Sometimes love is worth the journey.

WILL
No amount of military training could have prepared me for the chemical reaction that took over my body when I saw her for the first time. The second she set those emerald eyes on me, I knew I'd never be the same. But she's quick to remind me that she doesn't date. Well, me either, but that isn't stopping me from pursuing her like my life depends on it. The problem...I have only two days to convince her I'm not like the coward that broke her heart and that what we could have is worth fighting for.

SYDNEY
It took months to finally feel happy and secure after the last time my heart was stomped on. That's why fictional men are better than real ones. Am I right, ladies? No heart crushing activities possible. But just as my romantic side gets with this plan, in waltzes one very persuasive Marine, who exposes my weaknesses and shows me how a good man treats a woman. Although, none of that matters because he can't stay. And all real men, even those with real six-pack abs and dark chocolate eyes, are to be avoided. What I've rebuilt must be protected...no matter how tempting that one Marine may be.

Will has always been the play boy in the group, the extravert who knows how to charm the ladies - but that all changes when he catches sight of the fiery red head, with the striking emerald eyes, stumbling her way around with an arm full of books.

From the moment he sees her, he knows that his life is changed. So he decides to persue her, giving it everything he has. Will is a marine due back at base to prepare for their next deployment and only has two days to convince Sydney to take a chance on him.

The problem is that Sydney has sworn off men, and no matter how Will makes her feel, she knows that feeling is dangerous. With his handsome face and the way he treats her, he has the potential to ruin her. Once Sydney finally gives in, the possibilities that can occur during Will's deployment looms over her head and she all she can do is pray that he will come back to her.

My thoughts:
So this is a prequel to a series I've been reading and focuses on one of the friends, Will, of the main character. The novella itself is short and incredibly sweet. I loved getting to know Sydney a bit better. I also loved seeing who Will was and how he interacted with Sydney and in general. On the surface, this is a beautiful story about love and dealing with life as the partner of a marine, but since I've read the main series, @authoralexandragrace completely and utter broke me with this one. It's heart wrenching and so sad when you put it into perspective. I highly recommend this book with or without the series!

This book is such a beautiful, romantic story.

I don't normally read military romances, having a Marine as a father and being a military brat myself. I did for Ms. Grace, though, and I'm so glad.

The inst love connection between the main characters is just so nostalgic of being with and/or finding your first love. My romantic heart loved this entire book. Also, I want to make some fudge now.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will preface this by saying that I don’t read a lot of military romance because they just make me too sad. But I’m so glad I took the risk to read this one, and I will definitely be reading the other books in this series.

Normally, the instalove trope doesn’t work for me; it usually feels cheesy and forced. But in this case, the author makes it feel as natural as breathing. I love how one look at Sydney had Will turning away from his playboy ways. I love how Sydney made Will fight for her, and how eventually he melted down her barriers. I loved the opposing family dynamics between the two partners, and I loved their past relationship history.

The writing style of this book was engaging. I loved the inclusions of the journals and letters. I also loved a dual POV story, and this author did that really well. Finally, the cliffhanger ending was done beautifully.

Overall, this book is a solid five stars. I can’t wait to find out more about Sydney and Will’s story.

I read 92% of the book in one sitting and just had a chance to finish the last few pages. Even though this was just a prequel and not the full book, I don’t think it sparked enough interest in me to read the actual series. I found the writing a bit too cheesy/ unrealistic with how quickly and deeply the 2 main characters seemed to fall for each other and how one dimensional her ex seemed. Their meet cute (bumping into each other as a pile of books fall) was also very conventional but overall it was a nice, quick, feel-good read.

A Journey Worth Taking
A Novella Written by Alexandra Grace
Fiction - Novella
Published March 11, 2023

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This novella is a prequel to the author’s The Journey Series. If you haven’t yet read the three books in the series, this novella is the perfect one to start with. If you have read the series, you definitely want to read this prequel.

This novella tells the romance between Will and Sydney. Will Mason is a marine who has always been a flirt, a player, and a person not looking to make a commitment in a relationship. All that changes when he meets Sydney Norman. He is instantly smitten with Sydney. What follows is an old fashion courtship led by Will to capture Sydney’s heart.

The novella is a quick read that is as sweet as the fudge mentioned quite often in the story.

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Journey worth taking is a true heart melting love story between Sydney and Will, two side characters in the journey series.

While reading this book I had to frequently stop because I wasn’t ready for it to end. I also had to take breaks so I didn’t ball my eyes out knowing how their love story ends.

I love how Sydney is a strong independent woman who doesn’t need no man. Yet along comes Will who won’t take no for an answer. His charm and determination are what every woman dreams of having.

For a closed door romance Alexandra aced the sexual tension throughout the book. This is a great start to the series and is definitely a brilliant start to the series.

READ IT!!!!

A Journey Worth Taking is a beautifully written and light-hearted novella.

For Will and Sydney, it was love at first; like a written in the stars, finding your soul mate kind of love. This story was funny, truthful, and heartwarming, with just the right amount of tastefully steamy moments. It has it all!!

I don't know what I was expecting when I picked this book up, but I was pleasantly surprised. It flowed well and was easy to get into.

I highly recommend A Journey Worth Taking!! Alexandra Grace, I am desperately needing more from them.

I thought it was a great love story and just flowed really good. They really have that one of a kind relationship that we all dream of and as much as it is heartwarming to read about it is also heartbreaking because we know how that ends. Seriously I am in love with that series and I am so invested in those characters.

This follow Will and Sydney’s story. It’s told in dual povs.

This book had me feeling all the feels
- dual pov
- Insta love
- Military romance
- Prequel
- Novella

This week I had the honor or reading A Journey Worth Taking a prequel novella to her Journey series and it was the sweetest whirlwind romance! Full disclosure I have not had the chance to read her trilogy yet, but I can tell you i immediately added it to my Amazon wishlist after finishing this book. However, not having read it in no way hampered my enjoyment of this one.

This story was AMAZING! This prequel novella instantly had me adding the remaining stories on my TBR list! I had a really hard time putting this book down, which is why I read it all in one day! I gave the story 5 stars on Goodreads.

Love is hard and most of the time unexpected. Will is a Marine and plans on serving indefinitely. He isn’t looking for love, and has been enjoying his carefree lifestyle. He’s good at flirting with no plans for commitments. His friends like that he can draw the women in and then not worry about what’s next. That is until he’s walking down the street and sees Sydney for the first time. There is something that just draws him into her and makes him instantly change his mind on relationships.

Sydney has sworn off of men and dating. When Will offers to help her pick up and carry her book returns to the library she figures he’s just one more guy to avoid. The problem is she doesn’t really want to avoid him. He’s a gentlemen, a romantic and pursing her with such force that she can’t help but be drawn in. Her question though is whether or not he’s really in it for he long haul or is she just another hook up in another town. She decides to go slow, even though he could be deployed again at any minute. When he agrees to go at the pace she has set she realizes maybe he is for real.

Their love story happens quickly, but is sweet and filled with so many romantic gestures you find yourself just rooting for them both. You want love to win, but more importantly you want them to realize that it is something worth taking risks for.

This book was so short I didn’t want it to end. It’s a prequel lol. I loved Sydney and Will so much I wanted more of their story and am looking forward to seeing their journey in the series. Sydney was spunky and stood her ground but sometimes when it feels right you just must give in. I literally read this in like 2 hours so it really is short. Will was great and I loved how he was willing to change his ways so quickly once he met the right woman. It was the perfect Sunday afternoon read.

I really enjoyed this look back on Will and Sydney's journey after reading books 1-3 about Jackson. Alexandra Grace delivers the sweet love story of book-loving college student Sydney and Will, a military hottie (swoon!) home on leave. Their time is short--way too short--but Will is able to sweep Sydney off her feet with fudge and flowers. Don't miss this beautiful prequel, and watch for Book 4 coming soon.

pulled at my heartstrings

Such a great read cannot wait to read more of Sydney’s story. This book gives you some insights on what it’s like being the one waiting for a military member and falling in love with one. The trauma Sydney went through and how Will broke those walls down.

⭐️5/5 | 🌶️ 1/5 | Military Romance | Insta-love | Meet Cute | Dual POV | Closed Door | Banter | Prequel Novella

I know this is just a prequel novella, but I had to let this shine on its own because the heartwarming love story of Will & Sydney was just so poignant and sweet that it took my breath away. A story of two people taking a chance at an otherwise crazy journey of finding each other and trusting where their emotions take them.

I love how their meet cute came about, with Sydney carrying a stack of books to the library and an oopsie moment. Sydney is our very cautious FMC who swore of men due to how her last relationship ended. She is working her way thru college to be an accountant and loves romance novels. Will, is a corporal in the Marines, very flirty and swoony, former playboy and ultimate wingman for his best friends; he doesn’t date, mostly does one-night stands with being in the military. He seems to be taken by Sydney and became persistent on convincing her again and again to go on a date with him, despite the fact that he is on active duty and is only on leave. After much convincing, one thing led to the next and we see their love story unfold.

Will was the epitome of a swoony book boyfriend. The effort, the sweetest words, the handwritten letters, a man who can cook, and how observant he is. I loved everything about him! He was relentless in his pursuit of Sydney, laid everything out on the table, and had so much hope that their love story would endure the hardships of their situation.

Sydney was definitely a spitfire. I love how she kind of just blurts out responses to Will during their banters unexpectedly that even catches her off guard. She’s very sweet and thoughtful and I loved how considerate she was about Will being cautious and taking his time telling his best friends about her. She unfortunately doesn’t have the best relationship with her family and Will’s parents welcoming her with open arms was just an emotional moment.

This is definitely a whirlwind love story worth reading. Although it ends on a cliffhanger, it’ll make you jump right in to A Journey Beyond.

In “A Journey Worth Taking” by Alexandra Grace, readers are treated to a delightful tale of love and uncertainty. The story centers on Sydney, an intelligent and spontaneous redhead with a determination to earn her accounting degree, and Will, a charming Marine known for his easy-going nature and knack for flirting. Playful banter and a touch of mischievous charm marks their initial meeting, setting the stage for a romance that blooms in the most endearing ways.

Sydney and Will breathe with life. Their personalities are vivid and fun. Sydney’s spirited personality, coupled with her Irish upbringing and strict religious background, adds depth to her character, creating a relatable and compelling protagonist. Meanwhile, Will’s affable demeanor and determined support provide a perfect counterbalance, making their interactions a joy to witness.

The plot brings moments of lighthearted flirtation with the looming shadow of Will’s impending deployment overseas, and it creates a sense of urgency and passion, reminding readers that even amid promising love, there are challenges that must be faced. The novel flows smoothly, pulling the reader into the heart of Sydney and Will’s journey full of delicious fudge. I need to try it sometime.

Alexandra Grace’s writing style is nothing short of enchanting. Her prose is simple, yet it carries a charm that captures the essence of the protagonist couple and the beginning of their romance, evoking emotion with her words. The beauty of the story shines through, making for an engaging and immersive reading experience.

“A Journey Worth Taking” is a novella that is sure to warm the hearts of readers. With its well-built characters, skillful plotting, and beautifully simple prose, Alexandra Grace has created the perfect tale to start the series. This book and the entire Journey series are an absolute recommendation. You won’t want to miss it.

A Journey Worth Taking is the novella that sets the stage for Grace's Journey series. It was recommended that I read it prior to A Journey Beyond, so I did.

Sydney Norman is a young Irish woman who is almost finished her studies and keen to be done so she can get started on her profession. In addition to her studies, she also works part time at the bank. She is an avid reader, and after her last relationship ended poorly she's sworn that all future boyfriends will be found exclusively within the pages of her books.

Will Mason is a Marine on leave for the weekend. He travels around the globe, trying to enjoy life as much as possible. He is always looking for new adventures to share with his buddies. He doesn't do relationships. He's never been interested in one. Until he sees Sydney.

This book is a beautiful love letter to all those who appreciate romance books, and know that our Prince isn't real but still dream of him anyway. Against the odds, Sydney and Will find each other and share something special. Their love and passionate for each other is intense and enviable.

Their story ends on a cliffhanger, which is likely explored further in A Journey Spared, the first full length book in the series, but I cannot confirm as I have yet to read it. I can say that the author's writing is sweet and loving and I am hoping that her characters find their HEA.

📕BUNNY’S🐰 REVIEW 📕

Book rating: 4 / 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice level : 0

Let me just say as a military spouse I normally stay hella clear away from any books that are military tropes as I get enough of that in my daily life. And they can be cringey.

BUT, this book had me in a romantic chokehold. Normally I am not one who eats up a story about a fast paced romances, this book however is an exception. It had me feeling like I was experiencing first love for the very first time. That passion filled, immediate kind of love where you can not get enough of each other. Their love was soul capturing and just captivating. Normally books with one spice can’t hold my attention but this, this book continues to be the exception. I can not get over how amazing the MC is and he is every girls dream fanfic boyfriend for sure. As the story is told, it felt like I was reading a fellow military spouses diary or hearing the story directly from them.

I did get tired of hearing the word marine on repeat but I get it, its a trope. I am very excited for the next book. However when you personally experience your spouse going overseas on a deployment… It is our literal worst fear to get that call. The months when they are gone and deployed, words can’t express how hard and lonely it is. I claim that I never experience the call our MC got. And I am claiming in book 2, that its not an end and they will be reunited together happily.

Received as an arc and all opinions are truthful and solely my own. Thank you for the opportunity 🖤

With love,

Sydney has sworn off men after her last relationship ended badly. She's just trying to finish her college degree.

Will is home on leave. He doesn't date, but something is different with Sydney. Can they really start a relationship in just a couple days and have it last while Will is away?

Those who have read Jackson's story have an idea of how this turns out. If you haven't read his story, it's a great start to it. Will and Sydney's story is sweet and emotional. This walks us through the difficulties of loving someone in the military.

This shows a little about Jackson before his accident that is prominent in Jackson's story. I like that we get to see him that way.

I can't wait to read more of Sydney and Will's story. If you haven't read any of Jackson's story, you will want to after this.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. Thank you for sharing this story with me!

I went into it completely blind and found the story to be written very well! I’m usually not a fan of couples meeting and falling in love so quickly, but the way they met and the love that Sydney and Will shared was so honest and straightforward. I love that they didn’t hide anything from each other and how easy it was for them to just talk about their experiences and be themselves. I loved the notes included throughout the book as well. Who doesn’t love a hand written letter?!! I had a feeling that something was going to happen in the end and that cliffhanger definitely has me not so patiently waiting for the next book to come out!

I don’t usually read novellas, but this one by Alexandra Grace was perfect. It is exactly what you need in a novella…introduction to characters, great story and a cliff hanger to keep you interested in the next book. It’s a military romance, which I’ve read quite a few of lately. The story of Sydney and Will is as sweet as you can get. Their meet cute was adorable and even though it was insta love, it totally worked! Will was the playboy Marine and Sydney was cautious and had been hurt, but together they found a love for the ages! I have a feeling we are in for some tough times coming up in future books, but this one was just made me so happy! I can’t wait to read more from Alexandra!

This is a prequel novella about Sydney and Will. She's a little broken from a past relationship and hesitant to give Will(a hot Marine who doesn't give up) a chance. I dare you to not fall in love with these two. Although it's short (it's a novella, duh) it gets us where we need to be, which is unfortunately a cliffhanger. Book 4 comes out September 29th, but I recommend reading books 1-3 even though book 4 is an interconnected standalone. I'm honored to be have an ARC of book 4 and you will not be disappointed.

As a prequel to the Journey Series, I was really impressed with how well this focused on Will and Sydney’s introduction to their romance. When they meet, the two are not prepared for the feelings along the way. The author has given us a beginning that leaves us wanting more. What I loved the most about this book were the characters. I am already obsessed with Sydney’s character, I could definitely see myself getting along with her! I cannot wait to see them in book one!

I really enjoyed this book! I loved their instant connection, even though Sydney tried to deny it. Will never gave up, and all the sweet things he did for her made me want to fall in love with Will. I’m always a fan of the Dual POV and loved seeing both their sides, and I really enjoyed Will’s letters . A perfect love story !
Thank you to the author Alexandra Grace for providing me a copy! Very much looking forward to the rest of Sydney’s story!

Beautiful book.
This is a romance book that is so relatable to so many people. From the bad breakup to healing yourself to finding love again.

I adored this book and can’t wait for more!

"You're going to be the end of me," I whisper.
"Then, you might as well go out with a
bang.”

The banter between these two at the beginning was so sweet and relatable. It’s hard finding love again after a bad relationship.

I love Will so much. He’s such a great MMC.

Ahhh I can’t wait for more 🤍🤍🤍
