In the 20th century, three social revolutions--industrial, sexual, and technological--challenged the religious convictions of many. John Paul II's teaching on the Theology of the Body was his response to the resulting societal shifts. J. Brian Bransfield explores John Paul II's reactions to the challenges raised by these revolutions. Within this context, Bransfield then explores how Theology of the Body insights lead us to live the fullness of the Christian life.

If you want a taste of what this book has to offer, take a look at some of the quotes listed in the 67 updates I made while reading it. Wow! This book has so much to offer and is so very well written.

This is definitely a unique contribution to the exploration of John Paul II's theology of the body. The thorough handling of the context and background was great. I had also never seen the connection that Bransfield made to the Beatitudes. His working through of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the virtues, and their connection to the Beatitudes is unbeatable!

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about how to be human with integrity. Very accessible writing!

This book is the second installment of my continuing, semi-avocational (because I'm a Protestant) interest in figuring out what's at stake in John Paul II's theology of the body.
