Firstly in book is explained the Maven terminology: plugin, goal, lifecycle. Some nice, clean and working examples of using Maven. With his plugins Maven can help on building documentation for your projects. Also Maven can be useful with database generation. In same time can help with a server on which you can run your applications(book example Jetty). As this book says 'Maven is not a replacer for Ant, Maven is more complex than Ant'

I read the online version. (I believe that there only is an online version...) I got enough out of it; enough to get started at least. It is a decent introduction. By the end of it, you will at least have a good idea of what Maven is and (kind of) how it works; and if you work really hard and pay attention you might also be comfortable saying those things to other people.
