IF you're looking a light, funny GN, you could do worse than Mail Order Ninja. The premise is what it sounds like - Timmy orders a ninja in the mail to beat up the bullies at his school. The execution however, is quirky and fun and had me giggling along the way. A lot of the captions (like bios, likes/dislikes) almost reminded me of Scott Pilgrim though this is meant for a younger audience. A quick, fun read. Looking forward to Volume 2!

***SPOILER ALERT***
If you haven't read this book you will love it, this book is about a kid that is obsess with ninjas.
Timmy McAllister is the main character of this book, He spends more time on his school and on his house and outside. He is a fifth grader with some fifth grader problems he is getting bullied by a gang of bullies and he cant do anything about it. Timmy is having problems with the gang of bullies because the gang of bullies are after his lunch money.
The setting adds to the conflict because i can tell were are they are at and were its taking place. One day he heard an ad in a catalog brays saying "Hey kids!!! Would like to own the world's deadliest NINJA?!" So that's when he got the idea to order the ninja.
The title relates to the book by how it gives you an idea of when Timmy orders the ninja. Two or Three weeks later he got the a box on the mail and without even touching he came out, Jiro the ninja hes been waiting for.
I would rate this book 4 stars because I liked how the author wrote this book but I liked to read the 2nd book so i would understand it more of what going on. I would like to recommend this book for readers that like graphic-novel,funny books, kids who like ninjas and kids who get picked on. I loved this book I couldn't take it off of my mined like for 4 months this book was about a kid that order a ninja to take back what the bullies had done.

So this my first foray into graphic novels, and maybe I just picked a bad one (I just kind of randomly picked one off the shelf since I needed to read one to complete the summer reading challenge), but I'm kind of thinking that they are not for me.
Maybe I should have expected it, but this book was basically about an angsty nerdy boy who mail orders a ninja (who arrives in a wooden crate and then upon arrival, cuts himself out in a blaze of glory), and then said ninja does the bidding of angsty-nerdy-boy and carries out *REVENGE* (this was a very important point of the novel, the *REVENGE*) on all the people who have wronged nerdy-boy - the bullies and popular girls.
I mean, from the title it sounded like it had potential, but mostly it just seemed dumb, and maybe a little like the daydream of any kid who has ever been bullied. But seriously, the revenge bit was a tad overdone, to the point of being mildly offensive. And I know it was probably going for giving the bullies a "taste of their own medicine" kind of thing, but really it just kind of made me think that the kid was a bit of a bully himself since the first thing he did after getting the ninja was go humiliate his enemies.
I don't know. I just wasn't impressed with this, but maybe this just isn't my thing.

The original story is a little revenge fantasy that makes the most of the small space it's got. The expanded version ramps up the jokes and the super heroics. Both are a lot of fun. Kids should love this. Eric Owen has a great sense of movement and action that really moved the story along. There's a drastic change in his style to make it more like other Manga between the initial story and the later expanded version, but both work really well with Elder's story.

A fun, short graphic novel for the younger set. Although I did think that some of the jokes/references would probably go over the heads of younger readers. It does have some interesting devices at work, such as a little fact sheet for each character introduced into the storyline and a short infomercial in the middle of the story.

I can tell this series is going to be a lot of fun. There are some bits of humor in this volume for adults as well to enjoy. The entire premise is absurd, but awesome, all the same. I mean, who wouldn't want their own personal ninja to take care of i.e. rude sales people at the store, neighborhood bullies, or the annoying, most popular cheerleader-types who went to your high school?

Children's graphic novel. Read this together with the second volume (it's part 2 of the same storyline). The kid-appropriate violence in here is limited to action shots (ninjas flying through the air, swords drawn), with clay sculptures being slashed and characters pinned to the wall with ninja stars, but no blood/gore.

A really fun and exciting read. The story elements - plot points, genre tropes, format features - are solid and respectful to the graphic novel/ninja genre but poke some well-intention (and wonderful) fun at it as well. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Hilarious little graphic novel on a subject right up my alley: NINJAS! Timmy McAllister orders a ninja through the mail to put the school bullies in their place. Sight gags and puns abound in this silly first installment. Looking forward to part 3!
