Forgotten City #3

Monstrous Ends

Rate this book
Thirty years ago the world as we know it was lost. Now humans live like rats, desperate for food and safety, the wall towering before us as a mocking reminder of what happened…

A wall I find myself running to for refuge.

I’ve spent my whole life uncovering the truth, telling the world the reality behind the stories that they watch. I’m the one on their screens, the adrenaline junkie, the mayor's perfect daughter. Until one day I pick up the wrong story. With no other choice, I run and hide in the one place I will be safe from those hunting me…

The wall.

However, once over it, I don’t find safety, I find chains. Captured by my enemy, a monster, and held at his whims I have no choice but to use every weapon at my disposal to keep myself alive and prove my worth to him.

Samael, The Mad King.

The monster that hates humans more than any other, the one who watches me like he cannot wait to kill me, but when fate intervenes and we find ourselves turning to the other for answers he has no choice but to keep me alive.

After all, my enemy's enemy is my friend.

Lies have been told, truths have been revealed, but now its time to end this once and for all.

It is time for the monsters to take their revenge.

It is time for our Monstrous Ends.

* Monstrous Ends is the third book in the Forgotten City Series, all the books can be read as a stand-alone and feature different characters but to fully enjoy the series I suggest reading the series in order.*

Seemed a bit like a monster biker gang, without the motorcycles!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😠😘🤓🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Lyra - she was a journalist that wanted a big story and she stumbled upon the biggest of her career. Thirty years ago, humans waged war against monsters from another planet and were losing when they built a wall to keep all the monsters in the old city while humans were outside the wall and built a new society. Lyra finds out that the monsters were not from space but were created in Labs and mistreated until they fought for their own freedom.

The Hero: Samael (a.k.a. the mad king) - he is the leader of the feral group of monsters. When the monsters escaped, rebelled and waged war on the humans that created and then tortured them, they saw red, literally. They went into a fugue like state where all they wanted was to kill and all they felt was anger against all humans. This group remains hating all humans and they never really came out of their ‘red’ state. Some of their members were also kicked out of the two other groups (the warriors and the thinkers).

The Story: Lyra is chasing her big story and finds herself running for her life. The only place she can go is beyond the wall, where it is patrolled by a group of monsters that hate all humans. Samael’s throne is made from the skulls of his enemy and his gang lives in a prison. He fights every day for his position and they live with only two rules: 1. Samael leads and 2. They kill every human they find.

When there is an alert at the border, they go to the wall to kill any humans that come through. There is only one woman that comes through the wall and she tells them she wants sanctuary because the humans are trying to kill her for what she knows about the monsters. Samael and his group capture her and drag her to their lair.

I have to say, I didn’t really like Samael’s little kingdom. It was like the most brutal biker gang ever. He gets challenged to the death on the regular by members that want his throne. I don’t know how he can still have any members when he is challenged so often. He ends up holding the still beating hearts of his enemies every time. Which basically means he won’t live that long because someday someone younger, stronger and meaner will challenge him. It is a bit depressing. I also don’t really like how much the group is into exhibitionism.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Tor Thom and Kasi Hollowell. I like Kasi’s voice which is age appropriate for a young woman and very clear. She also does a good job on her male voice which is quite different than her female voice. Tor Thom is one of my favorites, especially for paranormal and alien romance. His voice is so deep it almost sounds otherworldly, and I really like it.

What a super hot and epic conclusion to what's been a fantastic series! In Monstrous Ends, we see Lyra and Samael's story. Two beings whose upbringing's couldn't have been further apart, but still similar in the pain they've known. Lyra is a reporter and daughter of the mayor, uncovering the truth of the government's involvement in the creation of the monsters and their continued experiments on both people and the monsters. Under attack, she flees to the one place she knows they won't follow, over the wall and into the hands of Samael, the Mad King who hates humans more than anyone. Lyra is willing to do anything to bring the truth to light, even throw herself on the mercy of someone that thinks he has no mercy left.

Monstrous Ends blew me away and is my favorite book of the three! All three books storylines run concurrently, and while you could read Monstrous Ends as a standalone, it would be best enjoyed if read in series order. The storyline is awesome. Super interesting and the world building is fantastic. Completely draws you in on page one and doesn't let go. I loved that the ending didn't feel rushed at all and it was allowed to wrap up the dangling threads without it being an info dump at the end. Tons of action, twists and turns, and secrets to uncover. The characters were AWESOME. I loved both Samael and Lyra and thought they were perfect for each other. The chemistry is awesome and their smexy times at five alarms, but I liked how their pasts and personalities complemented each other enough to make their vulnerability with each other realistic. If dystopian and/or monster stories are your jam, you should definitely check out this series - you won't be disappointed!

Great Monster Romance

Monstrous End by K.A. Knight is the third and final standalone in the Forgotten City books. This one follows the story of Lyra, the journalist human, and Sam, the King of some of the monsters. In this one we learn more about the evil and vile things the scientist humans did. This one is dark, so check your triggers. Both of these characters are stubborn and beautifully broken from their past. The ending of this book was perfect. It tied everything together and didn't leave you with any questions.

MF/dual POV/HEA/paranormal/monster romance/enemies to lovers/dystopian vibes/possessive/mates/violence/mentions of past abuse and neglect/mentions of past sexual assault and torture/corrupt government

This is the 3rd and final book in the Forgotten City Trilogy. Each book follows a different set of characters and can be read as a stand alone. These books do coincide but also build further onto the overall plot/story that runs throughout the whole series. So to get the most of the series, it is highly suggested to read the books in order.

30 years ago everything changed. Now, with new information that will change everything again, Lyra's on the run but determined to expose the horrid truth to the world. Because she knows her people won't follow her, hiding across the wall that separates the humans and the monsters is her only option. Which places her right into The Mad Kings territory.

Samael hates humans more then any other monster on his side of the wall, and for a good reason, so when he catches Lyra, he is determined to find out why the feisty little human is in his territory, even if he has to torture it out of her. But there's a inner pull to her he never expected. He wants to hurt her in all the best ways. With the information she possesses, can they team up and finally bring peace and knowledge to a world that's been nothing but blind, corrupt and twisted?

We have finally found out the identity of the mystery woman we've only heard about so far!

Samael was such a complex character. What he went through explains a lot about him but ultimately he's just misunderstood and use to fighting for survival over all else. I loved the way Lyra was able to match his energy, fight tooth and nail with him, but also bring out a side of him he long thought was lost. She was the perfect match for him.

I love Lyra's strength and drive throughout the book. She had a very rough childhood and even though her demons continued to haunt her, she was determined not to let them win. While Sam and Lyra were so different, they were also so much alike. Then the chemistry between these two was in a class of its own. They bring a whole new meaning to hate sex. They were both fierce, strong personalities and I think they honestly could hold their own right up there with Aria and Akuji. I was happy to see Samael brought back into the fold beside Cato and Akuji. And even happier to see them all together in the final conclusion to this series.

I love all of Katie's dystopian books and this series sits right at the top with the rest of them. The world building was phenomenal. I was already invested in this series form the previous books but this book pulled me in right from the beginning. It was full of twist and turns, fierce passion and a fight to the death. I really enjoy when the final epilogue (here its labeled as a 'bonus chapter') has a follow up POV from all the characters over the whole series. As much as I hate to see this series end, I am happy I got to experience it.

Samael And Lyra Are My Favorite Couple In Series!! ❤️❤️❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review

Omg I think this third book in this series is definitely my absolute favorite. K.A. Knight did not hold back one bit with this emotionally raw and phenomenal book. I really wish that this was not the final to this series. It has turned out to be another top favorite of hers right up there with Their Champion series and Den Of Vipers. K.A. Never ceases to amaze me, nor disappoint with her phenomenal books.

This is the long awaited story of Lyra and our Mad King Samael. And holy smokes is it hot and intense. These two were so perfectly paired and matched in every way. To include their harsh and traumatic pasts. Both grew up in situations that thankfully did not break them but changed them for life making them stronger and harder. So when Lyra must run to the safety of the forgotten city and Samael captures her they both face changes from a internal war they face fueled by feelings that confuse them….because they are supposed to hate each other. Their story is definitely one that you must absolutely read. It will draw you in and hold you captive until they finally get the HEA they and the others so dearly deserve.

This book will 100% keep you on the edge of your seat. Lies and secrets are fully revealed and betrayals are avenged. The world will once again change but it won’t happen without a fight that will bring losses and some of them will leave you feeling heartbroken. This is definitely a series I will find myself reading multiple times. Just could not get enough of it. Highly recommend this book, this series, and all of K.A. Knights books.

This is the third book in the Forgotten City Series. Each of the books is a standalone and you can read it like that but I feel like you are better off reading them all because while each book is about a different character it is the main story line that carries through all the books.
This is a paranormal/dystopian book. It is the story of Samael and Lyra. He is known as the Mad King. He is brutal and rules over the outcasts and misfits and he cannot stand humans. He hates them really. Lyra is a human reporter and she is at her wits ends and searching for refuge and crosses the wall to the monster's side. Immediately she is captured and held prisoner by the Mad King. They can't stand each other. However under that there is an intense attraction and chemistry flying all over the place. The more time they spend with each other they begin to find out they have more in common than they ever thought. These two have both been through some horrible abuse and are fighters. Soon they begin to work with others to work to uncover the horrible secrets the government has been keeping and free the oppressed, weather the are human or monster. This book was so good. I don't think I laid it down one time.

My feelings:

I seriously love Ka Knight. I don’t think she could write something that I didn't like. This book gave me, Smut, Monsters, Romance, Action and a great storyline.

I will kill the entire world for her so she never has to bloody her pretty, delicate hands.

Book 3 follows the reporter and her story while being captive of the Shadow clan peeps. The leader Samael, you know the type, big, strong, psycho, runs his kingdom with an iron fist and murders everyone who says no….. I mean clearly this man has issues and needs a hug.

You say you hate me, pet, but you sure do love riding my face….

So in walks Lyra, a beautiful, strong curly girl with daddy issues, ready to pick up the peaces of this big strong man and turn him into a puppy. And that she dose. Its a story that been done a million times. Am I mad, nope not at all. The smut is amazing, the storyline is interesting, and I love how in the end it's the women who has to get on board not the man.

As i said if KA Knight writes it… I’ll read it:)

Good

NOTE 1: This is part three of the series, and it needs to be read in order for best understanding of the story.

NOTE 2: This book is the darkest one, and covers a lot of stories of ALL kinds of abuse - mostly in remembering and PTSD episodes.

Lyra and Samael

As a journalist, Lyra is always hoping for the next big story, but she is shocked with what she discovers.
Heading over the wall and into the Forgotten City, she hides amongst the monsters, hoping to expose the truth that the powers in the outer city are trying so desperately to hide.

This story goes far deeper, and darker. Both MCs are scarred inside and out, with horrific pasts that cause both PTSD, and some unusual kinks. That makes for a very spicy book (it’s far spicier than both Aria’s and Tally’s tales), but also for a much darker one, probably worth keeping a handkerchief nearby.
There are also some intriguing revelations about the world, that were first hinted at in Tally’s book, and fully revealed in this one- I’m hoping we see some more of this in future books!

An engrossing read, this one is also both heartrending and at times heart-pounding. It’s not for the faint of heart, or the easily triggered, but it’s a great dystopian romance, for the monster lovers out there

Pasted review for the series with thoughts on individual book

if you have read K.A. Knight’s books before then this series is definitely on the tame side
This book is the third and las book is on the darker side of the dark romance with cnc and nc but the fmc did like it, so do with that what you will. The first book is in the middle with it being light but having more darker elements, and the second book in the series is the lightest one. that being said remember it is a dark romance, and K.A. Knight definitely knows how to write dark romance.

So does it have 🌶️? YES — it is kinky, please look at all the triggers if you are sensitive to dark kinks.

The plot is pretty straightforward but i do have to say it was nice.

World building was about 9 out of 10 — i found you could actually picture where there were and i really appreciate the effort into the consistency of the description.

Character development 10/10 just … yes. All characters were very good and i found that it was all thought through.

This series has three stories that follow each other so reading them in order is something I would suggest you do

My thoughts: WOW, I just completed reading Monstrous Ends by K.A. Knight, and I must say it was an outstanding novel. The book was phenomenal in every aspect, and the author did an exceptional job. Despite the main characters being scarred and having gone through terrible abuse, they were perfect for each other and helped each other heal. I wouldn't change a single thing about this book, and I am grateful to have found such a fantastic series, particularly Monstrous Ends. I wholeheartedly recommend this series as it was perfect.

Always chasing the big story, Lyra stumbles across a world-changing, life-ending story, and has no choice but to flee across the wall. Captured by the monsters, Lyra proves she's no ordinary human. King Samael is known as the Mad King. Tortured by human scientists from the time he was a young boy, he doesn't understand why he hasn't killed the little human like all of the humans who came before her. She's captured his interest and they have formed an alliance to fight their common enemies across the wall. He can always kill her after that. Or he can discover, she brings the best sort of madness into his world.

As someone who has repeatedly stated doesn't like monster romances, I have to give kudos to this series. It surpasses any other series in its genre. The world building is exceptional. The monsters were humanized and the humans were exposed as the true villains. Except, of course, for the warrior, the scientist, and the journalist. The women who joined with the monsters to save the world. This was a worthy end to the series. Lyra and Samael were the most complicated characters in the series with the darkest histories. Sammy might be my favorite of the monsters. I loved Lyra too but she still falls second to Aria. I seem to love the crazy ones. Samael and Lyra's path to happiness was rocky and emotional but their chemistry was scorching even when they hated each other. I loved their relationship arc and equally, I loved Lyra forcing the other monsters to finally 'see' Samael and recognize how they had also wronged him. This was a complexly layered story with political, moral, belief systems, and social justice undertones. Values, bravery, and love, surrounded by red skin, horns, and tails.

The third and final book in the Forgotten City series!! While technically this is a standalone, I highly suggest reading books 1 and 2 first to get caught up on the overall story. We've met Sammy and Lyra before, but now we get their story! And KA Knight did not disappoint!! From the beginning, I was hooked! Who am I kidding, I was hooked from the glimpses I got of them in the last books! Lol! Their chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥! Sammy doesn't want to want Lyra, and he tries to fight it. Both are stubborn, but they truly need each other. I love Lyra. Just like her other FMC's, KA Knight has a way of writing strong female characters that are impossible to not love and admire. This story was action packed, brought all the steam and tied up the overall story with a nice little bow!! You need this series!

Forgotten City

All I can say is wow! K.A. Knight created a beautiful series. There were so many questions I had about Samuel and the human he kidnapped but everything was laid out in this book. I think this book was my favorite out of the three in this series! This book really details the stories of the monsters and what they had to go through. I was glad that Lyra did what she did to save both humans and monsters. The spiciness in this book was by far more than the other books and I loved every bit of it! I did not expect the ending besides it ending in an HEA but it was absolutely wonderful. I am glad that everyone got their peace. I definitely suggest this read to anyone interested in a monster romance.

This is the third story and I do highly suggest reading these in order, if you don't then you will just be one confused reader and just not understand what is happening and who is who. In the previous story the fight had already started with the escape from the lab and that uprising that happened. In a quest for information, Lyra escaped over the wall determined to find information to back up a theory she has, when Samael captures her. Something a bit odd for the ruthless king that normally kills humans on sight. Lyra isn't one to back down, not afraid to be sassy with the king and make her demands known, Samael actually looks at Lyra a bit differently for her spunk. But one must never forget that there is always danger around the corner, even when sitting on the throne someone is always there to fight for that right. Lyra has a lot to learn about this world on the other side of the wall, but she will not forget her original goal; find out the information that she seeks so that the people know just what is going on. The odds are stacked against them, but with the will they have there is no way they won't achieve their goal. Only question is, will they all make it to the end?

This was the perfect ending to the series! I inhaled this story and am actually a bit sad it's all over; I can only hope that maybe we get something else from this world that the author created. We get some really good drama, danger, violence, and the naughty bits were so freaking hot! I give this 5 stars.

4⭐️ 4🌶️

This book was my favorite in the series. Ever since Samael was introduced in the first book I couldn’t wait for his story and it did not disappoint.

Samael is know as the Mad King, a brutal man who rules over outcasts and misfits and hates humans more than anything. So when Lyra, a human reporter, tries to find refuge on the monster’s side of the wall, she is immediately captured and head prisoner by Samael.

The two of them lock horns from the beginning hating each other despite their intense and obvious chemistry. But as they spend time with each other they slowly begin to learn that they might have more in common than expected. They are both fighters and survivors or horrific abuse. Together, along with the leaders of the other territories and their mates they work to uncover the horrible secrets the government has been keeping and free the oppressed, both human and monster.

I love Samael so much. He is such a fierce and dominant male who isn’t afraid to use violence to secure his place as ruler of his territory. At one point I thought about going back to tally up how many hearts he ripped out. And yet he turns into the sweetest most over protective guy with an absolutely filthy mouth.

Lyra is also my favorite of the FMCs. She is tough, kind hearted, and more than a little reckless. She has also survived some pretty horrific abuse which makes her an understanding partner for Samael who helped soled him from his nightmares and see his own strength as a survivor.

I loved seeing the characters from the first two books without feeling like I was reliving the first two books. That was my biggest complaint about book two. That there was too much overlap with book one. But this book balanced it perfectly.

I’m sad the series is over but I’m also wondering if there is a spin off possibly in tbr works. I’ve grown quite attached to Sascha and Doc.

Amazing series!

Am I the only one to be sad the series is over? I couldn’t get enough of this entire series but Monstrous end was like the icing on the cake! I know this entire series will have me coming back to it later this year to read again! It was just that good. The heat from the chemistry between each of the couples poured from the pages and the plot kept you turning the pages. From start to finish it was an amazing journey that I didn’t want to end but I know Knight won’t disappoint with her next release, she never does!

Sammy was just a complete surprise, he was by far my favorite monster out of the series and way more OTT then the other two.

Lyra might have been raised with wealth but it’s all a show, she and Samuel went through hell so naturally they both know how to help one another and help heal each other. Samuel fights his pull to her but then he soon realizes that he can never give her up. So he does everything in his power to keep her. Lyra falls fast for him and doesn’t realize that they are mates until they both give in to the feelings they have been trying so hard to fight.

Secrets are unveiled, a fight breaks out, and Samuel has no choice but to let Lyra go back over the wall if it means he can save his people too.

Read this series now! You will not be disappointed, I promise you!

❤Enemies to lovers
❤Sci-fi romance (H is a monster his kind were created by the humans)
❤So Steamy
❤Mild abuse – flashbacks and only mentions of their past
❤Mates
❤H is very OTT of his mate

The ending to this series was everything I hoped for!

Sam and Lyra got their HEA after all the pain that they endured throughout their lives. They deserve every moment of their forever. All of these couples do!

This book was filled with action, heartbreak, loss, and unending love. I’m so happy with how this story ended and I loved the epilogue with the multiple POVs from each couple.

I can’t recommend this series enough! I loved every moment of this journey and I love all of these characters. I will definitely be rereading this series in the future. Until then more adventures await.

This was a perfect end to the Forgotten city series.

Monstrous Ends follows Samael and Lyra, both have had traumatic pasts but while investigating what the scientists have been doing on both sides of the wall they develop a strong love and with each others support they start to heal.

All the mystery and lies that the series has been leading too will be revealed and you will be left with a satisfying conclusion.

Monstrous Ends was a really enjoyable read that had some humour thrown in at the rights moments.

Perfect ending!!

This was a perfect end to this series!

Samuels book was the one I was the most intrigued about with the way the others spoke about him but Lyra was absolutely perfect for him. She matched him in every way and kept him in his toes

I loved how they all came together and did what they had to do to get the word out. I was so happy when it all came together.

This was my first jump into monsters and I absolutely loved it!

What a beautiful ending

This was by far the darkest couple as far as pasts go so of course they had a really rocky start. Yet their story was beautiful. I don't want to give too much away but Lyra and Samael, well they need each other in order to truly heal. And while finally finding peace for themselves fighting to bring peace to their world. It was just a really enjoyable read and the ending had me tearing up.

Awesome trilogy

This was a trilogy that I stumbled upon and I am so happy that I read it. The stories are amazing and you can imagine exactly how it was supposed to be and you are inside the wall with them. Just a great read, even if you're not into the whole monster thing it's just a great story and the women you want to be friends with and just want to see it exactly how it is through their eyes.

We finally have the epic conclusion to author K.A Knight's Forgotten City series, with the third and final book, Monstrous Ends. I will say I do love a good monster dystopian book and this one ticks all the boxes. This time we finally get to find out more about Samael, while the other two monsters in the previous books have had a strong dislike for humans, Samael's seems to go well beyond that, that is until he meets our FMC, Lyra.

Our FMC Lyra is also a little different from the other FMCs we've met in the previous stories, this time she is a reporter and the daughter of the Mayor. But whether she's the daughter of the Mayor or not she wants to find out what is going on, and an anonymous tip sends her on an adventure she never expected.

I loved this book and was totally drawn in from page one. I'm definitely a little sad that this series is now over but it got the brilliant conclusion I was hoping for with these books and the monsters and their humans got their HEAs in the end even if it took them a little time to get there.

This was a wild and spicy read! This is the third book in the series and follows a new set of characters, but there are crossovers and cameos, its a good idea to read these books in order!
This is the story of Lyra the journalist/reporter and Samael the Mad king. Their introduction to each other does not go very well at all. Lyra is running for her life, hiding from humans, she passes through the wall to where the “monsters” live and is immediately caught by the mad king and held prisoner. They despise each other, but underneath that hatred, something else is brewing and as the story progresses and truths are revealed, their relationship changes and it is a wild ride. Both Lyra and Samael have dark pasts that haunt them and together they begin to overcome obstacles that seemed impossible before. This was a great read, lots of action drama and steamy steam and a fantastic addition to the series. I especially enjoyed the epilogue and last few pages , a glimpse into their and others futures. It was a very satisfying end!

great ending

Monstrous Ends finished this dystopian, fated mates series with an epic conclusion! Each couple added a piece to the puzzle to ensure survival for the “monsters” and future of the human race!

These stories are write within the same time period. There are period of overlap from other stories with the new POV.

The epilogues for each couple were a perfect ending for this series!

WOW!

What a great final book in this series! The story played out so well. I loved Lyra so much but her Monster Sammy is my favourite out of them all. ❤️ This book had so much heat it was on fire, but it was so sweet and emotional too. I think these books will be going on my go-to re-read list. Absolutely 100% recommend!!

Ugh..this was perfect🖤🖤🖤

This is definitely one of top series. You just can't help but love these characters!! Sammy and Lyra are probably my favorite couple. They were made for each other. I'm sad the story has ended. Fingers crossed for another series about what's beyond the gate!! I'm not ready to leave my favorite monsters!!!

Brilliant read. I loved this series.
lyra is a journalist and nothing is getting in the way of her scooping the biggest story of her life. But to do this, she must go over the wall. but over the wall is where the monsters live.
Samael is over that wall and he despises the humans with all he has in him. The humans have tortured and experimented on the monsters for the last time and Samael has a mission to kill every human he comes into contact with, But lyra is not like any human he has ever met.
Brilliant read
