Ed, Al and Winry return to Central Command, but only bad news greets the Fullmetal Alchemist and his friends. Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes has been murdered - and Second Lieutenant Maria Ross is the prime suspect! While Maria awaits an uncertain fate in jail, the living suit of armor bearing the soul of serial killer "Berry the Chopper" breaks free of the military and goes on a rampage. Now, the mysterious Homunculi must come out of the shadows to deal with the mess before their monstrous conspiracy is exposed. But for Colonel Mustang, Maes Hughes's former best friend, it's not about the truth; it's about revenge...
Hiromu Arakawa (author: 荒川弘) is a Japanese manga artist, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師 Hagane no renkinjutsushi). Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa
Arakawa was born and raised on a dairy farm in Hokkaidō. She thought of being a manga artist since she was little. After graduating high school, she took oil painting classes while working on her family's farm. During that time, she also created dōjinshi manga with her friends and drew yonkoma for a magazine. After eight years she moved to Tōkyō and started out as assistant writer for Hiroyuki Etō. Her debut as manga artist is in 1999 with STRAY DOG. In 2001 she started working on her famous and award winning series Fullmetal Alchemist, that soon gets a successful anime adaptation. "-This seems like the only situation where you would treat him like a child. - There is no need for him to know yet...it would be better for those brothers if nothing disturbs their progress"
This volume was quite awesome and deals with the recovery of the brothers and then they go to central and meet Old friends and then learn the death of Hughes and how it impacts them and how they then find the suspects and there's a big thing that happens with Roy. Its an emotional, gut wrenching thing the stuff that follows and finally the big revelations with who it is. The dirty secrets of the military are shown here. Also something interesting with Barry is going on and the sins are upto something that's not good.
I am loving the interpersonal conflicts and the drama surrounding everything. Is the military really good? Whatever is going on with Roy? How many will get injured in this quest of these brothers? Also very good questions and great art and the emotions here are next level.
Here's more of an intermission episode, setting up future plot points and rising tension, with not that much going on in itself in the grand scheme of things. It still gets pretty exciting once or twice, but not much is at stake and even the one shocking moment turns out to be just the set-up for a punchline.
It also sheds some spotlight for the little guys. There's not a single character in Fullmetal Alchemist that I don't love, even the villains (except Shou Tucker. Fuck that guy.), and it's nice to have even the side characters develop and do cool stuff.
Political intrigues are balanced with the emotional moments of the core cast finding out (in stupid ways, I must say) that one friend has died and another is accused of murder. The creator is juggling two dozen characters in this volume but everything is tight and moves along quickly.
WELL that was great! There were some more really sad moments in this volume but I loved it so so much! I love the way the plot is coming together, there's a lot of scheming happening between all the characters which is awesome. I also love that there are new characters who bring something new to the table! It's all super interesting and fun. One of the highlights of this volume was finally seeing Mustang and his crew in action (they are so professional and badass and awesome!)
No, how to forget this volume, this part in the anime was suffer and pain, and pain. I have the DVD only to see this chapter, the #24 if I don't get wrong. The most painfully anime scene..
Hiromu Arakawa tries to mash up characters into unexpected teams and tandems in this volume. They work in funny and surprising ways. Chopper is definitely the standout character in this volume.
There are just some parts of the dialogue that felt a bit clunky, and at some times I I have to read the pages at least twice to really know that I get what they are talking about.
Overall, it is again a very good volume. This sets yet another exciting climax for this arc.
I wanted you to regain your original bodies, but I also want you to stop this dangerous journey... and... uh... I’m sorry. I guess I don’t know what I really want.
Winry, you’re so nice.
This was absolutely outstanding. It was fast paces, there were reveals, twist, double games, clever deception. There was finally some honesty by some characters, which I hoped to see for a long time. And there was some potential dishonesty, but in a good way. Suggesting that the next volume will be even more exciting.
It seems like no one is safe in getting killed off or dying in this series and that makes me scared. 😅 😅 😅
Yet another character I really liked died and the ending left me feeling maybe ANOTHER character might have died or is about to! I'm so nervous to continue the series despite that this volume was very good! I definitely didn't approve of certain people's actions (looking at you Roy), but goodness are the Elric brothers in DEEP.
I'm truly thankful that Edward and Al have done what they could to keep Winry uninformed about certain things because I really don't want to see anything bad happen to her. Granted, that doesn't stop her from feeling so much emotional pain because the news is out for these precious characters and it broke my heart.
I think another turn of events is I really liked Barry the Chopper this volume. He is a hoot! He has been really fun to see on page and thought the "new character" that pops up was definitely a turn of events I did NOT see coming! (The mangaka is really really really good at that! LOL!)
The sneak peek of the next volume had my jaw dropped!! I don't even know what to think, but I might read the next volume and then take a breather because I'm really nervous someone else is going to die and I just want the characters I like to stay alive! *sobs* (Though I suppose that one villain did HAVE to die, but man, I really liked him!)
Another really good volume, even if it was much more emotional for numerous reasons. Also, there is a wholeeee lot at stake right now!
Otro gran volumen.
