I write spicy romance books that end in an HEA. Contemporary romance, historical romance, paranormal romance…I write it all. The two things my books all have in common is lots of emotion and spice. Last year, I fell in love with a new subgenre: mafia romance. Since I write what I love to read, I started a new standalone series, Syndicate Rules where you’ll meet over the top alpha heroes in the Italian and Greek mafias as well as the Irish mob. There are arranged marriages, forced marriages, enemies to lovers, stalkers, forced proximity and lots of mafia intrigue. Morally gray is my new favorite color.

I’ve been published a while and most of my 90+ books have hit the Nielson Bookscan bestseller list, a few ended up on the USA Today bestseller list and some even hit national bestseller lists in the UK and Australia. My books have been translated into numerous languages and are for sale in dozens of countries around the world. I’ve won awards and been published with most of the big houses in New York, but my greatest achievement is touching readers’ hearts. When I hear from a reader who got caught up in one of my books, I know I’m doing what I’m meant to do.

I love writing emotionally deep stories with snappy dialogue and solid plots. I’m more grateful than I’ll ever be able to express that so many readers have taken my stories into their hearts and put my books on their reread and keeper shelves.

Bumping to 4 stars. He deserves it and so well done.
Re-read
Best hero ever.

Having read a lot more HP's and some of their rotten dirty slut-shaming scoundrels since I first read this, I have to add a star for the hero alone.

First review
This is the Harlequin equivalent of a little black dress or wedge sandals: it meets its objective.

The h is maneuvered by her stupid father into a MOC with the H. What is daddy's weapon of choice? He won't give her the money for her daughter's heart surgery. No, pops isn't heartless or wicked, he's simply misguided and arrogant.

The H is a wealthy tycoon who wants to get to the next rung in the social ladder and the h is opportunity. He was a bastard and his father and high born family ignored him. He's also had a thing for her for a long time.

If this isn't enough to go with, Monroe tosses in

Anyhoo, not as much angst as you would expect with an unwanted MOC, an alpha romero hunk, a moppet with heart condition, and an h with a "female" problem.

Lia suffers from a secret shame that has stolen her womanhood, and made her unable to enjoy sexual intimacy. It destroyed her marriage, because her husband couldn't stand not being able to make love to his wife. All Lia has left is her beloved daughter, whose heart condition, could shorten or end her life. She swallows her pride, and asks her grandfather, a proud, Spaniard noble, for the money to pay for her daughter's surgery. He gives her an ultimatum, she can marry the man he's selected for her, Damon Marquez.

Lia is inexplicably attracted to Damon, despite her sexual intimacy issue. When she finds out that she's been bartered to him by marriage, she has no choice but to go through with the marriage, sure that he'll walk away from her, as her first husband did. But she's underestimated Damon.

Damon has wanted Lia for a long time, since she was a young woman. When he gets his chance to have her, he grabs at it with both hands. She's so passionate and beautiful, how could he not take her in marriage? When Lia tells him that she cannot be intimate with her, he is determined to find away around her painful medical issue. Damon was a really good hero. He was so tender and patient with Lia, willing to put her needs first, and refusing to let her turn her back on her womanhood.

I thought Ms. Monroe did a good job of touching on a medical condition that most people probably have little knowledge of, vaginismus. This condition causes painful tightening of the vagina, which makes sex difficult to impossible for those who suffer from it. Lia thought it was her fault, and her doctor and husband certainly didn't help her to feel differently. But Damon is able to help her to claim back her sexuality. In the process, he claims her love.

Blackmailed Into Marriage was an interesting story, with a great hero, and a heroine in need of healing, in more ways than one.

Wow LM is an amazing author. I miss her books and I’m glad she has a new HP out soon. This book was amazing. Widowed single mother heroine enters an arrangerd marriage to save her daughter’s life(she has a heart condition) but she ends up falling for her husband our hero. This hero was truly a saint and a the definition of the word hero. He treated Lia and her little daughter with so much love and respect and kindness. He was so patient with her medical condition and healed her in so many ways. It’s official. I’m in love with Damian Marquez! Lol oh and epilogue with three kids was adorable too!

Generally I avoid books with sexuality issues as there is usually some history of sexual trauma and I am not comfortable reading about that. So once started I wasn’t too sure about continuing but it was the H who prodded me on.

This H is somewhat unique, enthusiastic about the upcoming moc and clear in mind what he wants from the match – respectability, alliance with a noble family and a title. He is also quite taken with the h and her daughter. So no grudging consent, resentment or hiding behind enforced compulsions. Usually the Hs are also blackmailed or compelled by the h’s father/grandfather and they start out as resentful grooms.

The h is the American granddaughter of a Spanish noble and a widow with a little girl who needs medical care. When she asks her grandfather for money, he sets the condition of moc with the H or no money. She has a sexual disability n she consents thinking once she gets the money on the wedding day, she will let the H know about her problem n he will want to get out of the marriage asap.

But the H is made up of sterner stuff and very much wants to keep his vows and make the h keep hers. So it’s a journey of sexual reawakening and taking baby steps towards complete ‘healing’.

The H was so awesome, so gentle, so patient and so sensitive and generous. Any woman with such a problem should get a guy just like him- improbable but one can always hope.

All the stars are for him. :*

Wow, a wonderful man. So hard to find an actual "hero" as the hero in an HP! So many are actually backward cavemen who don't really value women for themselves, just as commodities filling the traditional role of pure, untouched, non-working devoted slave-doormat-wife. This hero values heroine as a person...his devotion and patience and intelligence made him so strong and powerful. And incredibly sexy. It helped his likeability that the blackmailing (which was particularly egregious here) was done by heroine's grandfather, not the hero. So no reason to dislike him, and in fact he is deceived but unlike A Tainted Beauty or A Stormy Greek Marriage he takes immediate steps to get past the deception and understand why heroine might have not been forthcoming. He actually educates himself about her dysfunction and takes ownership of her sexuality in a very dominant, nurturing, erotic way.

I enjoy Lucy Monroe’s books, so decided to read Blackmailed Into Marriage when I was going through my Mills & Boon/Harlequin bookcase – yes I have one dedicated to my favorite books…in my bedroom. Nothing like getting a “dose” of romance before falling asleep!!!

Halfway through this book and I’m thinking…no, this is too ridiculous…I do not like this story at all!!! Let me tell you some of the things that just “grated”:

The hero – Damian Marquez is handsome, rich and always gets what he wants and what he wants is the heroine for a wife. She’s titled, needs money and so totally suitable for his needs – to breed aristocratic children for him, he will be able to buy a title from her grandfather...yes, that’s right – BUY a title for himself from the titled, impoverished aristocrats who will sell anything to get more money. The reason he wants a title is that he’s illegitimate and his titled father who never married his married refused to give it to him…nasty man….so Damian will get his revenge and buy a title.

The heroine – Rosalia Chavez-Torres gave up her family (her grandfather was totally overpowering, cut her off and her mother did nothing but give in to him after Lia’s father’s death), her pampered life and eloped at 18 with her American best friend, which turned out to be a bigger disaster than what she had expected. The only good thing to come out of this “fiasco” was a daughter, who suffers from a heart condition. Having been left destitute by her husband, she goes back to Spain asking her grandfather for assistance. What, did she really believe he would help her????
The help he offers? Marry and have children with Damian, who just happens to be more than a business partner and protégée. So, she does feel attracted to him and at first refuses the offer because – 1. She needs the money for her daughter’s operation and 2. She knows that once Damian discovers her secret, he will divorce her and she will be free at last to have her own life.

If only life could be so simple!!!

So now, Damian and Lia are married and then, on their wedding night, Lia’s secret is revealed
She believes that Damian will reject her and not want to remain married to her because he's "defective".

And then what happened!!!...Damian shows a side to him that just blew me away!!! Instead of rejection he reacts in the most extraordinary manner.

Understanding, tender, kind, patient, helpful and supportive beyond belief. He’s prepared to help her overcome her problem and wait until she’s ready to accept him as a lover, because by then she’s accepted him as a husband.

He’s like this amazing man that I became totally endeared with him.
Love is the only word that can describe the way my soul belongs to you."
She had hoped. She had wanted. She had desperately needed this to be true, but one doubt remained.
"Even with my problem?"

"It is not a problem for me. I love you." He pressed a soul caressing kiss to her more than willing lips. "This means I love your body and everything your body does."

Before the end of the story, I knew that these two would be happy together and fulfilled each other with love and happiness. That is totally clear when we read the last page, which had me smiling especially the part about the box that was dusted daily by the maid!!!!!!! Added a cute touch at the end.

I was impressed that the author wrote about a subject that not too many people may be comfortable with – perhaps today it’s more acceptable but the book was published in 2005, when I don’t remember such subjects being part of any of Mills & Boon books. I also liked the way it was written – sensitive and informative and not in “your face”.

This is one of those books that seemed really short. I guess not a lot happened. The set up was quite different in that the heroine had a medical condition which kept her from enjoying sex. The hero was quite nice about the whole thing and had absolutely zero asshat moments. This was the rich tycoon that we'd all like to meet in real life. The man was caring and sweet and loving, just macho enough and rich.

The story was nicely done and all character motivations made sense. So all in all not very HPish eh? Still I consider it worth the read.

Lia turned her back on her family years ago eloping with a young man and going to the US to live. Her husband dies and she is forced to return to Italy and ask for help from her grandfather to save her daughter from a congenital heart condition. Her first marriage was not a happy one because she suffers from a medical problem which prohibits her from enjoying the physical aspects of marriage. In order to get the money she needs to treat her daughter's medical condition, she must marry her grandfather's protege, Damian Marquez.

At this point, the book could have taken off into the typical HP storyline of.... "I hate you"..but fall into bed with you, friction between H and h resulting in callous treatment and abusive dialogues, etc. However, the author takes a different route and shows two people committed to making a marriage work in spite of some major limitations. There is oodles of chemistry, hot sex scenes, forgiveness, humility and above all else, we get the Happy Ending!

I thought this book was very well done.

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Desperate for funds for a life saving surgery for her daughter, Lia returns to Spain to ask her grandfather for help. Only Benedicto has plans for his granddaughter, and uses her plight to blackmail her to his will. Lia is to marry the self-made billionaire, Damian. The marriage will provide Damian with the respectability he desires in the Spanish nobility, plus an heir to carry-on the blood line. Lia is sickened by this business deal that would use her child's illness as a pawn, but has no choice but to agree. Yet neither men are aware of Lia's physical condition that will not allow her to make love. She knows that once Damian is aware of her condition he will not want to remain married to her. So as part of her agreement, she insists that funds be transferred to her personal account the day of the wedding and that Damain must remain faithful throughout their marriage or divorce will be the result. When she reveals her condition to Damian, he surprises her when he insists that he wishes to continue their marriage. And she shocks him when she tells him of her grandfather's blackmail, he had no knowledge of Kaylee's condition and this makes Lia feel guilty for marrying him under false pretenses. Damian wants her very much and is determined to show her that there are many ways to share intimacy. He convinces Lia to give their marriage a chance.

Amazing! Ms. Monroe takes on a very sensitive subject in a very positive and enlightening way. Damian is a strong hero who shows his maturity and understanding when he explains to Lia that sex is not what makes a marriage, it's the intimacy. Lia has deep emotional scars from her previous marriage, but bravely places her trust in her new husband. This is an emotional love story that grips at your heart and makes you rejoice at the HEA.

Wow. What a hero. I salute you, Damian!

Fantastic read. It was nice to know there is something "medical" in this book. I just knew about that dysfunction. This book reminds me why I love reading---it also gives me knowledge and learning.

The romance was between grown ups, too often both mc's act with the maturity of people in their early teens. Here the H showed his patience, commitment and devotion pretty much from the start. Definitely a hero worthy of the name. What made it 4 stars, was the subject matter that was tackled, a brave attempt to step out of the norm and I believe much needed. Just for that this would have been a 5* rating from me except a star was knocked off because the progression on the treatment seemed slightly unrealistic, in that the first attempt brought success. It was probably the dreaded word count that was the contributing factor to the wrap up. As always.

I really enjoyed this story. Especially the way it deals with sexual dysfunction. So many woman suffer from various forms of sexual dysfunction and our society, especially in more religious sectors does not want to know or talk about it and the woman is pretty much blamed for everything. Lucy is so right, the silence must not continue.

3.0 Stars!!!

I find books less than 200 pages tend to be a little thin for me....the story suffers and I think that is the case here. It was a really nice story with a great plot. Needing to save her daughter (cute five year old) who needs a surgery on her heart that the insurance company deemed as a "pre-existing condition" Lia turns to her wealthy grandfather in Spain for help, who dis-inherited her because she eloped with her American boyfriend (who has since died.)

He proposes a merger of sorts....a marriage to his friend, a hot Spaniard who resides mostly in New York and is hot for her. Lia is desperate and takes on the marriage especially when she sees how well her daughter and this man get along. He turns out to be a wonderful man who is caring and supportive and really wants this marriage to work. Lia discloses a secret which might destroy their marriage after she get's the money for her daughter and instead of fleeing, he digs in and tries to help her.

The relationship problems and hurts from the past are addressed with her mother and grandfather and Damian and Lia put together a very solid relationship through the book built on trust, respect, attraction and eventually love.

I wish this had another 50-100 pages. A little more detail and depth to the story would have done the trick. The problem was not with the story or the writing but with the pages to help me really get into this story. Don't want to discourage you from reading....of this type...this was one of the good ones. All and all: Good, easy, fast read.

Lia had turned her back on her rich aristocratic family. But now she needs their help to save her daughter. Their response - to sell her off to the highest bidder. Damian Marquez prizes Lia’s blue blood – he was stripped of his own title at birth. Lia is the perfect brood-mare, who can provide him with an heir – and a spare!
But, as the wedding night looms, Lia knows the truth will out – because Damian doesn’t know she can’t be his in the marriage bed…

Let’s hear it for a MMC who decides to figure out how to help his bride even though they were both misled to their marriage of convenience. Her daughter and Damian quickly develop a father-daughter relationship that seems authentic, and he pulls out all the stops to make sure her heart surgery happens and soon. He never once gets upset about her vaginismus and takes matters into his own hands after proving to her that she could trust him. I mean, who wouldn’t swear off men forever if your first husband left you because you physically couldn’t have penetrative sex and the doctor told you it your fault and a mental issue? Damian’s handmade box for the dilators was incredibly sweet, and the fact that he never saw them as a crutch or fatal flaw, just another sex toy. Damn, should we all be so lucky to find a man like that.

I docked a star for her coming THREE TIMES from penetration alone the first time they have PV sex, the third one being simultaneous. I guess with such a heavy and perceivably shameful topic of vaginismus, Monroe had to throw in some ludicrous details for romance reasons.

Wow. The H is an amazing 5 stars. Or rather: he’s the entire galaxy of stars.

The erotic scenes and the erotic conversations between them are so well written. His desire, his passion, his kindness, his tenderness. That’s another wow.

And I like the fact that she is a woman with dark hair and with big breasts instead of the typical blonde, perfectly figured or very thin HP h. In my opinion, variation in how a h looks or should look, is a good thing.

I take one star off because I don’t like HP’s where the man or woman has been married before to someone else and he/she already has a child.

After reading this, I think I want to read more HP’s from this writer.,

Very appealing hero

My four star rating reflects the appeal of the hero mostly, and the fact that the author was brave enough to attack an issue that does not not get talked about much. While I initially liked the heroine very much because of her honesty and bluntness, there were times she was cringe worthy in her naivety that crossed into voluntary stupidity. The heroine was often likeable, but she cried and babbled a lot. Ew. Still, this was a different and interesting Harlequin, and I greatly enjoyed the hero's tenderness.

Well this was different - in a truly excellent way.

This was simply fabulous - the author took a distressing and not uncommon condition and handled it in a sensitive, compassionate and emotional way. Damian, the hero was amazing - compassionate, sensual, loving and erotic as he introduced Lia to intimacy and sexual satisfaction. What a man - no cruelty, no man-whoring, just sensitive and emotional actions to help his wife. Again - just Wow!

I was just recently thinking if vaginismus would ever show up in a HP like endometriosis, infertility, etc. have. Didn’t intentionally search for one, but landed on this one. It feels a bit special to me because I suffer from the condition and it’s a bit upsetting to see that it seems ludicrous to some.

"Blackmailed into Marriage" is the story of Lia and Damian.

Mature characters come together in this romance, in which the heroine is a single mother who is forced to marry the hero to gain financial help. The rest of the story is them dealing with her sexual trauma and dysfunction in detail.

It was.. something.

The hero was everything in this, top notch patience and caring for the heroine and her kiddo.
