When two sisters fall into an abandoned mine, they're led to safety by their grandfather, who then suddenly disappears. When the girls return home, they learn that their grandfather had died hours before their rescue. . .
A boy's parents buy an antique desk and put it in his bedroom. But the boy soon discovers that the desk is haunted, and he plunges into a night of sheer terror. . .
No one can fully explain these events. But in this spine-tingling book, you'll encounter these and many more true ghost stories that have happened to real kids.
I liked these books. I like Allan Zullo and I really like the stories in these books. I think all younger kids (Upper elementary, early middle school) These books are quick reads and quite intresting. (Even if the stories are exagerrated.) So if you like short ghost stoires read these books.
To make my Goodreads account an accurate representation of my reading preferences, I have been trying to sprinkle in some of my childhood favorites alongside the discovery of new series and authors, and one of the series I am doing this with is Allan Zullo’s “true” ghost stories. When I was in middle school, I discovered that I really liked ghost stories and I craved my way through the Goosebumps and Fear Street series by R.L. Stine as well as any other creepy story, I could find in book orders/book fairs, the public library or the school library. This volume, Totally Haunted Kids, tells of nine children and their supposedly “true” ghost experiences, and I have to say, that even as an adult, there are solid stories in this volume.
One thing I liked about this collection is the different tones that the stories had as a lot of them dealt with the lesser explored sides of hauntings, rather than let’s make the target audience have as many nightmares as possible. For instance, there were multiple stories about spirits helping the living, whether because they were lost in a mine or drowning as well as multiple about spirits that just wanted to be remembered, maybe because they were left behind or wronged in life. Don’t get me wrong, there were more traditional ghost stories too like the one where a murder gets replayed on a nightly basis or a desk is possessed by a hateful spirit, but this collection was a lot more balanced than I was expecting for this style of literature.
If you have a child that is interested in ghost stories, this is a great collection to put in their hands. It has a wide array of stories that will keep them interested but will also teach them some valuable lessons along the way. I will be rereading the other collections I have by this author over the upcoming months, and I am really looking forward to it, especially now that I know these stories are much more eclectic than I originally thought. 5 stars!!!!!!!!
This was a decent enough book. I think it's better suited for a younger audience than me but it still is an enjoyable book for anyone looking for something along an easier to read vein.
It also took me more than october to dive into this book again.
I rememeber being 8 years old, my mom buying me this short book and sharing the stories with my little sister in bedtime. The true reason why my heart stays with this short-stories collection.
Not much to say, to be honest. I'm glad I could get a copy from Mexico City, because in Jalisco it was nowhere to be found.
