DOG DAYS ON THE FARM takes place during the years 1944-1947. It tells of a German prisoner of war camp behind Gerber Products, and an exciting escape of some of the prisoners. The jubilant days of victory over Germany and Japan are portrayed through a child's eyes. World War II days, with its rationing of basic foods and supplies, made living on a farm unique. A large Victory Garden supplied the Hooker family with ample food during the war days. Special relationships of eight-year-old Louie with their pet dogs on the farm south of Fremont, Michigan, are told in story fashion. The antics of their family of ten are sure to make you chuckle. DOG DAYS ON THE FARM presents this part of American history to boys and girls in a manner that is interesting and educational. Adults will enjoy it too.
