Second book in Samantha Kane's historical erotic romance series "Brothers In Arms." Having read the first book, I went into reading this one with a differently mindset than I did the first one, which let me enjoy it more and not be annoyed with the too-modern tone for a historical.

This series is basically about a bunch of soldiers who during their time away at war became extremely close with another soldier. They formed lasting bonds that caused them to seek out women who would accept both of them in a romantic relationship. Love Under Siege is about Phillip Neville and Jonathan Overton, whose pursuit of Maggie Trueheart began in the previous book. They had planned together that Phillip would win Maggie (his heritage being stronger) and once their marriage was settled, Phillip would introduce the idea to Maggie of bringing Jonathan into the relationship. When the book starts, Phillip and Maggie are already married, but things aren't going well in their sex life. It isn't long before they finally break through the barrier, and not long after that, Phillip finally tells Maggie about his and Jonathan's plans. Now Maggie must come to terms with this new development and what it means for her, and them. Phillip and Jonathan also must face the fact that they sexually desire each other. But just when things are beginning to really work out for them, an old enemy threatens their happiness and they future they have planned together.

Whew, I gotta say, this book is super, super hot! There's sex going on every which way. I'm surprised it didn't burst into flames as I read it! Samantha Kane definitely has a knack for writing erotic romance.

But while I enjoyed this book - it's sweet, and super sexy - it's one I kinda take with a grain of salt. Because realism does not play a factor. The little author bio in the book says she writes based on a Utopia where social mores are not as important as just loving. And that theme is easily evident in the books. The menage relationship is pretty insular in and of itself and a group of select friends. There's not much about how that affects their lives in restrictive (historical) English society. The book doesn't deal with the realities of what they are doing. So yeah, it's pretty Utopian.

There's also the fact that despite that it is a historical, it's got a very modern feel from the language, to the overall feel of it. When I read the first book, that was what bothered me most. I wanted it to have a more historical feel, but going into this second book, I knew what to expect so it didn't bother me as much. I just enjoyed it for the sexy romance that it was.

And it was a very romantic and sweet book. Maybe a little oversweet at times. There was a bit of an overkill on terms of endearment. The three are always calling each other little names like "my darling" and whatnot. It got one my nerves a little. Too sugary sweet. But it was a good romance. I liked the development of it, how it progressed from Phillip and Maggie, the adding Jonathan, then to Jonathan and Phillip, then to a complete threesome.

Fair warning to anyone considering this book, there is graphic M/M interaction. If that's not your thing, steer clear! But if you like that kinda thing, especially in a menage relationship, I'd definitely recommend this book. It's one hot read!

This book was hotter than the first one I love this series. Maggie loves her husband, Phillip, they have been married 3 months and their is no spark in the bedroom. Maggie also adores her husbands best friend Jonathan and is really happy to see him when he comes for a visit. Maggie suppresses her inhibitions and tries to fulfill Phillips many sexual fantasies. When Jonathan's light flirting becomes more provocative, Maggie realizes that not only does she love Phillip, but she is also falling hard for Jonathan. Mortified and unnerved by her emerging feelings, Maggie refuses to consider bringing Jonathan into their bed, even if it is something that Phillip and Jonathan strongly desires. Jonathan Overton adores Phillip's wife, Maggie. But it is not only Maggie that has captured his heart, but Phillip as well. When his feelings of adoration are returned, he counts himself one of the luckiest men in the world. While Maggie balks at having Jonathan as a third in her marriage bed, she doesn't hesitate to show him independently how much she loves and desires him. Jonathan wants more, but secretly feels deep down that he is unworthy. This was a really good hot sexy book and I loved listening to it. The book was very well read and I loved listening to it the narrators voice was great. When Maggie is attacked Jonathan blames himself, he thinks he is cursed because of something he did in the war. In this book you get to see how close the men are to those that they served in the war with and also you get in update on Kate, Tony and Jason. I love reading menage M/M/F and this book was really good and I can't wait to read the rest of this series and all of their kinky friends.

I had such an inapropro gif lined up for this.

But I refrained because I'm mature.

So book had Jonathan and Jonathan is a tortured hero. We love Jonathan. He is the best.

Again I really liked all the main characters in this, it took Maggie a bit more time than Kate to come around to the idea of having 2 gorgeous men chomping at the bit to give her everything but she got there in the end and when she did? Jesus! Maggie was fire cracker!!

Thoroughly enjoyable and even though the plot was a little thinner this time the important thing was that a plot could be found. We also got to see Kate, Jason and Tony and my very favourite Very! I can't wait for her book.

Fuck it...

I can't not do it...

It sums this series up perfectly...

I'm such a child!!

I'm also laughing like a lunatic!!!

This second installment in Samantha Kane's Brothers in Arms series is about Phillip, Jonathan, and Maggie. I can't say I enjoyed this one more than the others in the series because the characters weren't as likable to me as some of the others. I liked the chemistry between Phillip and Jonathan quite a bit, but Maggie came off as a bit abrasive at times, and Jonathan's eventual emotional meltdown made me roll me eyes a bit.

This isn't Pulitzer Prize winning stuff. This is erotic fiction. So if you're in the mood for something worthy of a Pulitzer, look elsewhere. If you are, however, in the mood to read a dirty story about a hot threesome with likable characters and an engaging plot, you can't really go wrong with this one. So much erotica is focused solely on the sex, and I won't lie and say this book doesn't contain a lot of sex, but what sets Kane's work apart from some others I've read is her ability to actually give her characters personality, and to actually weave a story in between the steamy stuff. I liked this first book quite a bit, but there are a few in the series I will probably be rating higher simply because I liked the storyline and/or the characters a little more.

Contains m/m and m/m/f sex scenes with an insanely high steam factor, so if you're a pearl clutcher, don't bother.

It was what i exactly wanted when i chose this book which was some hot MMF with two male friends turn lovers and a woman up for a sexual adventure.

I always prefer reading about men exploring and expressing love for each other for the first time and their confused emotions and heightened feelings when they go at it!

All in all, it was a quick hot read and i enjoyed it a lot!

The plot is very good, but half the book is full with sex scenes. With too much sex in a book at some point, the tension tilts from hot to boring. The female chara has a few extra pounds on the ribs. Bravo! Not always a Heroine has to be slim.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous. It was just okay. I'm able to go along with all the things that have to be basically ignored from reality to enjoy these books but I have to say that I've already found the fact that this is yet another instance of one man is titled & landed so he must wed and the other man has no such ties so they can embark on this menage marriage with one woman. Do all these guys pair up this way? From the dinner party Phillip, Jonathan and Maggire attend is pretty well populated. Did the tent assignments when the men were all at war determine that one titled and one not shall share? It's book two and I already think this device is overused. I'm hoping for a reprieve in the next books (when I get to them).

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Phillip and more so Jonathan basically hearing Maggie tell them that she couldn't go full on with what they wanted to do and they basically brushed that aside with a "she just needs to be convinced". It seemed disrespectful of her and as if they felt she didn't know her own mind. I know the story turns that she goes with it but I didn't like the idea that the men felt they needed to coerce her slowly around to their way of thinking. It put me right off. I also did a bit of eye-rolling at another happenstance of the guys never having had their love for one another manifest itself until they could get the woman and apparently can't be consummated without her either. That's probably the one thing I find most odd with the series so far.

On the upside, the sex scenes are still very well done and that is a welcome thing. I just wanted more of a story and characters that I could enjoy. As it stands I really don't need to see Phil, Jon or Mags in another story in the series.

Phillip and Maggie have been living as husband and wife for a few short months before Jonathan arrives to live with them. Before Maggie and Phillip wed, she was unsure of which of the two men were courting her. Unbeknownst to Maggie, they both were.

What I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that Maggie was hesitant to become involved in a menage relationship. She needs time to really think about it and the repercussions that the relationship could cause. In other menage stories, you don't tend to find that. Everyone involved tends to fall into a menage relationship as if it's a normal everyday occurrence.

The sex between these three was extremely hot. Although Phillip and Jonathan did not start out being intimate with each other, you could tell that they wanted to be. The author did a really great job expressing their sexual tension. The flow of the story was good, but it just didn't seem to hold my focus.

I really love that Samantha Kane is really able to sell the love, romance, and emotion in her m/m/f books. Often in this genre there is an emotional imbalance between the characters, or 2 are the "main" relationship which doesn't usually work for me as well. However, with the BiA series, there is a wonderful balance the the triads.
Of course, there requires a suspension of belief around some of the greater menage issues, but on the whole it is handled well, and I love the community of men and women being built into this series.

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked Maggie, Phillip and Jonathan and their story was enjoyable and engaging.

Maggie is a properly raised daughter that never expected to gain the attention of a titled husband. Her family has money but don't come from titles and so her family was quite happy when Maggie started to be courted by Phillip.

Phillip and Jonathan are best friends and went through a lot together during war. During war time they (and some of the other men in the fighting) took to sharing women as s way to connect with others and keep some vestige of their humanity during awful times. When Phillip and Jonathan got home, they decided to find a woman they both want, Phillip would marry her and then they'd work on getting her to accept Jonathan.

They actually are both present during the courting (enough that at first Maggie wasn't sure which man was courting her) but once Maggie and Phillip get married, Jonathan goes away for their first 3 months of marriage. Phillip is supposed to be using this time to get Maggie prepared for Jonathan but when Jonathan comes back he finds that Phillip hasn't fared well with his new wife and they're having issues enough in the bedroom as it is. Philip hasn't been on his game (so to speak) without Jonathan being around but once Jonathan shows up, Phillip and he make plans on how to bring Maggie around. Maggie is happy to see Jonathan as she developed warm feelings for him during the courtship period. The men are able to get things working alright between Phillip and Maggie but she balks at the idea of Jonathan joining them. Maggie was raised to see this type of relationship as being a grave sin and something that would be frowned upon by all. Things are helped along when she meets Kate, Jason and Tony (the trio from book #1, The Courage to Love) as well as some of the other men Phillip and Jonathan served with. Kate is the most helpful and gets Maggie to consider the relationship but even then there are some tense times.

Maggie eventually does accept both men but it takes multiple steps as Maggie goes through some intense struggles to get past how she was raised. To be honest, there was a time or 2 I wished she'd stop being such a twit but I have to admit her response would be expected and could have even been much worse. Still, there was a point where I thought she was just nitpicking in an effort to keep from taking the final (and in her mind damning) step. I was actually surprised at what caused her to make her final decision to accept things fully....I actually thought that would cause her to backslide. Thankfully, Maggie does accept things and after that she puts her whole self in to the relationship between her, Phillip and Jonathan. She shocks both men by not only seeing their longing for each other, but also encouraging them to act on their unrequited desire for each other. Yes, as the blurb says, Maggie gets attacked and it causes issues (although I rather felt the drama of waiting for it to happen was more than the attack actually warranted), making Jonathan blame himself for her being hurt. Jonathan goes through some angst and self-recriminations and wallows in his misery for a while. Thankfully, the trio comes back together and Phillip and Maggie convince Jonathan that he's not going anywhere without them. They all make up and the trio starts settling in to their HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked the main trio overall...both Maggie and Jonathan got a little angsty at times but it wasn't too bad and I can't think of any complaints about Phillip. The story was pretty good but I really wish they would have caught the bad guy...he was also in book #1 so I get the feeling he's going to be an issue throughout the series. Overall, this was a good story and I'll probably read more of the series in the future. I'd recommend this story. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator did a good job but the narration speed felt a little slow for my taste. I sped up the speed to 1.25% and it sounded more like regular speed, IMO.

Genre Historical / Menage / MMF

MC1 Phillip Neville
MC2 Maggie Neville
MC3 Jonathan Overton

Storyline
Phillip & Jonathan have been friends for a long time & served together in the war. After their return back to England, they begin courting Maggie but Phillip actually is the one who marries her since he has the better social standing. They hope that after the pair is married for a while to successfully introduce Jonathan into their marriage as their third.

Conflict
There is some initial hesitation from Maggie because she doesn't want to become a social pariah, but she quickly overcomes her reticence since she loves both men. Then she's attacked by the man who was the villain in The Courage to Love. This causes a PTSD episode with Jonathan & he takes off for awhile.

My Thoughts
Lots of very erotic, down & dirty sex in this book. Not for the faint-of-heart or for those who don't like man on man action. Also I quickly tired of the angst - both with Maggie & the "woe is me" portion with Jonathan. Otherwise I enjoyed the story. And I snickered because the narrator goes by Alex Moorcock. Don't know if that's his real name or not, but my inner 12 year old was greatly amused. :)

Entertaining and heated regency MMF sizzle with decent relationship and plot development

The author includes a nice range of MMF heat woven into a typical but somewhat interesting regency setting. There is a decent attempt to address some of the relationship issues where a proper lady is encouraged to let go of societal expectations and physically enjoy and love two men. Two gentlemen who love each other as comrades in arms and brothers are challenged to just how far their fraternal bond goes. The plot and character elements are strong enough to classify this a as a very heated story with a somewhat thin/quick but still interesting plot (that nicely reinforces the sizzle).

The explicit scenes and seductions contain stronger, sex-focused, induling in erotic naughtiness language than usually found in polite Regency characters, so that’s a positive for those looking for a bit dirtier/more sizzling scenes than typical historicals, but the relationship/plot (albeit moving quickly at time) was just enough to make this more than dirty porn without plot.

3 stars for the background setting and series plot
3.5 stars for the relationship struggles and personal demons
4.25 stars for the explict, dirty talk/scenes (compared to typical Regency reserve)

3.75 stars overall

You must think of this as an alternate world because there's no possible way this scenario would have occurred in Regency England. A threesome consisting of two men and a woman, all involved with each other including the two men, just didn't happen in high society of the time. If you can put aside that plus the jarring modern endearments used like "baby", which aristocrats at the time didn't say, you'll like the story. It moves much too fast to be believable, but we've put realism aside, so just enjoy the silly ride for what it is. There's m/f, m/f/m, m/m and m/m/f.

this was a good read. i really liked the male characters in this one. Jonathan and Phillip were so affectionate towards each other. i wish there had been more m/m scenes with them rather than mainly at the end.
they were both good with Maggie too. their scenes together were good.
the only weak points for me was that Maggie became familiar too quickly with the whole threesome thing and became this seductress. also Jonathan's secret that gave him nightmares. other than that the book was great.
looking forward to continuing the series.

"Love Under Siege" by Samantha Kane is a historical erotic menage story. Interesting to see how the author uses historical events to provide a purpose for the menage relationship. Also interesting in that the males are not lovers until after the menage relationship is established. A different take on the normal menage stories and very, very hot!!

Phillip & Jonathan have their hands full with Maggie entering their life. And the danger surrounding the threesome is increasing. Their friends do their best to help the burgeoning love affair, but the world outside clamors for entrance. Maggie reaches deep within her to make this world come true, and Jonathan is falling apart with his self doubt. In the end, love always conquers evil.

REVIEW:

Going into this one I was more prepared for what it was. When I started “A Courage to Love” I don’t think I expected it to be as graphic and dirty, but also cheesy and unbelievable in some ways. And even though I loved the smut, I didn’t expect it to be so blunt and cheesy.

But this one I expected to need to suspend my belief and just sit back and enjoy the smokin’ hot mmf ménage sex. And it didn’t disappoint. These books are incredibly smutty and I love it.

My favorite thing about these is the aspect of the two men having a strong bond which houses a lot of repressed sexual feelings for each other. I don’t think they’ll all be this way considering how some of the future main characters are already set up as lovers. But I loved this about the first two books in the series.

The only thing about the two men being so close to one another is that it really diminishes their feelings towards the woman. I didn’t feel as much of a connection with her because the two men are so deeply connected and in love and have such a long history together. So that’s one downside to it. But I think it’s worth it still.

When it comes to Maggie specifically I wasn’t a big fan. She’s very judge-y in the beginning and I was rather put off by her comments and the boundaries she initially placed upon herself and the two guys. She was just kind of snooty sounding.

Still, the smut is HOT. I love that aspect of these books. Some of the hottest erotica I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot).

Overall it was another hot installment. I’ll definitely be reading more. Not for the story and not really for the romance either. Just the smut. lol

4 stars (enjoy Kate Pearce, Jess Michaels, Victoria Vale, Samantha Kane)

Sometimes you want to just have dessert as your meal...that’s what Historical Erotic romance is to me when reading these books.

my personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions and 4. stories with family/friends.

I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). Samantha Kane does a good job with past characters throughout her Brother in Arms series.

The development and interest in main characters and secondary characters was enjoyable (I think there’s enough written about next upcoming series book to grab your attention). I really did like the H/H/H for this book; very well paired as a couples.

writing style is easy to follow, humorous moments (secondary characters, the give and take dialogue enjoyable as well as action pack.

I did enjoyed how the writing of the book came along in the story telling.

Romantic/sexual content (kissing, oral, love making scenes) was throughout the book; well written detailed scenes. 5/5 hotness and steam (sometimes it was too much and the story was lost to me).

would recommend this book and the series.

You don’t have to read the series (main books) in order however, I think you lose the storytelling of characters.

NOTE: written in some of the stories is traumatic events (sexual abuse, sexual assault, PTSD, assault). Nothing in great detail.

It's a solidly okay book. Lots of sex scenes, however relatively little m/m interaction.

A few things:
- Not historically accurate if that is something that bothers you.
- The heroine is very innocent and then suddenly isn't? It would have been nice to see more of that developing.
- There is an instance of dubcon and on a separate occasion sexual assault (no rape though).

1.5 and it's getting the half star because it contains a poly triad, not just a stupid mostly hetero threesome, and engages in poly politics. The main character has recently wed one of two men who were already together, and the book is mostly about her coming to terms with the guy she's not married to joining their relationship. This is a great setup for conflict - but whenever some difficulty appears it is easily overcome. So there is no real conflict in this story - except for an invented and overly dramatic home invasion-type thing toward the end. Plus, the historical setting is just window dressing - no one acts appropriate to the period.

I ended up skimming this book for the sex scenes, which while good enough to get the job done are pretty unoriginal and overly emotional. UGH I want this series to be so much better. Super happy I tried this one out as a library book.

Good book. Steamy scenes but not much of a story beyond the 3 characters. Setting it in the past did it a bit of injustice though because almost everything in the story seemed to be seen from a modern stance. The Robertson back story was a bit weak, along with the reason one of the characters was seemily tortured by war. Also way too many pairings amongst their friends to keep track of - their names disappeared into the shadows of my mind. My favourite scenes had to be the education of Maggie though. All in all, a juicy little tale.

This story hit a few bumps. The premise of the story holds true but the plot fell short a bit and it wasn’t as engaging as the previous book. But it is still far better than the usual run of the mill contemporary romances in this category.
The main essence of these books are the unconventional relationships between all 3 very human characters in very real situations.

Read this for:
The very human characters
The wit and charm of fantastic proportions
The sex leaping off the pages
The action
The secondary characters, they are so much fun

I enjoyed the emotional aspect of this story, as well as the physical. Samantha knows how to write good menage of the mmf variety.

What I didn't like was the manipulation that took place to get Maggie to do what the guys wanted her to do. I felt that they should have been up front with her or any woman if they want them to be in an unconventional relationship.

Yes, she probably would have ran screaming, but it would have been the honest thing to do.
