Rate this book
Grab all seven books in the thrilling COLONY MARS series, plus a bonus short story in this great value 1800-page sci-fi box set!

All contact is lost with the first privately funded colony on Mars during a long and destructive sandstorm. Satellite imagery of the aftermath shows extensive damage to the facility and the fifty-four colonists who called it home are presumed dead.

Three years later, a new mission sets down on the planet surface to investigate what remains of the derelict site. It’s not long before, mission biologist, Dr. Jann Malbec, discovers the truth about how the colony was funded — by conducting illegal genetic experiments using the unsuspecting colonists as guinea pigs. She also realizes that while extraordinary breakthroughs were made, they came with a terrible human price.

Nevertheless, once news of these experiments makes it back to Earth, powerful corporations begin to fight for control of this research, and start to send new missions to acquire it — by force if necessary. But Malbec fears that allowing this research to return to Earth has the potential to doom humanity to a pandemic of apocalyptic proportions. So she vows to do everything she can to prevent this from happening — even if it means destroying what remains of the colony and any chance she has of returning home.

I liked it up until I didn't. Got to book 5 and the story was getting political, companies fighting over who controls what on Mars, etc. So won't finish, would rather the book had continued with the struggle to actually sustain life on that planet.

Awesome story!!! I recommend this writer!!!

Spellbound by this series.
I have no doubts that Gerald M. Kirby more than a science fiction writer is a visionary of the future of humankind in space. We can change the environment (Mars) around us but Man will be always the same complex being. Going into Space doesn’t change us psychologically, on the contrary, we find ourselves now exposed to new challenges.
We have to deal with these new experiences with the limited knowledge we have, unless we are called to improvise and come up with new solutions when faced with new challenges.
Adaption is the Name of the New Game. While Man remains the same, the outside environment requires new solutions;
and Man has to be willing to accept the consequences of its actions.
We are going now where no Man has gone before: Space, the New Frontier.

Wonderful Collection

The main story and the short stories attached at inspirational and affirming of humanity. Mars is a challenge for our age but to imagine what could happen in the future is exciting . Mr. Kirby has created a world that feels possible even as it is now science fiction. I didn’t want it to end.

A must read for any colonists buff.

So much about this book was really great. There were places that were so slow I just wanted to take a stick and beat it to get it going again. And if I have to admit it, I'm sorry it's done.

Best read in a long time

This series was fantastic! I enjoyed all the characters, both good and bad, but especially the little robot Gizmo. His character was brought to life so brilliantly and funny that there were moments that you just had to smile and laugh…

interesting storyline and great character development. It kept my interest through all 7 books and the addition of new characters along the way helped keep the pace going and kept me curious as to what would come up next. I would be interested in reading more books from this author.

From the very first chapter of "Colony One," I knew I was in for a captivating ride. The book sets the pace for an addictive series, totaling six books followed by two short stories—a perfect way to ease off the adrenaline rush. Gerald M. Kilby’s opening installment launches us into a daring mission on Mars, aiming to uncover the fate of its first colony. This journey through life on the Red Planet is far from a simple stroll in the park; it’s a labyrinth of twists and turns that keeps you glued to the pages.

The influence of sci-fi legends like Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Frank Herbert is palpable, giving depth and gravity to Kilby’s storytelling. Kilby crafts a narrative that’s both a tribute and a fresh take on the classic themes of space exploration and survival. The end of each book leaves you craving more—dam you, Kilby, for such a thrilling literary escapade! Now for the Belt Series

excellent group of stories - one caveat

I truly could not put this set of books down and read all seven in about five days. Excellent storytelling by the author, exciting, edge of your seat plot lines, likable characters - just all around excellent entertainment.
However, as some others have noted, there seems to be a problem with the editing. There are misspellings, words are misused and there are grammatical errors sprinkled throughout. Each time some writing error popped up it was a distraction from the storyline.
Honestly, if these books were edited well, I would be rating this series a ten out of five.

Unbelievably. Good Series

This series documents the imagined development of.Martian colonies. This series was not just science fiction, but political thriller and mystery too. The characters are well-defined. The novels are paced well. The first two novels are only slightly slower.because of the need to develop the backstory. Also included in this set are two short stories. One is a prequel to.the Colony.Mars series. The other is a stand-alone story. Like good short stories, they are quick.and engaging. Kilby is a gifted writer

Good function read.

Good stories, about human ingenuity. The unknowns of conditions on mars and other points in our solar system as well as the immense con juncture of fusion. We start with the premise that mars had very little power generating capabilities yet over and over again Presented with fusion reactors. The immense power consumption of starting a fusion reactor is enormous yet Simple techs installing them in rovers and robots. Then these plasma guns...where did this energy come from?

The Colony Mars Complete: Books 1-7 reading is extraordinary and the author is, in my opinion, a very talented writer. The story line is well thought through and presented believably. Let us hope that our future reality is sustainable with all of our human frailties. Looking forward to reading more by Gerald M. Kilby.

Fun, believable read

Great story! I started feeling anxious at about 12% into the series because I was already not wanting it to end. Kilby nailed quirky characters, even down to their own personal choices of swear words, (pleasantly not often). Solid thumbs up for anyone 12 and up.

Colony Mars - what if?

I loved Gizmo, the eccentric Droid, who was so central to most of the stories, a loveable non-scary AI powered robot.
This book will appeal to people who like near future sci-fi, taken science as it is and extrapolatingit a bit, not into far future far fetched.

The Truth about Mars

I was captured by this series from the beginning. Each book builds on the hardships of colonizing a hostile environment but also recognizes the politics, the management, the culture, the human issues that would affect a large community. What great reads! Highly recommend!

I started the first book Mars Colony and it was the first Sci Fi book I had read in a long time and couldn’t put it down, hence diving into the 2-7 in the omnibus and loved it. It is a fast pace read and each book is new scenario but obviously all links together including adding new characters.
If your into sci fi and want a fast easy read this is perfect.
Loved it.

This was a REALLY good time! I binged the entire series and enjoyed each permutation. One of the things I really liked was the genre-play. Sometimes hardcore space adventure. Sometimes hard-nosed cop investigation. Sometimes political intrigue. …and then there’s Gizmo. A bot slightly reminiscent of R2-D2 with C-3PO’s voice and Oscar Wilde’s attitude.

Escape

It’s always nice to escape the reality of everyday life. Gerald M. Kirby has brought Mars to life. The description of mars and the colonies that exist on mars are brought to life by Kirby, I would have thought he had been there. Enjoyed this series greatly. Thank you Mr. Kilby.

Entertaining.

On the downside, each book is alike in plot and structure to the next as a half-dozen cupcakes with only varied icing. The good news is that Mr. Kilby didn't pad the page count with bloated narrative. The books move along a a brisk and crisp rate. The plots of the books may be redundant, but never boring.

Great series

I have become a fan of Kilby’s work and this series is no exception. I read the first six books as individuals but then bought the series to get the seventh and enjoyed rereading them.

I finished the entire set, which says a lot, but the indestructible heroines were a bit much to take. They were shot (crossbows and plasma weapons), blown up, and stranded without air, yet survived, and beat the baddies!

This was a wonderful, even if long read. I suspect it captures well the efforts to colonize Mars. There will be a lot of challenges in this effort. And people being who they are, there will be a lot of corruption in the process. Well worth the time it takes to read it.

Speed-read at times

Interesting read, but gets a little long if you're reading the entire series in a row. Some parts were WAY more interesting to me than other parts, so I would resort to skimming at times. Could've made 1 pretty good 500 page book.
