Boss in the Spotlight

Rate this book
Ajax Doukas – aka Mr. Hotness of the Year – might be an A-list movie star, but he’s also one of the neediest assholes I’ve ever met. And he’s my new boss.

He tends to burn through personal assistants as fast as he does the fuel in his fancy cars. Nobody can manage him for more than a week before breaking down, or sleeping with him, or both, but he’s on the verge of signing for a major Hollywood trilogy and it’s no surprise that the producer wants him to clean up his act.

That’s where I come in, and there are huge benefits if I can do two things - keep the details of his life on track for the next two months, and stay out of his bed.

Should be easy, right? I’m so not his type. He likes them meek and obedient, and I’m anything but. There’s no way he’s luring me anywhere.

My impending move to Australia is about to get financed AF, and my fave charity will also get a mega-donation before I leave, so I’ll definitely take a shot at wrangling Mr. Hotness.

I just have to keep my head on straight, stay immune to his oddly vulnerable charm and puppy-dog eyes, ignore his zero-filter snark, and reply NO to every wayward suggestion he makes — no matter how much he makes me start wanting to say yes…

Boss in the Spotlight is a standalone romance with an HEA. While it's part of a series, each book is a different couple and can be read on its own.

Well, that was funny and embarrassing at the same time!

I liked the story and finished the book quickly without many pauzes. Think only sleep let me take a break between reading.

The neediness in this book was funny and sometimes almost embarrassing. But I loved seeing a different side. Often the men are positioned as the stable, having everything in control and not so emotional types. This was different. Still a rich and beautiful main character, but also vulnerable, needy and clumsy in certain circumstances. And Sage: the patience and tolerance…

The story just read really well, with a time line of just a few weeks. The book had me smiling often, so that is always a good sign.

4 stars!

Great story, stand alone but with characters from earlier books. Nice to stay involved in characters from yesteryear in this way.

Ajax is a famous actor and womanizer. He has already devoured several PAs because they all fell for his name and slept with him. Grant helps him get a new PA; his soon-to-be sister-in-law, Sage. He puts a clause in her contract that she will receive a big bonus if she works for him for 2 months without sharing his bed. That's no problem for Sage. 1, she is not his type at all and 2, Sage doesn't think Ajax is that great. Because apart from a sunny character, Ajax is especially needy and he is used to others who look up to him. Not Sage! She gives him tit for tat every time he goes something outside the boundaries she has set.

A wonderful story full of sassy comments and the realization at Ajax that he falls for his PA but now for real. He sees a future in which Sage plays a major role, but how does he get Sage to see this too.

Sage is young but knows what she wants. And even though she doesn't want to fall for him, it happens. But she is also realistic and knows that after the 2 months they are both on different sides of the world.
Ajax, a clown who keeps his true emotions to himself. Always aware that cameras are aimed at him and therefore busy with his appearance. The funny situations that arise because Sage doesn't fall for him right away are a big part of the story.
Highly recommended.

I was immediately taken in by this story of a handsome movie star who can't seem to keep a PA, because he keeps sleeping with them, and a young woman who has her life planned out, at least for the next year or so, until her sister's boyfriend asks her to take a temporary job.

Sage is planning a backpacking trip around Europe and then has a job lined up in Melbourne. She has two months before she leaves and a live-in job as the assistant to Ajax Doukas can't be that hard, right? Even if it is 24/7. She just has to check emails and keep his schedule up-to-date, oh, and order his groceries, run lines with him when he can't sleep, time his beach sprints, and post to his Instagram account... It doesn't take her long to see that he is completely helpless when left on his own. His schedule is blank, and his emails haven't been looked at for weeks. On top of that, his priorities change on a whim and he doesn't understand when she doesn't have something done that he wanted because he took her off to do something else - like shopping for leather pants and boots so she could ride on the back of his motorcycle. The weird thing is she finds herself actually liking him, well, except for the endless nicknames he makes up for her.

I think you'll like it. Enjoy. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

I enjoyed Boss in the Spotlight: A billionaire boss romance Book 3 of Billionaire Boss. I love Sage, she is a firecracker. She agrees to be the PA for Ajax for two months. The money is too good to resist but the draw to Ajax is too much. He can be demanding and a bit if a jackass. But Sage doesn’t take crap. They end up in a complicated relationship that gets worse when you’re rated in a news story about Ajax with a screw me factor of zero. Unfortunately, mean comments come in and a picture of them kissing. Figuring out who is responsible is top on Ajax’s list. He’s ready to admit he wants more with Sage but they have the obstacles of her going to Melbourne and his filming scheduled. Is it possible for these two to have a future together? This was a sweet story. It was a bit longer than I usually read but I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.

ARC Review of Boss in the Spotlight by Janie Grey
* * * * *
Another edition into a series with a great trope, tons of tension, connections to old and familiar favourites and more drama.

Ajax needs a little help.
Sage needs the money.
With a little elbow rubbing and friendly connections, Sage lands the job working under Ajax...professionally only, never the bedroom. There are challenges to be sure but none were prepared for the emotions and growing feelings between the workaholic stunning hottie and his straight-as-an-arrow new employee.
Drama!

A good read to get through the afternoon. Sage was very blunt and it was nice to see a change in character from most heroines who are more positive and flighty. Love the connections to the previous characters of this series and how it all just ties it in together.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Sage and Ajax. He's an actor who is in dire need of an unflappable PA. Sage is getting ready to head off for a backpacking trip before she goes back for school. He sister and her boyfriend suggest she be Ajax's PA. She tough, opinionated and not easily pushed over. But as they work together they realize the like spending time together. But his past may bite them before they can begin.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this book.

This was an interesting concept, one I've seen in quite a few books already, but the author did a great job at putting her own twist to the story. The characterisation of both Sage and Ajax was great. I liked the way the author gave Ajax all the symptoms of ADHD without naming it; I could see myself in the way Ajax's mind worked. It really felt comforting.

I really loved this story. It stars Ajax who is a bigtime movie star who has issues with organization and emails. But inside he is adorable and he gives his new assistant Sage some big challenges. Sage is a new college graduation who is leaving in two months to backpack through Europe but first she takes on the jb of Ajax's PA because it pays very well. She is so not impressed with Ajax and it makes Ajax have to work hard for her heart and I loved that about this story.

This was a wonderful boss/employee romance with an age gap and with a big time movie star. Sage is sassy and Ajax was such an awesome guy that he charmed me and Sage.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I loved the first two books in the series. So I expected quite a bit. But it was anticlimactic. I was waiting for something to happen and realized, oh no, we’re done. That was a little bit of a let down.

Ajax is so needy. I don’t mean that in a negative way. As soon as you want to strangle him, he charms you.

Sage is emotionallly strong and super patient. She’s practically a saint in the way she deals with Ajax.

I wish there was more of an epilogue but I think that is more about me than the writing.

With all of that said, I did really enjoy it and can’t wait for the next one!

I received an ARC for my honest opinion.

::Shakes head in frustration:: This was supposed to be staying the same and being consistent with the other stories! Instead I got ok vibes from this book and not a ton of chemistry from Sage and Ajax. Normally in romance you catch the connection immediately and hold onto it, understanding that both characters are good for each other. In this story, I didn’t sense this at all, in fact it felt like Sage and Ajax didn’t like each other period. They didn’t hate each other, just tolerated each other and were grateful to each other. There wasn’t any stolen moments, heated encounters or anything that even hinted they might like each other, not until later on in the book and it was Sage who admitted it first. It was only then that you get the first moment of connection with Sage and Ajax. They act differently to each other and want to get close to understand the other better. If you ask me, this should have happened earlier and it should have gave glimpses that they might be feeling something for each other. On top of this, I found Ajax to be needy, vain and annoying throughout this whole book. If I’m getting annoyed by the hero then there is something wrong. I shouldn’t be feeling like this about them. Sage I could handle a little more but her grouchiness, annoyance and comments got old after a while. She was too negative and he was too naive and had his head in the clouds so you can see why it was hard to figure out if they really liked each other or not. When they finally decide to act on their feelings for each other, you get one magical night of it and then it’s business as usual like nothing happened. This is where, again, it was unclear if they truly liked each other or if they were just getting the physical attraction out of their systems. There wasn’t many vulnerable moments between the two of them in the book and that emotional connection lacked because of it. Ajax kept up his public persona in the whole book so I couldn’t tell who was the real Ajax which kept me wary the whole time reading this. I would have wanted so much more wining and dining, intimate moments and emotional connections with both of them. It’s funny how none of them even hinted they could be falling for the other until the very end when Ajax professes his love to her but even that fell flat. I didn’t even get the vibe that he was falling in love, not even from Sage. It felt like it just happened and I guess in many ways it did. I would have wanted more times in the book where you are in their heads and they are just wracking their brains over this revelation and to have that moment when it all clicks into place and they realize they love the other. In this book, it just came out as a statement with no emotion. Overall, the amount of frustration and lack of connecting with the characters is what had me give this book a 3. I couldn’t get past all that and if the hero and heroine struggle to have me connect with them, then this warrants a lower grading. It’s too bad because this had a lot of potential but I came out on the other side feeling unsatisfied and frustrated. Here’s hoping the last book will make up for this one and the short story that comes in between.

Boss in the Spotlight is book 3 in the Billionaire Boss series by Janie Grey. Janie Grey is a new author to me and after reading this book, I definitely want to read more, both from this author and of this series. That being said, I can assure anyone who hasn't read the previous books in the series, that this is a standalone book.

The book is set is New Zealand and follows Alex Doukas and Sage Corlett. Alex is friends with some fellow NZ billionaires and Sage is sister to one of those billionaires partner, so it is easy to see the connections with the rest of the series. Not only is Alex a billionaire and a smoking hot movie star, he is also known to be a womaniser and notorious for sleeping with his personal assistants. Sage has been suggested as Alex's PA by his friend, in fact, Sage is offered a big cash bonus if she doesn't sleep with Alex.

I liked both Alex (even if he was a bit high handed) and Sage. I really enjoyed their character development and their romance. Sage is definitely a relatable heroine to read, she is very down to earth and has a no nonsense attitude about her that I appreciate.

Sage has a short break before she goes off on a backpacking trip, then back to school. Somehow she's convinced by her sister and her sister's boyfriend to take on a short gig as the PA to a demanding Hollywood actor. She'll also get a big bonus if she can avoid falling into his bed while on the job. Should be no problem, as Sage is not only not Ajax's type, but she's blunt and tells it like it is, and not about to be seduced by a demanding, needy actor. Or is she?

I love Sage, she's relatable and likable, with an opinionated, no nonsense personality who is driven nuts by her opposite in Ajax. Though he's fun and gorgeous, he drives her mad because he's demanding and needy and determined to have his way while letting her do all the work to keep his ass in line. Their snarky banter, the barely veiled attraction, and the way they finally couldn't resist any longer - Sage and Ajax are all kinds of fun.

As they say, Another One Bites the Dust. If you have kept up with the series, you know this is about 5 guys who have been best friends since they were teens. They are all successful billionaires of their own making. They get together often and stay in touch via a private online chat. In Book 3 we get to read Ajax Doukas’s story. And boy what a story the author gave us. I laughed, smiled and even wanted to bop heads a time or two. Ajax is the “Pretty Boy” of the group. His looks are everything, well they have to be since he’s the Hollywood Heartthrob. But to get the upcoming action packed role, in the series he’s been starring in, they say he has to clean up his image. You see he goes through PA like they are water because he’s needy, bossy and tends to end up with them in his bed. But his friends have found the perfect gal (Sage) to be his PA and help him clean up his act before he returns to Hollywood. Sage is level headed, speaks her mind and has her future planned out. A future that doesn’t include Ajax. But when they offer her a “Huge” payday, especially if she can stay out of his bed, she takes the job. After all, it's only for two months and she is nothing like the “type” Ajax usually goes for.

Their chemistry is electric, their banter back and forth is hilarious and the storyline is amazing. We find out things about both Ajax and his friends that we didn’t know that trust me will only endear them more to your heart. Grab this one up (and the first two in the series if you haven’t read them) you won’t be sorry you did. Can’t wait for book 4 to see what’s in store next for the billionaire friends.

2 Thumbs Up and 5+ Stars

4.4⭐️ Needy actor finds love with a strong, independent woman

As with her other books, I appreciated the reminder at the beginning of the book that it is written in British English spelling & usage. If I didn’t understand a word of phrase, I just looked it up.
I am enjoying reading about the group of friends who find love and getting a glimpse of the relationships as they develop as side characters in each book. In saying that, Ajax is not my favorite of the friend group. He is funny at times, but also quite annoying & so needy. Sage puts up with a lot from him. I am not sure I would have been able to stick it out working for him. She was determined to stick it out & was able to see a different side of him that most didn’t get to see. It was great seeing her put him in his place & not take his crap. I was glad to get a HFN & get a glimpse of who the couple is for the next book. I am looking forward to that & getting to see what happens with Ajax & Sage.

Well, it was better than the last one I'll give it that much.
Sadly I was never really sold on their romance... it started out alright, I kinda liked the slow burn feel during the first half of the book (or thereabouts)... they were good at becoming friends, only then it was like a switch was flipped seemingly out of nowhere going from practically zero interest to "playtime" which then of course felt very scripted and out of place, disappointing really.
Even worse from that point on it was like Sage had a complete personality transplant.. ugh.
Honestly, they would've been better of/ more believable as friends.
Also, why do all of the women have to be so freaking young?!? And all of the age gaps... which is probably why I've been getting a definite Regency vibe, albeit one set in modern day.
Now I'm looking forward to Dominic's story, "shadows" sound a lot more intriguing than "spotlight". Not sure yet if I wanna read Archie's down the line, will most likely depend on whether he gets paired with Gemma or he returns to his schoolgirl...

This is book 3 in Grey's Billionaire Boss series, and I really enjoyed the uniqueness of these characters. Usually, the male lead is the stable, alpha character in romances, so it was interesting, funny and embarrassing for these roles to be somewhat switched. Our main characters are Sage and Ajax. Sage is strong and capable. Ajax is an a-list actor and has the ups and downs you'd come to think an actor of that caliber would probably be prone to have and needs a down to earth PA who won't be pushed around. The more time they spend together the more they come to like each other. A great feel-good romance!

You will love this book if you are into HilArIous banter between characters - both via text and verbal. I was laughing and yearning and guffawing with the author's ability to create tangible, huggable, strangleable characters leap off the page!
Ajax is your typical Mr Right Now, and a celeb to boot. So he knows how to play the game. But having to clean up his image for a new film, he's paired with a new PA - who is apparently Ajax-proofed. Yeah whatever.
They are literally dynamite together and Sage is an absolute firecracker.

No spoilers but I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did - it's on the keeper shelf for sure.

There’s so much to this book! Sage starts out as a PA to Ajax, an actor 12 years older than her. Truthfully, at the beginning of the book Ajax really rubbed me the wrong way. He was hyper, self absorbed, and not the most aware of those around him. However, as the book moved on and Sage got to know him better he started to grow on me, even his countless nicknames for her. By the end of the book I was rooting for them and can’t wait for the next book to see the resolution. I would definitely recommend this book!.

So this was my very first time reading one of Janie Grey’s books and i was honestly not sure what to expect at first . But by the end of the first chapter I was hooked and falling completely in love with both Alex and Sages characters. Not to mention the fact that Boss In The Spotlight just so happens to be the perfect blend of a few of my tropes I love reading such as Billionaire , opposites attract, movie star and invisible girl trope . I tend to read mostly dark romance so it was very refreshing to sit down and dive into a love story that’s not only fun and sexy but one that has me smiling and laughing and rooting so hard . I will definitely be going back and reading Janie’s other books

Good story!

This story was good. Ajax is in need a personal assistant. He is handsome, talkative, and funny. He is a famous actor. He has a soft on the inside that he rarely shows because he is always in the spotlight. He has a great group of friends. Sage is offer a job to work for Ajax. She is smart, beautiful and sassy. She is on a break before she goes to uni. She has a great group of friends too. They started out as somewhat of enemies that turns into friends then lovers. They have to navigate being employer and employee into more. This is my first time reading from this author and I like it. Great work Janie Grey!

I love how this book isn't like the cliche boss/billionaire romance and how he was actually so nice to her. It was so cute to see. Personally, I loved the book to an extent. I love the characters and I love the plot, the nicknames, everything. I kind of read this book forgetting about their age gap and I love how Ajax doesn't have a seriously huge, needed-to-be-controlled ego, he was rather more on the nice and loving side the whole book.

Ajax is an A-list movie star who has a reputation as a womanizer and sleeping with his PA’s, and he has been warned to clean up his image. Sage has plans to backpack around Europe, and with a couple of months before she leaves, she is offered a PA position for Ajax, with an additional cash bonus if she does not sleep with him. This is a well written story which is intriguing, with humor, witty banter, emotions, romance, and is a fun and entertaining page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

excellent and funny

Loved this book, film star would couldn’t keep PA’s, he would just ware them out with his changing his priorities and unearthly amount of work, 24/7. He has two months left before returning to LA, scheduled to complete a film, interviews to do, thousands of emails to do and not enough hours in a day to do them, he hated paperwork, emails and interviews. His friend had organized a another PA with a clause in the contact that he thought he could live with, it should be fun and get his career back on track, life was a challenge.

I think this is an enjoyable read. Ajax has it all, he has a workaholic mentality with very high expectations. Sage is more straight forward than grumpy, I liked that about her. I think Ajax could've been more frequent romantically inclined, I had a sense of anticipation awaiting a crescendo. I love less drama which makes this better. enemies to lovers + age gap + sarcasm = 5 star read

What a brilliant & hilarious read. The sarcastic banter between Sage & Ajax makes this romantic comedy a 5 star winner. He's an A-list movie star who burns through PA's & thinks he's the bee's knees. She takes on the job as his PA & has no hesitation in calling him out on his BS. Will Sage be PA that lasts? I had a blast reading.

I enjoyed reading Sage's and Ajax' story. It was entertaining and made me laugh. While I felt that the love story was happening a bit sudden- one day she is totally annoyed by him and the next everything is completely different, it was still a story that had me entertained.
