I’ll start out with an admission: this book intrigued me from the start. The description was compelling and involved, and it sounded like an unforgettable rollercoaster ride of emotion and potential heartache. I was eager to get started…
…and then it fell apart.
My largest issue with Cinderella Club was the lackluster, awkward, purple-prosey writing, which stood as a perfect example of show don’t tell. Characters were flat, almost caricatures, and the prose was bloodless, which made the book a chore to get through for this reader.
However, the novel does contain a great deal of steamy sexual encounters. If you’re looking for an involved work with ample bondage and numerous sex scenes, you’ll likely take more from this book than I did. It might be to some readers’ liking, but it wasn’t my cup of tea.
Well, I could not finish this book. I didn't like the writing style or the characters. I think the story line is basically terrible, and there are just too many scenes that are not erotic, but downright disgusting. I stopped at "Either you sh** or I'll make you sh**." Yeah, romantic, I know.
I'm truly not sure how to even describe the emotional, gut wrenching, roller coaster this book put me through. There were things about this book I absolutely hated. I continually kept putting the book down because it just kept being so horrific and unbelievable.
I read lots of BDSM and love very dark stories about it along with murder, rape, slavery and non-consensuality and I usually enjoy them very much, but.....this book.....for most of the book it felt too close to actual human trafficking. It was too close to what could be true life tragedy for so many. Then, there was the absolutely unbelievable idiocy of the protagonist and what seemed like zero character growth and self realization throughout the majority of the book. It was so completely unbelievable that a young girl in her 20's could be so completely and utterly gullible and acquiescent about her own treatment.
I guess I'm of the mind that if you're going to deal with these dark subjects like this book is addressing then you want to see a protagonist being active in trying to overcome what's happening and not just allowing things to continue to happen to them like a victim. If you're looking for a happy romance then maybe that mindset works fine, but to combine the two in the way this author did, was just too much of a stretch and hard to stomach. Yeah, I know it's fantasy, but come on, it's got to be believable enough to make it fantasy...that's the point!
And really? I could care less about brand names of designer clothing ...in fact the fact that they're wearing a XXX designer black dress tells me far less than actually describing the dress in detail. Name dropping designer names is something a 16 yr old might do.
Yes, I finished the book. I wanted to know if there was a point and while the end did have a HEA, it left me feeling cheated. 80% of the book was watching the character just sort of let life happen around her and then as things continued around her, so got some glimpses at truths and started thinking a little bit for herself, but even in the end, it just felt like too much had happened to redeem a truly happy ending.
I would have given it one and a half stars because there was definite promise in the story line and this could have truly been an epic that surpassed anything out there that's been written but it got lost in designer names and unbelievable/unrealistic childish BDSM fantasy. When you try to mix that with the reality of human sex trafficking, it just doesn't work.

***This book was very interesting and very sexual... I think it went to kind of a more darker BDSM but was enjoyable.. Kept me reading page by page and I could not put the book down.. I recommend this book to anyone that likes kinky f$&kery BDSM..
Another of those books that has been languishing on my "to be read" list for some time. I have had this on my e-reader for some time. I see now that it is no longer in electronic format and I hadn't gotten the other two books yet. *sigh* I hope they are being prepped for re-release. I liked this one well enough that I want to read the others.
I will warn you though, this is a dark tale of kidnap and dubious consent. Some may find triggers here so be warned. For those of us who like the darker side of things, this is an interesting read. Definitely a twisting of the beloved Cinderella fairy tale. I enjoyed it and will be watching for the other two books in the series to come on sale or be release again electronically.
