Rate this book
For most patients, a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s places a looming specter over the future without any proven treatment to stop the inevitable progression of symptoms.

Based on a serendipitous discovery in a patient with Parkinson’s, The Promise of Lithium describes, in easy-to-understand language, the compelling body of evidence dating as far back as 1959 supporting the use of over-the-counter (OTC) lithium supplementation to potentially slow the progression of both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Discover the pros and cons of the two OTC lithium formulations available and the important background information you will need to decide if OTC lithium is right for you and at what dosage.

If you or a loved one is living with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, time is of the essence to quell their destructive processes. The Promise of Lithium provides great hope that simple OTC lithium supplementation may preserve these patients’ futures.

Dr. Thomas Guttuso brings an understanding of Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's disease to a general audience. This is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the two diseases. Written with the goal to help non medical personnel understand how Alzheimer's and Parkinson's affect the brain and how the progression might be stopped or slowed.
Many medical breakthroughs are a result of an accident and lithium is brought to Dr. Guttuso's attention that same way. He explains about lithium's role in possibly slowing the progression of these diseases. The Brain Bermuda Triangle, the Blood-Brain Barrier and TIME is BRAIN is discussed at length. All important aspects of understanding how lithium could affect AD and PD. Problems with using lithium are discussed such as getting funding for needed tests, drug patent issues and early trials that used too high doses of lithium. Using lithium as an FDA approved drug for AD and PD has a ways to go but by reading this book you'll have a better understanding of the promise of lithium.

Concise and hopeful for PD and AD

Written with enough information but not too detailed for the average reader. For example, why tobacco helps and it's not nicotine . Gives me hope that it will help with PD.
