Congratulations ! You've just earned a scholarship to Rainwash Boarding School, a school that alot of famous actors and politicians have went to and graduated from. On the bus ride there you spot two glowing eyes in the woods moving through the forest near the school .Getting out of the school bus, you notice the school looks like a castle. Inside the school you find a letter in the wall that says" Rainwash Boarding School is really Brainwash Boarding School". in homeroom you meet this teacher named Mrs Simms. She's wearing a monocle and when she walks out you do the most extrovert thing ever and pretend to mock her. You end up with your first choice to either steal the monocle or leave it .If you steal it you get to explore the school and with this monocle you can see hidden messages on the walls and go to different classes and try not to get dermitis which is points added to you and if you get 25 of them you get sent to the detention wing, where their is something waiting on you. That's not all though. Watch out for the big dogs that roam the hall that serve as a hall monitor. This is what you've seen in the forest on the bus ride here. Zombie School is ok. I liked the idea of going to different classes and trying to avoid the detention points thing. I also thought Dr Rainwash was a pretty interesting villain. Although I wish we did learn more about him. His motives actually made sense. I also wanted a little more of the field trip and town exploration story arch. as for the negatives, I wish we got more descriptions of the school and a certain monster. Also this book was really tough to navigate through. Some stories led to the same story arches and it seems that every page that had choices those choices had choices. The term "zombie" is used alot but there not really undead zombies looking for brains. They're actually just brain dead kids that obey anything. Other then that zombie school is ok, not the best but not the worst .I give it three out of five stars .
Now entering my final five Give Yourself Goosebumps reads, Zombie School has been one I haven’t been anticipating. My literal only reason is that the cover is a visual representation of an aneurism—or in other words, this is Craig White’s biggest pile of shit for this series. It’s made me avoid this book for years… until now. The book itself is actually quite good. The main arc is pretty solid and is one of the longest paths of the series, clocking in around 90 pages. I liked the choose-whatever-class thing, as it followed my favorite story format from this series. There’s some neat little paths and ideas thrown in here, and I generally liked the whole subliminal messaging aspect of the book. It’s entertaining and reminds me a lot of Creature Teacher. However, I also have some quick disses: I didn’t like the other arc. It’s pretty minute and doesn’t offer much apart from the whole retaliation group, of which didn’t really go anywhere and was pretty disappointing. That whole path is just super mediocre. Also, I found almost none of the endings to be of note. The only ending I thought was memorable (and it’s actually great, to be fair) was the one where you read super fast to fuck up the bowels (or something) of a monster—believe me, you need context for that one lmao it sounds wild. But yeah, almost every ending was in one ear and out the other; they were just meh, with a handful of really bland ones. And the book itself doesn’t quite reach full potential, and it’s disappointing in that regard. Overall, 7.5/10. It’s pretty good, but it’s not even a zombie story lol—it’s a brainwashing story. Still, it was good; cover is still diarrhea. Now that I’ve gotten this one out of the way… all I’ve got left from this series are ones I’m looking forward to—though not so much Jaws of HellNo.
I've finally read it after looking for years. Particularly because I read that it had more gory endings than others, and the premise seemed cool, a boarding school with zombies.
However, I enjoyed it but it was slightly disappointing. I didn't find many of the endings that bad as it made out to be. My first adventure actually ended as 'good' one.
I preferred the 'keep the monocle' story arc, it was more interesting to go about lessons and try not to go to detention, and see secret messages through the monocle. However, you could only go to 4 classes. You either get an ending from one of these but can't do all 4 classes and have another option going forward (so detention is the other option).
The storyline about trying to escape was okay. Too much of the dog/dogs though. I feel this storyline was a bit too short. As with the storyline with the runaways. I was expecting more from the runaways storyline too, something like in The Haunted School where some of them lost their mind.
So this wasn't my favourite adventure, but I'm glad I finally had the chance to read it.
I used to read this book ALL the time when I was little, and I read it so much that the book wore out and fell apart. I was sooo sad when it was gone (I either lost it or my mom threw it out) and I was searching for it EVERYWHERE (literally for years), but since I was little when I had it I didnt remember the title or basically anything in it. So I am sooo excited to read this again and see what my brain remembers or made up. I can’t believe I found it.😆😆😆🥳😄🤩🤪🤗😊
This is a very fun and entertaining book. There are 2 storylines in this book, one where you try to escape Ranewash and one where you try to survive through your classes. The one where you survive the classes is easily the best story line but the escape storyline is still entertaining. My only complaint about this book is how many decisions just send you to the detention wing. 9.5/10
This book had enormous potential. A few suspenseful scenes are held together well by highly energized writing; there are definitely spots in the narrative that had me on the edge of my seat.
The results of certain decisions seem completely random. I don't necessarily mind this, since it realistically reflects the random nature of life. But what are you as the reader supposed to choose when asked if you remember the last time you fell off a jungle gym? Add to that the fact that this is a decision of crucial importance, and you might wonder why everything depends on your ability to recall a small detail of your life.
Zombie School offers some entertaining adventures, though, and I'm impressed by its creative variety. Give Yourself Goosebumps is a fun gamebook series.
Zombie School is a very well-constructed and unique title in the GYG series, one that probably would have received much more attention had it been published earlier in the series. I probably would have loved it as a kid, being better able to relate to the school setting. The main gist of the story is you find yourself enrolled in a boarding school that brainwashes it's students. You choose the classes you want to take and and if you survive them, you get to attempt escape. The plot is actually pretty involving and a little Orwellian in nature with the "Big Brother is watching" aspect. A lot of the endings are darker than usual for this series, but still have nothing on par with the CYOA endings. The writing is standard for the series and the plot is great. Pick this one up for cheap and read it - you won't regret it!
