Restored!: God's Salvage Plan for Broken Lives

Rate this book
The OT book of Ruth tells the story of two women who experienced a level of distress--painful and desperate situations--that threatened to overwhelm them. It also offers an amazing blueprint of God's plan for restoration--including our own. Each "distress" God allows in our lives can become His divine brush stroke, adding color, maturity, depth of character, and a deep and eternal beauty that will be ours forever. God promises to restore what sin, and the effect of sin, has destroyed in our lives. If distress is your story...and restoration your hope...this book is for you.

This is one of the most interesting studies of Ruth I've read in that it deals primarily with Naomi--how God's love is evidenced in ways she could have never imagined. The end of Ruth states that God redeemed, restored and sustained Naomi and the author points out that this truth for Naomi is true for all who believe in Him. The book was very readable and includes many illustrations to make the author's point. There are personal/discussion questions for each chapter. The book was valuable to me as a supplement to another study I'm facilitating but it could also be used in a small group study as well as for personal growth. I had never heard of this author but will certainly be on the lookout for any more of his stuff. This book was distributed by Our Daily Bread Ministries.

Beautifully written. Provided a deep spiritual cleansing that I did not see coming. Questions are meant to be thought-provoking and challenging. I look forward to more books by Dan Schaeffer.

Schaeffer gave a lot of wonderful new insights into the story of Ruth to help readers see how God can restore our broken lives. He analyzed Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz to show us the good and not so good character traits of each character. He especially showed how God used Ruth to encourage Naomi when Naomi was at her most upsetting stage of losing her husband and two sons. We don't know why this tragic event happened, but Schaeffer shows how God will always be our redeemer. After you read this, you will feel the hope of God and His will for your life more clearly!

Favorite Quote: "Naomi, apart from God's work in her life, had no hope. She had been left a destitute widow. Alone, she might have been able to sustain herself physically, although it would have been difficult. But we are not just biological animals. We also have a spirit that can be crushed and emotions that can be overwhelmed if we get too discouraged. What Naomi needed as much as food and shelter, maybe even more so, was love, security, and most of all...hope." (P. 133)

What an excellent book. God is always in the process of restoration. Here and there I am sure each one of us needs a little chipped off here or something molded there. More kindness, more of so many things we could list.

If Ruth had ignored what God was telling her, both her and Naomi would have missed out on so much! I cring when I think of all the times I have felt God telling me and fighting it. What did I miss out on? Not any more. This book was a blessing to read, and will continue to be.

The whole thing was super relatable, you aren't sitting here reading with everything going over your head. The study questions are fantastic, you can't help but pray to be restored. What an immense blessing!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest opinion and review.
