Yuck. That was painful. I didn't realize this was published by Silhouette which is part of Harlequin Romances or else I wouldn't have downloaded this free book. I'm glad it was a novella, because I don't think I could take much more. Very corny and cheesy and well, just "yuck". The storyline is predictable (although most romances are) and lacked any excitement whatsoever. Dialogue juvenile, Callum a control-stalker type and Gemma an immature idiot. I could go on and on, but I've already wasted too much time. If you like Harlequin, then this is probably for you, but....yuck!
Aussie Callum Austell has been hanging around the Denver Westmorelands for three years and now it's time to go home...but not without his future wife. Of course, Gemma Westmoreland never knew that she was a candidate for the position. Brenda Jackson, once again, delivers classic romance and sex appeal in What a Westmoreland Wants. Callum has been working on Ramsey Westmoreland's sheep ranch in Denver for three years, all the while waiting for Ram's sister, Gemma, to realize that he's in love with her. Gemma has never given her attraction to the oh-so-fine Callum much thought but all that changes when Callum makes an offer that seems to good to be true. Callum wants Gemma on his turf and once she's there, he has her right where he wants her. But Callum underestimated the power that Gemma would have over him. What a Westmoreland Wants is another of Jackson's nearly larger-than-life romances. Jackson's men are way down to earth, successful and fine and her women are no shrinking violets. Jackson's female characters (especially those born a Westmoreland) are sassy and very sure of themselves. I love the fact the women are not trying to figure out who they are as individuals in the midst of the novel; the conundrum comes in trying to find out how they'll fit in a new relationship. Another great buy. Can't wait for Derringer, Bane and the other Denver Westmoreland's.
I'm a Huge fan of Brenda Jackson. Gemma and Callum's story was very romantic in the way of Boy helps best friend sees best friends sister fall in love with best friends sister but can never tell her in fear of scaring her away because of her views on men. I love the Westmorelands and this one was good. Callum's side of the family was lovable. If you have been following the series then you will love this book if you have never read the series then I think you will also like it but I think you will like it more if you understand the Westmoreland family.
I've enjoyed other works by Brenda Jackson, but this one just isn't one of her better works. Little to no tension. Callum is kinda stalkerish. A gorgeous, wealthy billionaire moves in with a girl's brother for 3 years to wait for his 24-year-old virgin sister to notice him before making his move, leaving behind his own billionaire-business untended on another continent? And then once they got to Australia there was no Aussie twang, no real Aussie culture.
Read one of Ms. Jackson's other books. Those are better. This one was almost a DNF. Sorry :-(
Loved this book Callum Austell is a sexy alpha male plus he has that accent ummm I can just hear it and it melts my bones through this whole story Callum has wanted Gemma Westmoreland for three years he has been in love with her she didn't know it but he was determined to court her he gets her to design his home he bought in Australia for her to redo and he could court her at same time she comes back to the states early because he keeps talking about his soul mate and she figure it was someone else he comes after her after he talks to his mom and realises he never told Kate he loved her and she was his soul mate but when he comes after her he sets things straight with her great book found another author that I will have to start reading more of her books
Maybe it’s the holiday but I’ve been in a sappy mood lately and this book hit the spot! We have hot Australian, Callum, pining after the heroine for three years (!) and a opportunity falls into his lap when she needs business and he has perfect proposal: come to Sydney and decorate my mansion!
Gemma is lovephobic. Her brothers and cousins are capital R Rakes and she doesn’t want any part of it.
Of course she falls for the sexy Aussie and though the plot doesn’t have much stakes, there’s plenty of swoony and sexy moments to enjoy. I loved how close Callum’s family was and how enamored he was with Gemma and wanted her hand in his business and in the home.
Can Brenda Jackson just create a husband for me? Her heroes are the best.
Gemma Westmoreland is a force to be reckoned with.
Smart, beautiful and talented with a thriving design business, the only thing she was missing was a love of her own. After seeing how her brothers behaved over the years, she was determined not to have her heart broken.
Callum Austell is an Aussie through and through. Handsome, rugged and loyal to Gemma's brother Ramsey, he'd worked hard to maintain their ranch. His interests spurned a lust even he couldn't resist.
In What a Westmoreland Wants, Brenda Jackson has managed to lure readers into their world with sizzling lines of romance. Readers should be forewarned that this novel is part of a series. The storyline flowed smoothly and the characters were easy to embrace with the vivid details that were placed throughout the story.
A quick read, about two love struck individuals. One who knew he was in love the moment he laid eyes on her. The other is determined not to fall in love and have her heart broken, but can't deny the attraction she feels for him. When passions flair and desires are fulfilled, she must face the fact that she may be in love...
The storyline was repetitive and I had a feeling of deja vu while reading. This story was very similar to others in the Westmoreland series, which seems to keep going and going and going....
4 stars. Swoon worthy. I loved this one. Callum is just my type of hero. He knows what he wants and he has no problems going for it. Gemma Westmoreland is who he wants and he goes out of his way to make sure she knows and it was everything. They are both likable characters and they had really hot chemistry. I liked that this took place in Australia since that’s where Callum is from. That was a fun and different location for this series. The ending was really cute and it was good to see how some of the other couples have been. Overall, this was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it immensely.
Free book from Amazon, I had a feeling this was what it was, but I enjoyed it. Total steamy romance with a hot Australian was a nice twist. Callum has had his eye on Gemma for 3 years never acting on it waiting for his time. She is the younger sister of is very good friend but it has kept him in the US working on the sheep ranch. He comes up with a plan to hire her and whisk her away to Australia on his territory to win her heart. I liked it, easy to read and like a vacation.
A great love story. I was really interested in reading about Gemma Westmoreland's love affair with Callum. I really liked these two characters. This may be one of my favorite Westmoreland romances.
The story started out with a bang but never went anywhere. Gemma Westmoreland's employee has stolen a rather large sum of money from her decorating business and left Gemma in a financial bind. Callum Austell throws her a lifeline when he ask her to decorate his new house in Australia along with fifty percent advance payment for the job. Callum has spent the last three years teaching and helping Gemma's brother Ramsey make his sheep ranch a successful going concern. Mostly he stayed to be around Gemma but now he wants to return to Australia and has come up with this plan to get Gemma to return with him. He proceeds to woo her but must be careful or he fears he will lose her. The embezzlement story doesn't get developed and Cullum and Gemma's courtship isn't enough to make this story interesting. My first disappointment in a B. Jackson story.
The Westmorelands series started off with a good pace but it just devolves as more characters pop up but they don't have personalities that live upto the earlier books in this series. All of the stories offlate including Steeles, Westmorelands feel stale as there are no plot intrigues and twists that engages the readers. This book is a prime example of a creepy H and a h who has grown up into an adult who spit out predictable dialogues with no semblance to any plot whatsoever.
1.5 stars. If I didn’t know better, I’d think this book was a first attempt at a contemporary from an author who writes historical. I don’t think I’ve read that much purple prose in a contemporary since the 80s. So awkward, and neither character was believable. I gave up, even though I only had 40 pages to go. Not sure how I even got that far.
I was fanging for Callum's book during the last. I wasn't disappointed, Gemma and callum were sweet and awesome. I still get a little irked with the 'boys can play the field but it's not awesome if girls do' but this one did it a little ok (still allllmost slut shamming but not quite as bad) Yay! more books!
I did like the heroes devotion to the heroine, however not really a fan that heroine didn't have feelings for the hero for 3 years. For her to not have the overwhelming attraction to hero that he had for her made me not feel like it was all that strong of connection (she did develop'it during the course of the book). Also the story was boring. Np.
I wish that Callum and Gemma had a little more lead-up before they got together. Mostly it was just him saying that she was the one for him but didn't feel the need to explain that to her at any point. But I liked Callum's family and liked the way the story progressed overall. Would have liked an epilogue but I'm sure we'll see them in future books.
You just cannot go wrong with any Westmoreland man. My goodness, where are they? This is just as romantic as Mrs. Jackson's other books on Westmoreland men. Start from the beginning and you will never stop. This is my third time re-reading it. I just cannot get over the Westmoreland Men!!!
Harlequin romance with all the regular unrealistic cliches. Read it in a couple hours; will forget in a few minutes. Not bad for an uninspired story line so it gets 2 stars.
Callum and Gemma had a really cute story. It was love at first sight for him but he waited three years before making his move. As soon as Gemma knew he didn't have someone back at home waiting for him, her feelings began to grow. Really enjoyed this book.
No drama just romance, love and family. I have been entertained and amused by this story that distracts from the terrible things occurring in our country today.
