A bookseller who neither knows how to write a book or put down his arguments. I’m glad the suffering of reading it didn’t last long as the book had less than 100 pages.

There is no solid ground to his comeback. His kids went for school and college, then where are their diplomas? If the carpenter had been in jail for 3 days or 3 years, where are the documents that would prove it?

Even if all the information in “The bookseller of Cabul” was false, Rais’ response book couldn’t manage to give the any truth or enlightening as it deeply lacks evidences, facts, proofs of any kind.

I also hated that this book is some sort of fable in which Norwegian trolls talk to the bookseller to find out “the truth” and tell it to the king and queen of the trolls.

The book reached rock bottom for me when the bookseller stated that there is no oppression against women in Afghanistan and that Afghan women don’t go to the parks anymore because there are no cypress trees there. Oh, and he blamed the war in Afghanistan for the poverty of Afghan women (yup, not the people, only women).

For short, it’s just some sexist bullshit with a huge lack of solid ground. Better skip it and save your mental health.

This book is amazine. It's journalism, but reads like a novel. You can't wait to find out what happens to the characters. And what a portrait of Kabul and all of Afghanistan as well as Pakistan. You find out more in this book than you do in the newspapers--what the policing of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is actually like, the attitude towards the Americans, etc. A realy eye opener and page turner!

Iespējams atšķirībā no daudziem citiem es izmantoju iespēju (kura radās vienkārši laicīgi neizlasot grāmatu "Kabulas grāmattirgotājs") izlasīt šo grāmatu uzreiz pēc Kabulas grāmattirgotāja grāmatas, līdz ar to, man bija pieejama abu pušu skatījums, novērtējot grāmatu.
Vērtējot grāmatu, ņēmu vērā, ka tā bija kā atbilde norvēģietes atbildei, tomēr beigās secināju, ka bija pārāk daudz mīnusu/lietas, kas nepatika, lai atsvērtu to nedaudz ironisko parādīšanu par tēmu, cik maz patiesībā rietumnieku zina par austrumu zemju kultūru.
Nepatika:
1) troļļu klātbūtne/piesaukšana (radās jautājums, vai tādā veidā autors nevēlējās pieglaimoties Norvēģijas iedzīvotājiem) un to nozīme grāmatā (autors, laikam domāja, ka tādā veidā pastiprināja savu vārdu pareizību);

Possibly the worst book I've ever read. I agree with everything Tatiana wrote in her review.

It is a good book, but sometimes bias...I agree with the Bookkeeper that the author of the Original book might have used of his hospitality to write specific personal facts which she could have generalised if she found it clashed with her own believes. There are some cultural affairs that cannot be denied being intrinsic even if one does not agree with them.
