Loved this book! This was so informational and fun to read. I found the first half about carving utensils very informational. the second half I wasn't too crazy about but I still enjoyed it! The author clearly loves what he does and is very talented. I highly recommend this book for any person who is interested in wood carving and whittling.

This was a pretty good book. There were great (and a good amount) of pictures and clear and easy to understand instructions. I liked the intro and the basics that were covered. This was easy to read all the way thru and didn't make me feel like a dumb blonde for no knowing or trying to keep up with a lot of technical terms. Although I may not remember the distinctions between types of wood until I would actually have to deal with them. I liked most of the projects that were in this book, I would/am most likely going to at least try the majority of them. I really liked the practical projects: poker/fork/walking stick/spoon/spreader, stuff like that that can be used. I definitely liked this book and would read again for "touch-up" remembering. This is a book that made me feel like I've improved on my knowledge and am confident I can now do this. (We'll see how that turns out...) Great reading experience and eager to try. Enjoy!

Every time I start a new group of Scouts on whittling, I pass my well worn copy of this book around. After spending some quality time with this little book, the Scouts have a new appreciation for the potential hidden in branches and twigs.

The book also provides a number of helpful 'outdoors' related tips ranging from knots and animal tracks to campfire recipes to use with carved utensils. two blade Swiss Army Knives are used throughout the book.

An excellent beginner's guide to whittling/woodcarving. It explains how to choose materials, the basics of picking a knife and its maintenance, and provides several projects to get the reader started. I greatly enjoyed this book and look forward to starting on several of the projects soon. A must-have for anyone interested in whittling/woodcarving!
