I'm always excited to read another tale from Mulberry Lane and LIFE AND LOVE AT MULBERRY LANE is the ninth in this delightful series, as I do enjoy the Harpers Emporium as well. But I must admit to being somewhat lost when beginning a new one - which is probably because I haven't followed the series from the beginning - I do tend to get lost with the characters, who's who and who they each relate to. I discovered a helpful character list after I had finished the book, because when I download it and open it, it opens at the first chapter, not at any helpful character list...which I could have done with before delving in, as it has been so long since the last Mulberry Lane book.
Now I can't remember where the previous one left off but I'm fairly sure the stars of this installment are a lot older than they were last time round.
It's 1961 and time has moved on since the past decade or so since the war ended. The world is opening up new horizons with more travel (both in the UK and abroad) and this time we see Peggy and Able head off to America for a long-earned holiday. Many changes are happening not only within the world but in Mulberry Lane as Maggie and Fay have opened a new restaurant in the Pig and Whistle while Fay expands her catering business, having taken over the reigns of the much loved pub. But the girls miss Peggy's presence, since she has come to be the stalwart and matriarch to everyone in the Lane.
Meanwhile, Freddie has taken a summer job as a lifeguard in Hastings and an opportunity arises for him to meet new people and gain more experience which will serve him well when he returns in the autumn to attend college to become a sports teacher. Like his mother, he takes in waifs and strays and tends to help those who need help most. This comes in the form of his landlady's niece Greta, whom her aunt treats as nothing more than a skivvy. He encourages Greta to see her own potential, that she can be more than a skivvy for her bad-tempered aunt. Freddie insists they are only friends, but does Greta know that?
Life continues on Mulberry Lane as love comes in the form of a race car driver and a rock star for the two young women running the Pig and Whistle. But the pair were adamant when setting out on their business venture that neither wanted to marry just yet until they had lived and built up their business. But will they be governed by their hearts or their heads?
Still the girls' missed Peggy's guiding hand, her expertise and her company. And when they haven't heard anything from Peggy or Able from America for a few weeks, they begin to worry. But when they learn that Peggy is in a serious and critical condition in hospital, everyone is shocked. What happened to Peggy? And will she survive?
The lives and loves of Mulberry Lane, and those beyond by extension, are thrown into turmoil with this recent news and they band together to support each other in their hour of need.
While we do catch a glimpse of some of the regulars, the focus this time is mostly on Fay, Maggie and Freddie as well as Peggy and Able. Most others garner a mention, some even appear on occasion, but their stories aren't at the forefront this time round. I must say I was shocked to find Shirley a doctor already. Last time I looked she was just beginning her studies and now she is qualified. Is it my imagination but has the series jumped a few years? Because Freddie and Fay appear to be a lot older too. Then again, as I said previously, it has been a long time between books I may be mixing book 7 or 8 up together.
Although love blooms for the girls, it didn't appear to be at the forefront of the story but rather their business and of course Peggy. Greg and Jace just seemed to be passing by. I couldn't really form much of an opinion of them as they appeared so little, although I admit to not liking Jace at all. I'd hoped he be written out somehow...I will neither confirm or deny...just that it was hope I held onto throughout the book.
I really enjoyed my time in Mulberry Lane once again despite it taking me a while to grasp who everyone was again. I do however find some of the dialogue to be a little stilted and wooden in places and not really how people would actually speak but apart from that, it is another wonderful addition to the series. And one of these days I will find the time to go back and start at the very beginning instead of having come in halfway through...lol
I can't wait to rejoin the lives and loves of those in Mulberry Lane once again, and hope I can join the dots a little quicker next time round.

Rosie Clarke is a favorite historical fiction author of mine. I have now reviewed seven books from the Mulberry Lane series.
Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is the ninth novel in the series. Having not reviewed historical fiction for awhile, I jumped at the chance to review Rose Clarke's latest.
Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is the ninth book in the series, and there's a useful character list at the beginning.
London, 1961.
People are starting to travel more, both within England and the UK and abroad. I have always really liked Peggy and how she cares so much for people and how the pub is such a symbol in the area of East London Mulberry Lane is in.
I especially liked Freddie's story, and how he helped children with disabilities and wanted to more in the future. He and the other lifeguards in Hastings in Sussex were great people.
I liked the setting of Hastings and Sussex since I lived near Eastbourne in East Sussex for some years when I was little,
Peggy and her husband are in need of a much-needed break in the USA.
Themes are love, personal challenges and how the residents of Mulberry Lane always pull together to help each other out.
The Mulberry Lane series is a real stand out series from Rosie Clarke, and I definitely want to review more books.
Rosie Clarke is incredibly talented in character description, atmosphere and making her books homely and heartwarming, but capturing the personal struggles and dramatic moments of the time period, too and showing how that plays out in the lives of the characters.

This is the 9th book in the Mulberry Lane series and it’s an absolutely wonderful read. I’ve read all of the books in this series and each time I start a new one it’s like meeting up again with family and friends. This series is one of my absolute favourites when it comes to saga books. As soon as you start reading this book you’ll be brought right back in time to the early 1960’s and you will get so caught up in the lives and loves of the residents of mulberry Lane you wont want to stop reading this wonderful book. This book could be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the previous books as they are all excellent.

Life and Love at Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke takes us back to Mulberry Lane where The Pig & Whistle is closing for renovations. Peggy and Able Ronoscki are heading to America on a much-deserved vacation. Maggie Rowan will handle the food for the bar and the new restaurant while Fay Ronoscki is handling her new catering venture. Both ladies are excellent chefs, and they want to make of success of both businesses. Love may derail their plans when an up-and-coming singer sets his sights on Fay and a racing car driver fancies Maggie. The family is shocked when they receive news that Peggy has been injured, and she is in critical condition. The family will need to rally together to get through this difficult time. Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is the ninth book in The Mulberry Lane series. While Life and Love at Mulberry Lane can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order to get the full experience. It is spring of 1961 which brings changes to Mulberry Lane. Clothes, music, and attitudes are different. It is great to catch up with Peggy, Able, Janet, Pip, Maggie, Fay, Freddie, and the other characters. The author has created a great cast of characters for this series. I find the characters to be realistic and relatable. As with each book in the series, we are introduced to new characters. Freddie, Fay, and Maggie are growing up. While each one of them says they wish to delay getting married until their careers take off, cupid has a way of striking when you least suspect it. I have enjoyed seeing the characters grow up and begin their own families. I like how the family members are close and are there for each other. The people who live on Mulberry Lane are part of the extended family. We get to see how each member of the family copes with change, setbacks, and injuries. I thought the accident that injures Peggy and Able suited the time period and events happening in America. Peggy’s injuries were unexpected. The author captured 1961 with local and world events, the music references, the books, movies, and the change in people’s attitudes. I like that we get to see more career opportunities opening for women. While the younger generation is open to the shift in values, some of the older generation is still clinging to traditional values. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next with the residents of Mulberry Lane. Life and Love at Mulberry Lane is a historical tale about family, community, friendship, and love.

Life And Love At Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is the most delightful historical novel that entertained me from the start.
The action is set in 1961 as we follow residents of Mulberry Lane in London. It is a time of opportunity as new ventures are opening up. We also travel to the south coast to accompany the life guards there.
Foreign travel is on the horizon. The world appears to be shrinking as planes become accessible for ordinary folk.
We hear of the brutality in Alabama as Martin Luther King jr leads peaceful protests for equality. The people are met with cruelty and violence. A huge heart from London is not used to the laws of segregation, seeing only people in need of help. She cannot stand by and do nothing but there are terrible consequences.
Young love is blooming. We see the value of good hearts over appearances. Kindness is always attractive.
Family and friends are important. We see a close knit community in action.
Life And Love At Mulberry Lane is a wonderful warm novel. Community and care are the order of the day and the heartbeat of the novel. I adored my trip to Mulberry Lane.

Well the last one of these for a while.
This is book 9 of the Mulberry Lane series, and I've given it 5 stars, but.....the missing kids are still MIA. Matty, Maureen's 2nd son and Rose's third child with Tom. This should be addressed. I read the books one after the other, so you do wonder, no mention of any accidents, etc.
The story revolves a lot this time on the sort of baby boomers, although really they're born during the war. Maggie Rowan, Fay and Freddie. Although Peggy is back in the 2nd half of the book she's on the periphery now. But the first 8 books she was pretty much a central character. I hope there will be more.

An ok read!!
I felt this book was nothing compared to the others. The previous books 1-8 (5/5) were so satisfying and kept you wanting more. Previous characters who had so much involvement before, were glossed over and I don't get me started on Faye..... To sum up book 9 and my anticipation for it 2/5. In my opinion this book was "RUSHED" What a let down!

I do adore this series and I have followed it from the start. The author has now brought her characters and the story into the swinging 60s. The Pig & Whistle is due to be closed for the first time for refurbishments, even the bombs of WWII couldn't keep the place closed! Peggy and Abel are due for a well-deserved rest and are off to the US. Family members, well if you have been following this series you know there are plenty of them, and they are all doing their own thing.
The author has created another fabulous book and it follows the loves and lives of those who are at the centre of the Mulberry Lane series. As always there are more characters coming into the story, this is something that is inevitable as her characters grow up and find their own partners and then expand their families.
While it is a time of happiness there are also several underlying problems, one of which concerns Peggy and has some consequences that I didn't see coming. The way the author dealt with this was excellent and it showed how this large family rally around and cope with changes to their circumstances. It brings worries out in the open and makes people confront things that are bothering them.
As the next generation of Mulberry Lane children is getting older, they also have their own worries, life and love are something that some of them are having to deal with as well as their futures in a world that is changing. The 60s brought many changes and the author has brought some of these into the story. Opinions and expectations have altered over the years, women are able to have more freedom in career choices and the history of movements in the US is brought to the forefront.
The author does such a wonderful job of bringing the importance of family and friends to the heart of her stories. This is a book that excels in the sense of family, community and friendship. Another fabulous read that is full of shocks, and surprises and there are a few routes that I didn't expect. This book kept me addicted from the first to the last page as a have all of the books in this series. If you are a fan of historical romance and fiction then this is a series to add to your list. If you are already reading this series then you are in for another treat. I would definitely recommend it.

Another Mulberry Lane book here some of the characters have either been left out of the names are totally wrong again. Peggy's family - Janet & Ryan's son was called Ryan in book 7 and in book 8 was Jon, Pop's daughter was called Meg in book 7, Sarah in book 8 and now Cathy in book 9. Maureen & Gordon had another son called Matty in book 7' he totally disappeared from book 8 onwards, Tom and Rose also had,another son in book 7 , he never appeared again. Consistency is not good - what is the point of proof readers and publishers if they cannot get the characters correct. Reads would be so much better if the consistency had been correct. Would have given 5 stars of characters were correct.

I read all the books in this series enjoying each a little more then the previous one. Although each contained its fair share of illnesses/accidents and recaps of events from the previous it didn't take anything away or my enjoyment. I would suggest reading them in order.
There are many characters but in my opinion the main character would definitely be Peggy. Peggy is loved by almost anyone who meets her.
In the reading of each book you get to see each character grow as they face life's challenges and work through them with the love and help from friends and family.
I hope there will be additional books following the "new" generation.
I highly recommend the series.

This series is brilliant following the lives of the Pig and whistle pub and the family that run it also how a close knit community have survived the war years and beyond

Brilliant
I have read all of the books about Mulberry lane and I have been thrilled reading about the families growing up. Such a fantastic read from book 1 to reading the latest book 9. I hope Rosie might write book 10 she certainly has left it open to find out how the lives and loved eke out.

Great tale
This whole series has been so great and filled with so much love and passion. I sure hope there will be more in this series. Rosie is a great storyteller and I highly recommend this series and her other books as well.

Lovely saga
This is a great series.The characters become your friends. Rosie leaves you wanting to know where they are going next.
