Keep Calm and Carry On is all very well, but life just isn't that simple. Let's own up and face facts: we're getting older, the politicians are not getting any wiser, and the world's going to hell in a handbasket.
It's time to panic.
Here's a book packed with quotations proving that keeping calm is simply not an option.
Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).
If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.
My sister knows me really well. She knows how much delight I derive from the whole KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON trend – both because it is Britishy and because it’s just funny. So she gave me this book for Christmas.
NOW PANIC AND FREAK OUT
The upside down crown on the top just makes it even more wonderful. :)
The content of the book is fairly easy to explain. Each page contains a quote – a quote about the wild and entirely uncalm, disastrous world we find ourselves inhabiting. My favorite quote came from the very first page.
"When in danger or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout."
There are far too many gems…
"I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened." – Mark Twain
… for me to include them all…
"I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of national emergency, even if I’m in a Cabinet meeting." – Ronald Reagan
…so I’ll just…
"I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes." – anonymous
…put a few in here…
"Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?" – Edgar Bergen
…for your enjoyment…
"I have opinions of my own, strong opinions, but I don’t always agree with them." – George H. W. Bush
…and edification.
"I never put off till tomorrow what I can possibly do… the day after." – Oscar Wilde
:) :) :)
Obviously this book must be read with a tongue in cheek attitude, or one will have a conniption.
Conclusion. A must read for those attempting to live in this wild world.
I loved this book! The book is filled with quotes. Some are funny, serious, and truthful. In the book it tells you who wrote the quote. I'm very happy I found this book because it will be a favorite of mine. I will definitely use the quotes daily. So, if you're quote lover this would be a good recommendation for you! I found myself a few times laughing out loud and other times saying "Isn't that the truth!". But I'd recommend it to anyone. There's quotes on politics, happiness, life, debt, and civilization. The list goes on. Happy Reading!
Never mind keep calm and carry on, 'Now Panic and Freak Out' is an alternative view of what to do in times of stress.
Many famous, and infamous, people offer their views on when things get out of hand, as Alan Bennett says, 'Life is rather like a tin of sardines - we're all of us looking for the key.'
Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde are the two most prolific offerers of advice, along with some quite amusing quotes from one or two American presidents.
OKAY I admit it, I added this book to the list mainly because I'm behind on my reading challenge and needed something I could read quickly. But that doesn't mean that this isn't a book made of fantastic, because it is. Filled with hilarious quotes it will bring a smile to your face (despite the title).
There are some laughs in here, but as an alternative to the British adage Keep Calm and Carry On, it frequently misses the point entirely and features quotes by too many former American presidents. Which is odd, because according to the publisher’s website, they are located somewhere between Portsmouth and Worthing (the latter will probably explain the Oscar Wilde quotes, which are of course always pithy and relevant).
These are the kind of quotes that should be used to inspire someone. These are no quiet platitudes or “take a breath” vapidity; the quotes are the kind you’d use to get someone going and inspired after a tough time.
Funny quotes which suit me perfectly! Definitely have a couple of favourites but don't want to reveal them here. So far this is my favourite of this series, although I haven't read a complete version of any of the others.
Nice alternative to the advice Keep Calm and Carry On. Best quote of the book: "Experience is a terrible teacher who sends horrific bills." - Anonymous
Quirky, witty, and oddly comforting. A fun mix of humor and life advice that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Perfect for flipping through when you need a laugh—or a little perspective.
