A Duke Always Breaks The Rules

Rate this book
Isobel, daughter of the Earl of Montrose, always knew she would have no choice when it came to selecting a husband. Her father would seek a match that would be beneficial to him, not to her. But when she was informed that she was to wed the infamous rake, Lord Rockhurst, heir to the Duke of Avanley, she could not help but be frightened.

A year after her marriage nothing had changed other than her title. Upon the death of her husband's father, she was now the new Duchess of Avanley. A duchess without a duke since she had not received any word from him since the day they were wed.

But her story was far from over, and when a duchess came into her life that refused to take no for an answer, she was convinced into taking matters into her own hands. Now she was poised and polished, ready to take her place in London as the Duchess of Avanley, regardless of her husband's feelings on the matter.

Charles Newberg, the new Duke of Avanley thought his young wife showing up in London was unacceptable, but her stubborn refusal to leave kindled a spark inside him. Faced with a growing desire every time he saw his young bride made him rethink the original boundaries he had set between them. Could he put aside the resentment he felt at his father's interference in his life to give them a chance at love or was their marriage doomed from the beginning?

This is a new author for me. I was looking around for any new books by my regular authors and saw the cover of book 1 and loved it. A good cover always captures my attention. I did my research, like I normally do on a new author and thought I’d give her a try. So glad I did. I have loved the first 3 books. They were such good reads. I am really looking forward to more.

I loved Bella and Charles. I loved he was such a hold out. HAHA. After the others fell you know it was just a matter of time. I loved her resilience and her tenacity. Just a great overall read. Last one to go. Book 5 isn't out until November so such a long way to wait. :(

I would definitely recommend this series. The sex is good. Just when you start getting into a good scene they're done. Short and not super, super steamy but so well written. :)

The hero was forced to marry her so he abandons her in the country and goes back to his life in London. No idea if he was celibate or not. The friends of the wife say there hasn't been a hint of women but then his friend says let's go to a brothel and that was a year later but it never said if he went. In my rainbow filled unicorn loving world, I think he was faithful but no idea but there was no OW drama at all so I choose to think he was. Plus he felt guilty about leaving her behind but he was so mad about being forced to marry. She was one of the sweetest heroines and I totally loved her. She really wasn't a doormat, and the way she was raised is just awful and explains her frightened behavior. But with the help of the wives of his two friends, they bring her to London and help her become success worthy. Very similar to a book I read yesterday so I got confused a little bit. (That one was not as good and it was 'The Art of Reducing a Husband' and it was an ex-mistress (gag me) and two other wives helping her. I really didn't enjoy it as much. But I digress.). When he finds her in London he promptly tells her to go home but she is quite sassy to him and says no. Bravo girl. Of course he begins to be attracted to her westbound 67% they consummate the marriage. Then he gets a letter from his dead Father saying I am sorry I forced you so you can get an annulment, blah, blah, blah and he is mad because he already did it and he was stuck. There's a little intrigue with a runaway bride and hidden secrets from his Father and then HEA.

I really enjoyed this and it was a first time author for me. I will read her again. And as for safe, I choose to think he was faithful that whole year apart. And I still believe in Santa Claus too. Lol. Dreamer forever!

Wonderful!

I loved this book! Charles and Isobel are so good together. An arranged marriage destined by him to fail doesn't stand a chance once his bride and friends hatch a plan. Hopefully next we learn of Ian's fate.
