I've had this book for quite a while and I've been reading it, shelving it, re-reading parts, shelving it, etc. This is not a "diet" book but more of a mental attitude sort of thing. I liked it; it had good information, and I thought it was insightful in a few ways. Did I loose weight? Not one pound.
The focus is on getting weight loss to take care of itself automatically as a result of training oneself to check in and bring oneself back "above the line" emotionally. Seems to have some good insights about how the weight loss game is really a mental game based on our emotional state, but as with any other book about losing weight you have to still eat less or no results will be forthcoming.
I've had this book for a really long time and could never really get into it. Finally decided to push through and just found that it would not work with my lifestyle, nor fit with my personality.
Every now and then you read something that changes your life forever. This is the book that did that for me. I read this book after having gained quite a bit of weight after quite a traumatic divorce and I can honestly say this changed my life and projected my career in a different direction. Rather than diet, this is more about self nurturing and awareness. Having been a caretaker my entire life, putting everyone's needs above mine, I realized after reading this book and doing the exercises that I had lost my identity and connection to self. I didn't even know what feelings I had and why I had them. This book helped me regain myself back. It brought alot of attention to my mindless eating habits which I use til today. The book does portray life in an idealized world--being a single mother, I don't have the luxury of working "only 8 hours a day, no less no more". So in that respect, while nice to think about, it's not realistic in today's society where the normal work week for many professional people is 60 hours. However, that's just a blurb of the program. It's a constant reminder in the back of my head of what I strive to attain (and should be attaining) regarding connections with others, sleeping, downtime, playtime--basically nurturing yourself. The most fascinating portion to me was reading about the science of the mind and how the brain becomes stimulated and how to reset it. This is where research is right now and so it's still very pertinent and fascinating. This is a book about mindful eating and mindfulness in general. The program is based on years of research. I highly recommend for those who have been on and off diets unsuccessfully. While I don't believe everyone will lose weight because of something essential in here, what it will do for you is bring your attention to things you've been in denial about relating to self care and true nutrition. My mindset changed to a more holistic, natural approach after reading this book, realizing when we eat, we eat to nourish, not to just subsist. This is not a "3day" solution (That's just marketing hype) but a life long program that has its ebbs and flows. It provides another tool in our quest for attaining health. For me, this tool has been invaluable.
I followed the plan exactly and lost over 5 lbs. in three days! I never felt deprived, hungry or any cravings. I am still following the plan and am very happy!
