The pop psychology craze in America is a multimillion dollar industry. Yet the self-help books, radio programs and magazines that offer advice for solving life's problems can cause as much damage as they do good. Dr. Thurman uses his experience as a psychologist to point readers to the only two sources of advice that are always trustworthy and helpful--God and the Bible.
Thurman goes through every myth pop psychologists tell the world: People are basically good. You need more self-esteem and self-worth, you have to love yourself, don't judge, don't feel guilty, think positively etc...
Each chapter is devoted to one of these myths. Thurman carefully describes which each myth means, the pop-psychologists who champion them and then proves how they are fallacy. He concludes each chapter with scripture the counterpoints the secular "cure" for society.
I gave it two starts because I thought it was OK. Maybe if I was a teenager or in my twenties it would have been new, or even blinding, revelation. But at my age, there wasn't any new territory.
