I've just recently started exploring the SoulPancake website, and decided to buy the book because I liked the idea behind it. It's not necessarily a book that requires a lot of reading - which could be a good thing. SoulPancake provides you with thought-provoking quotes and prompts that should make you ponder life's questions. While being a bookworm certainly has its benefits, SoulPancake makes me realize the importance of finding the beauty in life by taking action, making decisions, and digging deeper into the soul to discover what is really important. You can think as much as you want, but it's not until you put your thoughts into action that they really develop meaning and purpose.

I was so excited when I heard this book was coming out. I'm a huge "Dwight Schrute" fan, & when I heard that Rainn Wilson wrote a book combining spirituality, art, & what it means to be human, it immediately caught my interest. This book is a quick read, but gives you lots to think about. It also gave me ideas on things I could do to inspire myself! A lot of the questions asked in this book will really make you think about WHY you think & believe the way you do. I love to delve into the deeper things of life, to find the meaning in everything, as I believe everything happens for a reason. This book will help you get to know yourself better & also offers a lot of interesting art to look at! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to take a deeper look within.

The book is divided into 9 catagories:

- The brain & the soul

- Art & creativity

- Experiences & emotions

- Love, sex, & relationships

- Virtues & vices

- Introspection, reflection, & identity

- God & religion

- Life, death, & living

Sections are “kicked off” by noteworthy contributors including David Lynch, Justin Vernon, and Josh Ritter.
It’s difficult to decide what I enjoyed most about SoulPancake, between fascinating quotes, facts, artwork, and graphic design - and the interactive aspect. This is a book that not only makes the reader think; it drives the reader to creativity, to question one’s self and provide answers.

And in case you hadn’t caught on, this project was put together by Dwight from the office! Huzzah

This is a tough book to rate for two reasons:
1) It is more of a workbook than "readable" nonfiction. The point of the book is to "chew on life's big questions", which requires some work beyond the mere act of reading.
2) The graphics were so distracting to me. I struggle with these books that are so visually stimulating because my eyes cannot settle on anything. This book suffers from a serious lack of considering visual accessibility. Many color selections make the print nearly impossible to read. The "dig deeper" questions are printed in such a small font -- and are mostly dwarfed by the graphics.

This probably would have been a 4-star review had I not struggled so with the book's design.

Publishers: Please consider visual accessibility and whether or not the medium (the graphics) obscures the message.

Full review to come, but here are my thoughts thus far:

I am in the midst of a deep ennui. Is it a midlife crisis? (Probably). Is it a spiritual crisis? (Possibly).
All I know is that I heard Rainn Wilson on The Rich Roll Podcast (episode #749 - We Need a Spiritual Revolution), and I was hungry for more!

At first glance, is this one of those annoyingly visually unfriendly books that I typically return to the library in a huff, but I am resolved to stick it out. Or just flip through the book until I can get my hands on his newest book, Soul Boom: Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution.

A fantastic book to make you contemplate many of life's big questions, fuelled by inspirational art and quotes. This is a great book to read alone, taking your time to really contemplate the thoughts raised on each page (I would recommend min one day per double page). There are a small number of practical activities the book suggests for you too, some of which can be quite interesting (although some I worried could be disrespectful or a recipe for arrest, such as gatecrashing a stranger's funeral or the reverse-pickpocket). Soul Pancake also makes for a fantastic collection of interesting conversation starters for both online or real life conversations!

My only gripe was that so many of the questions seemed to be focused on the idea of regret for the past or wanting to change the past. As someone who has no interest in either, about a quarter of the questions seemed irrelevant (I'm probably exaggerating).

It's hard to give an accurate star rating to this...
It's more about what you get out of it.
It's about learning and being more open to the world.
It's a book about spirituality and individualism, so if you aren't into that, you won't find this very interesting.

Less of a "read" and more of a thought provoking romp for a rainy afternoon. You could literally open this up to any page and find something to think about for quite a long while.

Imagine being in a retreat but much cooler and none of that religious shit. I digress Rainn Wilson’s (Dwight from the Office) description of the book wherein he said it might change or question my views of religion etcetera. But I didn’t probably because I am not a practicing Catholic anymore.

Moreover, this book had activities that really honed my skills in writing and thinking critically. A philosophical and weird adventure for psychopaths like me (kidding.)

While some activities can’t be done for obvious reasons, I recommend this to people who are stuck in a rut or lack purpose. It helped me go through my anxities and I will certainly go back to this book once the pandemic is over.

Thank you Rainn and other creators. (I’m gonna lie if I said I didn’t pick this book because Dwight Schrute wrote it.)
I'm also going to lie if I said I didn't read the book in the voice of Dwight Schrute

I wanted to give a 3.5 rating. I liked this book and then I didn't. Depends on what your criteria for a good book is. I loved the topic of the book, I loved how it is presented, I love the variety of pictures. (You dont get that with spiritual books usually.) I love the questions. I love the quotes used for each section. What I didn't like is the discussion on those topics. There was none. The questions were excellent, but I need a discussion of some sort to bring it to a conclusion. I would of liked to see how some of the creators, authors, designers answered those questions. I realize opinions are just that but to better connect with the book, I would have liked to see that. Otherwise would recommend a spiritual seeker to read this book. You will enjoy it.

I found this book when I was looking for "Soul Boom," by Rainn Wilson, and it was a nice discovery. While I probably wouldn't agree with its collaborators on all of their beliefs or views, I do think I could enjoy some long conversations with them about the possibilities of this world and the next. I love the combination of art, philosophy, science, and religion, as they are all important elements in a full life. Note: This book is not something to just read straight through - it is a collection of ideas and questions to consider over time. And it somehow presents them with both reverence and humor, prompting beauty and fresh perspectives all around.

"SoulPancake"- "La panacea dell'anima". Anima o animo?

L'orologio a cucù!".

Buona lettura, quindi. Anzi, buona creazione del vostro libro .....

I think this book is meant to be experienced together, with friends or communities. This book is filled by thought provoking questions, interesting real life prompts and really lovely art in every page. It's not that you can't enjoy it by yourself, but the most interesting part (for me, at least) is knowing how people answer the questions, what story do people get from doing the prompts, the discussion it creates. So, grab your friends and have a mind provoking time with this book!

This was a workbook style interactive book. These are the kind of books I just live for. I love to write and respond to all of my books. But when it's particularly necessary that's just a bonus for me. I wouldn't say this was a workbook that's going to line up next to a college textbook kind of workbook. This was a fun little scrapbook with various opportunities to write but every page wasn't designated for you to write and respond to. A lot of it was eye candy.

Apart from the fact that Rainn Wilson is a unique force in the world of entertainment, this book is utterly estimulating to the mind, the eye and of course, the soul, for all those out there who call themselves creatives, this is a perfect getaway not only for the attractive and artsy stuff all over its pages but for bringing up so relevant, sincere and intriguing life's big questions, I am so glad I picked this one up, the print version is pretty darn awesome, two thumbs up sir.

I didn’t realize, when I borrowed this book from the library, that it was interactive and includes many fill-in-the-blanks and activities. I added it to my Amazon wish list so that I can deface my own copy. It’s a pretty reflective book that asks a lot of tough questions and explores some pretty deep topics. But, in true Rainn Wilson fashion, I loved it! It had some creepy artwork, too!

Don’t bother reading this

My niece bought me this book and all I came away with is simply questions Rainn Wilson tries to pass off as hard.

Don’t waste your time and money

Even my niece after reading it regretted getting it

Get it for the funky art inside. The actual substance could be distilled to about 10 pages. Words-wise, it's mostly a compilation of (not so epic) quotes, (not so thought-provoking) questions and (not so interesting) ramblings.

You get what you expect from this book.

There are more subjects that are covered with nice illustrations, questions and quotes from famous people. Most of the questions make you think about the subjects that are dealing with.

Before every chapter there is small interview with some famous person or friend of the authors. The idea is original and interesting.
