’m excited to see how some of these will play out in the rest of the series with Kai, Stef, and Alec.

If you decide to read Revel, make sure you check out the trigger warnings. I also suggest you don’t skip the A Note From the Author.

Side Note
Jace f*cking Dawson! If you read the A Twisted Tale trilogy, you know he died at the end of Fractured. Jace spent his time Somewhere In Between, where he eventually met Elle and they shared their goodbyes. We find out in Revel that Elle told Tiff about her time with Jace in the Somewhere In Between. As part of a creative writing project, Tiff writes a story that gives Jace a life after his death. In the epilogue, ten years later, we find out Tiff publishes an entire book series. I sincerely hope R. Phillips is going to write this series. I need more Jace! I need him to have a life!

🌟5/5🌟
🌶3.5/5🌶

TW: Abuse is a heavy topic in this book. Please be in a good mental space before reading. Also mentions miscarriage and some mental health issues.

Revel starts where the twisted tales series left off with Tiff moving to LA with our boys Stef, Kai, and her least favorite Mac. Conflicted about what her life has in store and how to heal from trauma.

Mac is still a wild party boy with no end in sight until his father calls him demanding he stand by him while he runs for Governor or he will cut him off from his trust fund.

Remembering a stipulation in the will he goes to Tiffany with an offer to help set them both free....

✨I absolutely loved and devoured Mac and Tiffs story. As with the first series, R. Phillips writing style that sucks you in and keeps you in a chokehold.

✨Macallan Astor... That mouth lol he is the perfect domineering cinnamon roll boyfriend. His character growth and strength was so heartbreaking and touching.

✨Tiffany had me laughing so many times. So unintentionally funny (Ain't no thang but a chicken wing 😂). Also growing strong and understanding what love really is ❤

✨ And of course appearances by our favorite couple Coop and El, Stef, Kai, even Alec. That warms your heart and wraps you in a found family blanket

✨I don't want to say more and give anything from the book away but she has done it again guys. Highly highly recommend this book!
