I like reading YA stories. They are quick reads, don't require a lot of thought, and usually are a great way for me to unwind before sleeping.
I just finished the Dogs of the Drowned City series by Dayna Lorentz. I've been a vet tech; dogs are my favorite animal and I really liked this series. I feel Lorentz got the dog personalities right, her events seem realistic, and I like the underlying themes she explores. I'd definitely recommend this series for YA readers.
Shep really is an intriguing character. He struggles with the best of them, unsure of his decisions, struggling with forgiveness and changing ingrained ideals. I really have enjoyed watching him grow. When he finally gets his ending, they are at the same physical place the book starts, but not the same dogs return. This was a great series, five stars throughout. Maybe one day I'll go back and write a longer review, but I have a pounding headache so maybe not today. Try it out for yourself!
This book had me crying, which is very difficult when you try to read aloud to your son. I enjoyed it, but I guess I was looking for more. It is a great story of friendship, forgivness, acceptance and loyalty. My son truly enjoyed it and was ready to bring me tissues when I needed them. :o)
Calling all readers of DOTDC!! Please write Dayna Lorentz and ask her to please write a forth book, If you agree with me that she left her readers in the dark at the end of THE RETURN!!!! PLease!!!
