The first comprehensive field guide to freshwater fishes - covers all 790 species known in the United States and Canada. More than 700 illustrations, most in color, show identifying marks. Also includes 377 distribution maps and additional drawings of key details.
Freshwater Fishes is a great book if you like to fish and want to know more about the freshwater fish you can catch in your area. It also describes smaller freshwater fish species that live in the water. I like how the book shows a map of where each species can be found, the body of water they are found in ex. pond, lake , a brief description of the fish, and similar looking fish species so you dont get confused with your i.d. My only complaint is that it would be helpful to know more about the fishes breeding habits and diet. The drawings of the fish are good but I find that photographs are even better so this book should be updated with those. Otherwise great book!
Field Guide to Freshwater Fishes: North America, North of Mexico (Peterson Field Guide Series) by Lawrence M. Page (Houghton Miflin 1991) (597.092973). This is a simple to use guide to identify freshwater fishes with respect to both common and scientific names. My rating: 7/10, finished 2/10/2010.
