Rust: A Murder Mystery

I wish to God these calculations had been executed in steam. --Charles Babbage "Calculations"

A decade ago, Babbage's dream was made reality with the construction of the first Difference Engine, a massive steam-powered computational device that has changed the landscape of Victorian England. The man responsible for the construction was Michael Handley, a mathematical savant who could both understand what Babbage wanted to build, and could secure the funding to build it.

This morning he was found dead in his study in London. Private investigator Mark Dampfwerk has been brought in to figure out who would want Handley dead. To do so, he'll have to follow a trail of clues that start in a ruined manuscript on Handley's desk, through London and Cambridge, while butting up against the smiling hindrance of Scotland Yard's new Engine powered investigative service and those who would want to see the Engines in all their forms destroyed.

He must chase a murderer through the steam powered world of Rust.

Rust: A Murder Mystery, originally published in 2004 through Lulu, available now for the first time on the Kindle. Author DL Thurston dabbles in science fiction, horror, and various other genres in his push for further and further publications. He can be found at his website DLThurston.com
