This was a fantastic read. It was wonderful, to hear Steve's voice again in my mind while reading this. The stories that was in the book were not new to me. I had read or seen, the animal documentaries that was talked about in this book. It was just nice, to spend a few days reading about Steve again. The pictures through out the book were great as well. You can see, why Steve loved the wildlife he saved during his life.

This book is a very good book to show how Steve Irwin lived his life and became known as the crocodile hunter. The book talks about his very early years when he was trying to impress his dad by catching all sorts of animals and usually it didn't work out. He was in a couple deadly situations just trying to make his dad proud his dad was his hero. A big part of his story was growing up and being around all the different environments him and his dad were around all their life. Steve was almost more interested in all the animals and parks then his dad was and his dad started everything that Steve grown up around to make him be interested in this life form. He talks about how he saves almost every animal you could name that lives in Australia in this book. I was drawn to this book because I remembered the life he had and lived as the famous crocodile hunter before he died from a stingray. I think that almost any age group would like this book if you like saving, catching, or growing up animals he did it all and he loved his life because of it. His life story is in this book and I think knowing someone new or even just knowing more facts about them is a little good for everyone.

When Steve and Terri Irwin started their filming, I am sure they had no idea how influential they would become in the word of conservation and just educating and entertaining people. After Steve's tragic death, I missed the shows a lot. Steve's enthusiasm for the animals always made me enthusiastic as well. I cannot watch him and NOT smile. It always makes me happy. So, this book was so nostalgic as well and educational for me. Between the wonderful pictures, and personal insights, it gives you just want you want and expect. I also love that Steve's work continues at Australia zoo and I continue to be amazed at how powerful his message has been.

Think about Australian animals and kangaroos and koalas come to mind. The range of animals is so much greater. Some I hadn't given much thought to were crocodiles and snakes.
People have trouble dealing with large predators. Perhaps there is a distant memory of being under threat by them. The response is to kill them and, in so doing, to kill the ecosystems in which they live.
Crocodiles are one of those animals in Australia. Steve Irwin and his family are on the front lines trying to educate people about these ancient animals and how to live with them. Some things are so simple such as not feeding them or going swimming with them.
The book is full of looks at Australian wildlife and countryside. It is fired by the enthusiasm that was Irwin's trademark. It tries to find a better future for both people and animals.
This book is a fast read yet deserves slowing down to take a better look at a country many people will never have a chance to visit. It gives a much broader view of who Steve Irwin was and the incredible work his family has and is still doing.

Steve Irwin is such an incredible inspiration for not only those who love and respect animals but also a pure example of qualities necessary in human beings if any real difference is going to be made in relation to improving our Earth. He was passionate about crocs and protecting wildlife as completely as possible (even working to re-educate Crocs using aversive conditioning, allowing them to stay in their native areas without further negative interactions with people - similar to techniques used in US National Parks on bears), he worked directly researching the animals cared for at the Australia Zoo to provide accurate care to endangered species (allowing the zoo to have captive breeding programs leading to release back into the environment) and to provide those animals staying at the zoo to live natural-like lives.

"If we save our wild places, we will ultimately save ourselves" (192) - Steve and Terri.

This book provides readers not only with a better look into the lives of the Crocodile couple but also teaches the readers about passion for wildlife, pursuit of goals (particularly in relation to conservation), and the misunderstandings which plague wildlife and the ways we interact with the animals we meet, at home or while on vacation.

The loss of Steve Irwin was quite literally a loss for the world.
--

"I wouldn't want to live in a world where there were no crocodiles. It would be like removing the river's soul" (123).

"If we can't learn to live with such predators, our future is dismal. Imagine Africa without lions, Australis without crocs, the ocean without sharks or dolphins or whales. Who'd want to live there? Not me! So Terri and I push hard - real hard. Every single day of our lives involves wildlife education. We must teach, spread the word, the wildlife gospel. Crocodiles and sharks are only dangerous to those who make the mistake of breaking the ecosystem's rules" (195).

"We don't own the planet Earth, we belong to it" (196).

"If you can't excite people about wildlife, how can you convince them to love, cherish and protect our wildlife and the environment they live in?" (202).

In The Crocodile Hunter: The Incredible Life and Adventures of Steve and Terri Irwin, Steve and Terry Irwin portray their passion for animals growing up in Australia. The writer's word choice makes this book interesting for the reader. When Steve describes his trip to capture one of the worlds largest crocodiles, he says "a truly magnificent tidal system laced with enchanted mangroves and wetlands" (Irwin 27). We as a reader can visualize the "magnificent tidal system". The use of words such as "enchanted" and "mangroves" really paint the picture for the reader of the swamplands of Australia because they flow better as a sentence than words like "muddy" or "wet". Steve and Terri's use of imagery throughout the novel also gives the book more appeal and makes it interesting. When Steve explains his first crocodile capture, he uses senses to describe how he "sensed the strength and warmth of his Dad's arm feeling for his body" (Irwin 15). This use of imagery shows the reader how cold the water may have been if he was able to "feel the warmth" of his dads arm reaching to try and bring him to the surface. Throughout the book, this sense of imagery gives the reader suspense, thus making this novel an interesting read. One other use of language the author uses in this book is otomanapia effect. When Steve describes his encounter as a child with on of the deadliest snakes on the planet, he says "I thrust my hand through the blades of the grass and grabbed its tail. Whoosh! It launched a strike past my nose." (Irwin 16). This use of language gives the reader some aspect of suspense. The use of these words such as "Whoosh" give excitement by describing the sounds some of these actions make. This provides excitement and also leads to a more interesting read.

The Crocodile Hunter by Steve and Terri Irwin is a great book. It's a great autobiography written by Steve and Terri. I like this book because I love reptiles and I've always liked him and what he does since I was 4. Steve Irwin got his name Crocodile Hunter because he loves crocodiles/animals. This book is about Steve and Terri's wild adventures.

Steve Irwin was born on February 22, 1962. He grew up with reptiles. Where ever he went he was always trying to catch something a lizard or a snake. He owned zoos all types of zoos in Australia. He has all different types of gators that he rescued and brang back to help. Once Steve got married to Terri a cougar vet. They owned the Australian zoo. All the adventures that Steve and Terri had are now together.

I would recommend this book to someone that loves reptiles. I thought it was a great book. I recommend watching the tv show, "The Crocodile Hunter". It was an amazing book that I read and so should you.

I enjoyed this book, though parts of it seemed slightly exaggerated (ie: as a boy Steve recalls "often catching and releasing a hundred lizards in an hour".)
I did like the passion that both Steve and Terri have for animals and the well being of the earth's ecosystems. I miss Steve all over again because he took such an active roll to help animals. Helping animals really was an immense part of his life - and what he did for animals would ultimately help human beings, too.
An easy read and a great book for getting to know Steve and Terri Irwin better.

Own in paperback.

FS: "The Irwin crocodile story begins with my parents. Bob and Lyn Irwin."

LS: "This deep-seated passion has come from the beginnings of Australia Zoo's history, and has created a wildlife "force" which has reached millions of people in every corner of the earth by virtue of Steve Irwin, television's Crocodile Hunter, his entire family, and the staff of the Australia Zoo. The message is simple: love and conserve wildlife."

Crikey! What can I say! I absolutely loved this book. The passion and information and love that it contains is pretty unreal. I should probably say that I really love animals and I watched his show a lot when I was younger. I feel many people don't take steve irwin seriously because they don't see the excitement and passion for animals but instead see what they think are his catchphrases, which is just him. He may of been more than a little eccentric but for me it gave a refreshing change to have someone presenting a wildlife show who sounded upbeat and actually excited rather than calm and almost like they were in a library. I will always remember doing impressions of steve at home to my family and through that it was amazing the amount of information I actually retained about the animals themselves. This book is really no different, it comes from the heart and shows a family who not only worry about animals now but also what might happen to them long after they are gone and how it might affect humans living on this earth. they try to show people that if you respect the animal there is nothing to be afraid of and we can all peacefully co-exist. I really admire the irwins for their conservation techniques and how they are trying to educate others. This book was awesome and I'd really like to find more books/dvds to watch!

Steve Irwin's work was a large part of my TV viewing growing up: barking mad as he was, no one could deny his passion for the animal kingdom in all its forms, and this book, although published several years before his death and missing some of the later aspects of his work before then, is still a fascinating read, divided between him and Terri, it's an intriguing autobiography that chronicles his life, his meeting of her and the crazy things they've done in pursuit of improving the lives of a range of animals (not just crocodiles!)

I read this around the time it was published but it's still good to read, full of some unbelievable anecdotes from the Crocodile Hunter's life story, and really drives home that the world lost a true ecological champion in Steve Irwin...

As Steve Irwin's only autobiography, "The crocodile hunter : the incredible life and adventures of Steve and Terri Irwin", tells a wonderful tale of his life and times written in Steve's own distinct style. From his parent's meeting to the success of the Crocodile Hunter TV show to the birth of Bindi Irwin and to the loss of Steve's mother Lynn, "The crocodile hunter" will make you laugh and make you cry as it shows the inner-workings of Steve Irwin.

I am such a huge fan of Steve Irwin and this book confirms my thoughts. He was amazing. I don't think our two lives could be any different. It just is crazy to think that he was brought up the way he was. He has done so much more than I ever realized for the conservation and preservation of animals. He is sorely missed.

This was a fascinating book about Steve and Terri on their adventures with being wildlife conservationists and how they came to be a part of the Australia Zoo.

There's many pictures to be hand throughout the book, how the Australia Zoo came to be and a dash of humor that only Steve could bring about being his charismatic self.

Highly recommend checking out this book.

As a mother of 4 boys, I could not imagine raising a "Steve Irwin"! Special parents who love reptiles helped raise the great "Crocodile Hunter". Stories from him and Terri of the dangers they faced in the Australian outback and the joys of raising a sweet little girl, Bindi.

It's fun to hear about his adventures and life from him. I love Steve Irwin and this is a nice look into the man that is the larger than life personality that he was. I read this book to my son as he is a huge Crocodile Hunter fan. He says it's the best book ever.

This was so fun to read! It brought back so many fond memories of watching Animal Planet in the early 2000s. It was also very evident how passionate and educated he was in this book, and how his top priority really was the animals safety. The pictures throughout were a great addition!
