I got this book from the store book exchange at the store I have coffee at. It is a good book full of facts. I have read other of these books and liked all of them.
This is the 23rd edition in the Uncle John readers series. It, like most of the other volumes, is very interesting and full of plenty of tidbits and fun facts. Sections are divided into short, medium and long - which allow for a quick two minute read or a longer 15 minute read. Some of my favorite sections were: How to Crack a Safe, Ants, History of the Shopping Mall, Superhero Flops and Esperanto.
The Bathroom Readers' Institute once again delivers another great book! Among its pages:
- The origin story of the Chia Pet - Keith Moon, Bathroom Bomber: The drummer for the band Who, his discovery of cherry bombs & how he destroyed hotel toilets. - The story of the 2001 Anthrax attacks. - The birth of Esperanto. - Dustbin of History - The Pearl Harbor Spymaster: A lone Japanese spy who fed his country's military with information about the layout & routines of the naval base, allowing them to launch their surprise attack. - Lost Explorers - Tales of 4 explorers who left to scout exotic locations...and were never heard from again: Mungo Park: Went to explore Africa in 1805. Percy Fawcett: Went to explore the Amazon in 1925. Ludwig Leichhardt: Wanted to explore a 2,000+ mile stretch of Australia from Brisbane to Perth. Salomon Andre: An 1897 balloon flight to the North Pole.
And of course, more from Uncle John's standard pages such as: -Strange Lawsuits -Word Origins -Dumb Crooks -Flubbed Headlines AND MORE!
Everything which makes for another great Uncle John Bathroom Reader!
How can you go wrong with a book like this. Took me since Christmas to read but that is because I read it in... ummmm...... a number of sitting's. Love the useless and sometimes useful esoterica in these books.
For those of you that have not looked into this series of books yet...do so! These are wonderfully fun books filled with great stories, history, quotes, and trivia. And there not just for the bathroom...ha! I have read several of them now and will get more.
I love this series of books. It's perfect when you have kids because you can pick it up and read a short section. Sometimes I feel like everything I know I've gotten from these books.
