Nerds Who Knot #5

Unbonded for You

Rate this book
Surrogate needed. $100,000 compensation.

I always thought that when I got pregnant, I’d be happily bonded and ready to start a family.

But my mate left two years ago. Unfortunately, the bond that ties us didn’t. I need to have it surgically removed if I want to stop aching for a man who will never return. The cost of the surgery is $50,000. Being a surrogate would cover that.

The only problem is, it’s difficult for an omega to become pregnant if they’re bonded to someone else. I’ll have to take a high dose of Doxum. The side effects are terrible. Most omegas have heat-like symptoms and a desperate need for affection.

To make matters worse, the alpha who placed the ad is my type in every way. He’s older, nerdy, and incredibly kind. I worry that I’ll beg him to care for me, even though that isn’t how situations like this work. Or even worse, I’ll let myself develop feelings for him.

The last thing I need is to ache for another man who doesn’t want me.

Unbonded for You is a hurt/comfort romance with MPreg, knotting, and romantic trips to the bookstore. It’s the fifth book in the Nerds Who Knot series, but it stands alone.

Omg, my heart...

Yall...

Read this. I don't care what else happens but you really should read this one. I inhaled it and wish there was more. Also, this stands up as a stand alone book, you do not need to read the others before this one.

Ok in here we have Thomas, an omega who was preyed upon and bonded to a paedophile. I'm not gonna lie, I was so happy that someone in a book was actually called out for going after young teens. Too often, it seems ok to target the teens sexually with nothing happening to them. Lev gets caught and put in jail for going after someone even younger.

Unfortunately, because of the bite bond, Thomas cannot touch another alpha and does not have the money to get the bond broken. When he sees an ad for the surrogacy, he jumps at the chance.

Sebastian, the alpha who put up the ad has also had a rough life. He was bonded before but it was to a horrible omega. He thinks no one would ever want to be with him but he wanted kids.

These two have an instant attraction and decide to stop taking the pills that allow an omega to touch another alpha. But the best thing happened, they did not instantly move in and run off into the sunset. They took a year to get to know each other.

The emotions in this was done so well that I felt them and I am a tough old biddy.

I hope this gets an audio as I will be so happy to listen.

Something about Amy Bellows books just work for me! Even if they aren’t the best I can’t get enough of them haha. They are short, easy, cute books that you can feel the chemistry between the characters in.

Thomas and Sebastian were cute together and during the whole book they just made me smile.

This was definitely the book to end the night with after my miss with “Show Me Wonder”

This is borderline a 2-star read for me. I liked the first half, but at the 50% mark, I got bored. We get a whole chapter of pinochle. And an abrupt end to a very short-lived surrogacy agreement. And a couple time skips that I don’t really care for (1 year at 83% and then another 3 months at 93%).

I would have liked them to have spent more than 4 or 5 days together, especially in Sebastian’s case of completely altering his life based on those few days. But, I guess they did get acquainted via email before the book even started and we just didn’t get to see that. It’s like I read two epilogues for a half written story. And now I’m annoyed all over again and am bumping this down to 2-stars.

3.5 rounded down

I thought this was going to be a 5 star read for me, I was really enjoying the hurt/comfort between Thomas and Sebastian. 🥰

Thomas was preyed upon when he was younger and ended up falling in love and bonding to a pedo, he’s been cheated on multiple times and been mentally beaten down by his ex who left 2 years ago.

Sebastian was previously bonded to someone who only wanted him for his money and was even repulsed by his appearance ( telling him to ‘just get on with it ‘ and keep his clothes on when they were intimate ) when they broke their bonds his ex had a list of reasons why he was a bad partner and that led Sebastian to believe he’d never be cared for, never be wanted by someone, he still wanted children so he started his search for a surrogate.
. . . .

I was LOVING this until I got to around 70% and I saw that they still hadn’t talked about their growing feelings towards each other and it kinda continued to go downhill from there. Because they did eventually discuss their feelings but by that point it felt like the author was just trying to wrap things up, I didn’t get to Thomas finally get his bond removed, I didn’t get to experience his emotions of finally being rid of the feelings he had to deal with for 2 years after his ex left. Didn’t get to experience Thomas and Sebastian dating to see if they would be a good match, which I feel very robbed of considering Sebastian thought Thomas only liked being with him due to the medication he was taking to try to get pregnant, there was a lot of build up and no pay out. There’s a one year time jump that tells us they dated and got pregnant and Thomas is moving into Sebastian’s new home.

It felt like I only got the beginning of a story and the whole falling in love and seeing how good things can be with the right partner was completely skipped over, we only get to see interactions while Thomas is on medication. 🥲

And apparently Thomas’s dads didn’t want anything to do with him after he bonded to his ex, he was warned about him and because Thomas didn’t listen they didn’t want him in their life anymore SO WHY did Thomas ask them to show up on moving day so he could have their blessings with his new partner ?? It was awkward and completely unnecessary, would’ve made more sense to have them slowly reconnect over time, they didn’t even know Thomas had gotten his bond removed so wtf 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am sad for what this could’ve been, I liked the beginning but then it took a turn, the ending is cute with them having a baby but I feel like the meat of their relationship was completely skipped over and ultimately I’m left unsatisfied.

✄┈┈┈┈
My ratings always reflect my enjoyment of the story. Just because it aligns or doesn’t align with my tastes does not mean it’ll be the same for you. These are just my rambling thoughts so try reading it for yourself !

Will expand upon once I feel better but a few points so I won't forget:

- Was very cautious about the surrogacy romance, because... surrogacy is already an ethical nightmare, especially with some of the extras the worldbuilding throws in. But surprisingly, I thought this book handled it in an okay way.

- Didn't care about the time-jumps

Overall, probably my least favourite of the series but not bad.

Edit: Honestly... I don't think I have more to say. I thought this was an interesting addition to the series since I was really interested in the worldbuilding Bellows executed here, although I have to say that it does seem to me that there is a couple of inconsistencies throughout the series - especially where the scent-glands or the lack there-off and the people's ability to bond are concerned. I mean

But yeah, had pretty good time with this romance and this series overall, I feel like I will be reading more from Bellows in the future.

eh. i kinda feel bad bc i'm obsessed with Amy Bellows' writing but this one was just meh. something was missing, and i'm sad this story wasn't giving that fluffy, sweet feels Amy's books usually do.. & i don't even mean that this was an angsty book, bc i'm a sucker for angst, more like this was just bland. meh. :c
despite my overall opinion of this book, i still liked some things, especially their shared book obsession.. c,:

The good
+ Their stellar communication
+ Sebastian asking for consent all the time
+ The physical affection between them
+ The honesty about their feelings
+ Sebastian taking the sacrifices he asked of Thomas and his body very seriously
+ Their shared obsession with books
+ Sebastian being so romantic
+ Sebastian's romantic gesture at the retirement home
+ Sebastian easily accepting Thomas' choice to date for a year before getting bonded
+ Sebastian

The neutral
o Where was Sebastian's other dad in all this? Did he know his husband was harrassing and threatening his son? Also I'm low-key disappointed

The bad
- Thomas' dads made a mistake treating Thomas the way they did. They were the parents in the situation and should've taken their responsibility and been the ones to reach out to Thomas first. So I don't think Thomas' alpha dad had the right to treat Sebastian with that much hostility, considering he hadn't even been there for his own son for years

Quotes
x "I definitely want to touch you, among other things." "Like what?" "Oh, um, you know." "Do I? I think you should describe what you want to do to me." "I want to read with you on the couch in my library."
x "You can have as many hugs as you want. Think of me as your own personal hug dispenser."
x I think some people are just like unrequited bonds. You have to cut them out of your life or you'll keep aching for things they'll never give you.
x "Well, the books may have been a mistake. I bought you all my favorites. I thought you could give me a list of your favorites too, and we could read through them together. A book club for two, if you will."
x This man bought me bookmarks. What could be more romantic than that?
x "It may mean you have to stop spending this much money on books." He recoils in horror. "Surely I can cut back on my spending in other ways."

This book was adorable. Both characters were very genuine, and they talked a lot, even about the difficult topics. And I really liked how romantic their dorky romance was. They absolutely deserved each other. Would definitely recommend as a sweet comfort read.

After the loss of a lifetime, it all seems so impossible. Unless, that is, you’re a character in an Amy Bellows novel. Then your HEA is right around the corner.

If she writes it, I read it. I don’t make the rules, I just live by them. I can’t wax any more poetics about Amy Bellows without sounding like a broken record. Number one fan? That’s me.

Sebastian and Thomas are so soft and so sad, having nothing to lose (because they’ve already lost it all) and everything to gain. Coming together by happenstance, broken pieces fitting perfectly, they build the life they’ve always dreamed of.

She writes characters other authors dream of. In 50% less pages she writes the kind of novel that very few will every manage just once. If you’re a reader who lives for the characters over the plot (which is still absolutely bangin, don’t get me wrong) then Bellows is your woman. Plus god tier spice? Nothing could go wrong.

After I finished the fourth book in this series my soul ached for the next and this was exactly the balm it needed. Amy Bellows is the author of my heart.

Featuring :
✔️ A/B/O
✔️ mpreg
✔️ surrogacy
✔️ hard parental relationships
✔️ grooming (off screen)
✔️ second chance at love
✔️ healing from trauma

Can you be the surrogate he needs without losing your heart?

I love the Needs Who Knot series! I have been waiting for this book. It is just delightful! Everything I have come to expect from Amy. It is a sweet, sexy, joyful romp. Yes, it has some heavy topics. But they are dealt with in a way that is respectful. I fell in love with Sebastian and Thomas. I felt their pain, their hopes, their joy. In short... I became fully invested in their lives. This story proves that not everything is about money; that sometimes love really is the only answer. Get ready for charming residents of a retirement home, pinochle, board games, and lots of sexy times. I am sure you will love this book as much as I did. You need to Get. It. Now!

This was probably my least favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed it. Sebastian and Thomas seem perfect for each other, given how much they have in common, but I disliked that we saw more of them together when Thomas was on the Doxum, then when he wasn’t. It was hard for me believe Thomas feelings for Sebastian during the first half of the story since the drugs altered his emotional state.

The premise for this book seemed so good, but I just became super bored with the whole unbonding process. I absolutely loved the cut-bond stuff in The Bond-Cut Omega but it just didn't work for me here.

However, I still gave the book 3 stars because Thomas and Sebastian were the most adorable men in the omegaverse, I swear. Sebastian was this awkward, clumsy alpha who previously bonded with a guy who constantly put him down and eventually left him because he was too clingy and boring. While Thomas was a nerdy omega who had been preyed on and bonded by a pedophile which left him in a ton of pain. Thomas wanted to dissolve his bond but couldn't afford it, so when the opportunity to become Sebastian's surrogate fell in his lap, he jumped at it. They both entered the arrangement with the notion that they would be able to have a child, afford Thomas' unbonding process, and end the arrangement as friends. What they did not expect was to fall in love in the process.

Sebastian was honestly the kindest alpha to Thomas, and he just pretty much gave Thomas the world on a silver platter. I loved that he was constantly thinking about Thomas and making sure that he was 100% okay throughout everything. Sebastian was the Consent King. 👑

“He was wrong, you know. Whatever your mate said to make you feel unable to accept a genuine compliment from me. He was wrong. You are very desirable. If you don’t want me to tell you that, I won’t. I want the next month to be comfortable for you. But I’m not telling you pretty lies.”

I really enjoyed their story, and I thought they were ridiculously sweet together.

However, the rest of the story kind of fell apart for me. The unbonding conversations with the doctor were very hard for me to follow, and I felt like it was a lot of unnecessary hemming and hawing. Also, all of the parents were just meh. Where was Sebastian's omega parent? I think it's strange that with all of the nuances of the omegaverse, we can still have asshole parents. Like why can't you just accept your child's choices? Ugh.

Another thing that kind of bugged me (mostly because I adored Sebastian) ...

When I found out I was pregnant five months ago, Sebastian was euphoric. He wanted me to move in with him so he could take care of me. But back when I got my unbonding procedure, I promised myself I’d date an alpha for a full year before I moved in with him. I didn’t want to break that promise to myself. I told him he had to wait a little longer.

Why didn't they do the year of dating before Thomas got pregnant? Poor Sebastian just wanted to take care of his pregnant omega, and he wasn't able to until Thomas was pretty far along. I did like that they dated for a year before they moved in and bonded, but I just wish Sebastian had been there for the beginning of the pregnancy. I mean, I'm sure they spent the night together, etc. during that year, but I'm talking about the daily domesticity. Anyway, I just felt bad for Sebastian because I fell in love with that dorky man. 😂

The ending was sugary sweet, and I loved the baby's name, so it ended on a high note. I just loved The Bond-Cut Omega soooo much, so this one fell a little flat comparatively.

Bad*** Omega and sweet-as-pie Alpha!

Yay! Another Nerds Who Knot book! This is the series that introduced me to Amy’s writing and I’ve been hooked ever since. Amy completely redefined the ABO genre for me and I still stand by that!

Unbonded for You is a sweet story that starts with alpha Sebastian paying omega Thomas to be his surrogate. Sebastian wants a kid. Thomas needs money. A perfect business relationship, right? Except that the two find that they have a lot in common - including awful past relationships - and they can’t help by start to feel more for each other.

I loved this book! It’s classic Amy with an obstacle that seems impossible to overcome, two men who find themselves madly in love, some really important life lessons, and ALL of the feels. Sebastian and Thomas are really lovely from the start and I was totally rooting for them the whole time. I liked that the obstacle to the relationship in this book didn’t get too dramatic or ever feel like it was going to drag on. In fact, the pacing was just right and kept me engaged the whole time. I loved each guy’s journey to finding their truth and being with each other so much. I also loved how Thomas stayed true to himself and stuck to his guns. He is not your typical omega at all, which is one of my favorite things about Amy’s writing.

By the way. I’m obsessed with Thomas’ game shop! I shared descriptions of it with my partner who said, “Why doesn’t that exist in real life?!?” (Maybe it does, but not for us and we’re jealous!) I especially loved some of the side characters that are introduced through his store and what they added to the story and to Thomas’ character in particular.

I can’t recommend this book enough. This book does stand alone from the rest of the series. If you want to read more, I will say - this book released in 2023 and the first released in 2019. There has been a LOT of growth in Amy’s writing, so there will be a noticeable difference in that regard, but that first book has all the things that I still love about Amy’s writing to this day.

Thanks for the wonderful series, Amy! :)

Sweet quick read

I have not read all of the books in this series, but it can be read as a standalone. Thomas is a bonded omega who we find out was actually bonded to a pedophile, don't worry he only pops up for a very brief moment. Both the absence of his bonded Alpha makes it difficult for him. In addition, he can't stand the feel of another touching him, so he is touch starved. He wants to get the unbonding procedure done, but it is very expensive, so he answers an ad about being a surrogate. Sebastian is a very sweet Alpha who's Omega unbonded from him because he couldn't stand how "clingy" Sebastian is. Both of our MC's our gun shy because neither feels that they are ever going to find someone that will love them, for them. Thomas starts taking a potentially toxic drug Doxum, so that he can stand Sebastian touching him. When they realize that they do care for each other & want each other. Though Sebastian thinks its all the drug. So he decides to stop taking the drug & see where things lead. Sebastian is also having issues with his father who keeps threatening to fire Sebastian if he doesn't fall in line. I loved seeing him stand up to him and become his own man. What I would have liked is spending a little bit of time during the year time jump. We go from Thomas agreeing to getting the procedure done to him being 5 mths pregnant. I would have liked that initial connection. We do get to see Thomas reconnecting with his fathers. Then we jump 3 mths and we have a baby, though we do get some of the labor, & then the book is done. That was my only real issues with the book & would have given us a couple of more chapters.

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

This book has broken my six-in-a-row-dnf-streak, so thank you for that, dear author ‼️

3.75 stars

But… not finishing it was unfortunately a close call. Fortunately, though, a certain turn of events (closer to the end) made me keep reading and I’m happy about that because I ended up liking it and even smiling at the end. And I plan to check out the rest of the series, for sure.

It’s my first read from this series, and my second book from Amy Bellows. I must admit, I liked “Snuggle Season” more. It was sweeter, more to my tastes. “Unbonded for You” didn’t manage to get me in my feels, the way I love while reading. Sorry to say that, but hurt/comfort trope in this one felt forced and in-your-face. Maybe because I don’t like comparing current partners to exes, especially if it’s constant. It gets tedious, makes me annoyed instead of sympathetic. And unresolved exes issues is strong in “Unbonded for You”.

However, the world building is interesting, conflicts are satisfyingly resolved and reading is easy and smooth. And my dnf-streak is over! (I hope 🙏)

This was such a lovely read. I especially appreciated the kindness which both Sebastian and Thomas have in their complicated situation. Both have been abandoned by their mate, leaving them insecure and lonely, but they still try to approach their surrogacy agreement in and open an thoughtful manner. I loved spending time with these characters and the writing has such a wonderful mix of heart, humor, and empathy - you can’t help but be invested in Thomas and Sebastian’s story. My favorite thing was how purposeful Thomas is once he realizes he and Sebastian have feelings for each other apart from the surrogacy arrangement. How he wills himself (and Sebastian) the happy ending they deserve. It’s a really gentle and lovely romance with amazing characters, lots of books, and a beautiful ending for Thomas and Sebastian. I absolutely loved it, a great addition to the series.

Great addition to the series!

I loved Unbonded for You by Amy Bellows. It's the fifth book in the Nerds Who Knot series. I loved Sebastian and Thomas's story. I loved their chemistry and how they met by Thomas agreeing to be Sebastian's surrogate and then their feeling evolved from there; I loved their trips to get books, visit the people in the assisted living houses to play games with them, and how much happier Sebastian is after he stops working for his father and allowing him to control his life. Unbonded for You is another great addition to the series. I read this book using the Kindle Unlimited program.

Audiobook review

Thomas and Sebastian both want and need a second chance for different reasons. After Thomas gets vold feet, Se. bastian is very understanding and they truely connect and they both get what they need and want. Some of the side characters are really likeable on their own and give the story an extra sprinkle I found this a good listen with nods to contemporary issues. And at the end we get a sweet baby girl, because yes this is a Mpreg.
While this book is partm of a series it can be picked up as a standalone.
Lance West did a good job in 'translating' the book to voice and made it so that I was finished before I knew it.

Beautiful

Sebastian and Thomas are two men who have suffered horribly in their past relationships.
It takes them meeting and becoming intimate for the purposes of conceiving a child for them to realize that they're not broken, simply damaged.
Together they help one another heal and accept the truth that the issue was their former partners, never themselves.
They chemistry between them was instantaneous and I really appreciated how self affirming the intimate moments between them was.

Wonderful

What an absolutely sweet read. Low on the angst, high on the feels.

Both Thomas and Sebastian had awful mates in the past. Each had something the other needed. Once they got past thinking their feelings were only a result of medication, it was so sweet to see them fall in love.

Amy Bellows has really created such a unique world here. I have loved all of these stories and each has had its own special feel. This one was so lovely and the bond Thomas and Sebastian created was beautiful.

An easy read but it makes me truly wish for a /5 star option. I've give this a 3.5 ALMOST 4 just because the characters are SO sweet. I think this is one of the more "feel good" stories I've read in awhile and I'm a fairly prolific reader.

I absolutely LOVE that one character owns a game shop. I love that the author obviously knows games and was able to speak to the board game/ttrpg culture in a realistic way.

I love the retirement community relationships - and to know what that is about you'll need to read this book.

Love the story as much as I love nerds

I must admit that I’m a bit biased because I married a nerd myself and 36 years later he is still there for me. I love the characters in this book but the way Amy Bellows tells a great story is a big part of why her books are automatic reads for me. She tends to stick to a certain type of story and yet she manages to write all of them so differently. I have yet to read a novel by Ms. Bellows where I didn’t immediately fall in love with the characters and their situation. This book is no exception.

This is a sweet story about two people who have experienced past hurtful betrayal, and not let that destroy their future. Sebastian and Thomas are both sweet, smart and emotionally mature. They enter into a surrogate contract that becomes more for both of them. I enjoyed watching them honestly confront their developing feelings for each other, without fake histrionics. Along the way there was plenty of well-written romantic sexy times. Which Amy Bellows does so well!!

Bellows does it again

Amy Bellows has the skill to take a fairly simple premise and make a reader need to finish a book in one sitting. Her characters are so lovely, flawed, human, and relatable that you root for them. Thomas and Sebastian are both so brilliant as characters. I’m sad we’re leaving this world behind (for now), but this was another wonderful read by one of my go to authors.

Beautiful

I love the connection these two seem to have, but I also wanted more. Their online conversations at the beginning would have helped us see just how much they'd already gotten to know each other. Then it went pretty fast from surrogacy to not to a relationship where they're pregnant. It felt rushed at times, I guess, and lost a little of the love I've felt from the other books in this series. Still a good read.
