“The Ranger’s Angel” by Jodi Thomas
Outlaws, stagecoach chases, and Texas rangers, oh my! This pretty much sums up Annalane Barkley’s day. One moment she was on her way to Camp Supply to meet her brother. and the next she’s holed up inside a stag coach station with outlaws ready to pick her off if she steps outside. It doesn’t help that every man inside the station keeps giving her unnerving glances. Therefore, when Texas Ranger Wynn McCord offers her the chance to get out and away, Annalane hardly even thinks of saying no. Little does Annalane know that she may be in just as much danger with this ranger as she was with the outlaws. Wynn McCord has a mission. He is to deliver a highly important letter to the Quaker who serves as the Indian agent in the area. This letter may stop the fighting between the Indians and the settlers, so Wynn refuses to fail. He just didn’t plan on thestage coach getting chased by outlaws or on meeting the enchanting Annalane Barkley. Quick decision-making leads Wynn to asking Annalane to escape with him and to his pleasure, she agrees. Now the two of them just have to make it to Camp Supply before the outlaws or something else catches up with them. I’m going to state it up front I loved the heroine but disliked the hero. Wynn comes across as an ass. During a scene when Annalane is passed out and asleep Wynn decides to take certain liberties by kissing her and feeling her up. A little while later while Annalane is sleeping again he contemplates having sex with her passed out form. He later decides against it because he shouldn’t force himself sexually upon her when she is exhausted and sleeping “the first time”. Insinuating that perhaps after they’ve had sex once it would be alright to have sex with her against her wishes while she is passed out or sleeping. After reading his sentence I wanted to see him get shot by the outlaws, or possibly by Annalane herself. I loved Annalane because she knew Wynn had wronged her and was contemplating how to kill him. Her dialogue is so brilliant when she’s thinking of everything she’d like to do to him for forcing himself upon her. Needless to say, Wynn doesn’t change much in the story. I really don’t see how Annalane and Wynn got together and stayed together. It was one of those instances when I read the romance but didn’t feel it. Final Rating: 2
Undertaking Texas by Linda Broday
Texanna Wilder needs a hero and she doesn’t care who it is. Marcus LaRoach has been after her and her property ever since her husband, Sam, was killed. Now LaRoach has it in his head that he can just hog-tie her all the way to the church. When it appears that no one around town cares enough to save her, out steps Texas Ranger Stoney Burke. The last thing Texas Ranger Stoney Burke expected to see when he approached the mob was a woman being dragged like an animal down the street. He certainly didn’t expect the woman to be his best friend’s widow. Texanna has always been the girl for Stoney, but he lost her when he wouldn’t leave the Texas Rangers and settle down. Now it appears that Texanna has reared herself right back into his life, and she’s taking his heart hostage yet again. I really liked this short story. Linda Broday brings together two former flames in an event that probably did happen in the Old West. This event, of course, is someone trying to steal a widow’s livelihood. In Texanna’s case, this is a barbershop and undertaking business. Texanna, her son Josh, and Stoney were very endearing characters and for such a short story surprisingly well-rounded. I enjoyed reading Texanna’s and Stoney’s relationship and was glad things worked out well in the end for all. My only complaint was that the story was too short. I really wish Linda had made it into a full novel instead of a short story. I think then things that were rushed could have been paced out better. All in all it was rather good and one of my favorite short western romances I’ve read in awhile.

One Woman, One Ranger by Phyliss Miranda
Ella Stevenson refuses to be forced into marrying someone she doesn’t want to. Therefore, as proprietress of the “Molly Lou’s,” she feels it’s her duty to protect her girls from being forced into a marriage they don’t want. And that’s a possibility, because the justice of peace has decided he’d like to earn a buck by forcing everyone in town who isn’t legally married in the state of Texas to marry. Unfortunately a spat with the local sheriff has led Ella down the very road she’s been protesting. She either marries her so-called “husband,” Ranger Hayden McGraw, or she’ll be sent to the gallows. Right now, Ella isn’t sure what would be worse. The only thing Hayden McGraw was planning to do in Buffalo Springs, Texas was get the new “warrant to arrest” papers that were being sent to “Molly Lou’s.” He didn’t expect to get hog-tied into a spat between the sheriff and pretty Ella Stevenson. He especially didn’t plan on having to marry her to save her from the gallows. Unfortunately, that’s what he gets.
I’m afraid this story bored me. It wasn’t bad, per se, but it wasn’t good, either. The whole story just fell flat. Hayden and Ella were both cookie-cutter characters, Mary Sue and Gary Stu respectively. They said nothing and did nothing interesting. During the scene where the sheriff is trying to arrest Ellie she starts making some protests that doesn’t even make sense. She goes on saying her place isn’t tardy, that nothing illegal goes down, and that there is no reason for her to girls to be married. This left me confuses since the sheriff didn’t mention any of those things. He was arresting her for hitting him and causing a public scene. It had nothing to do with her establishment. There was also the puzzle of why the sheriff was threatening her so much. It didn’t make sense at the time. Later we find out the sheriff was only threatening to her so he could arrest her and search her premises for her barkeeper’s moonshining factory, something that was right under her nose. The fact that she didn’t see it made her seem a bit slow. I have no comment on the relationship except that it was a typical Mary Sue/Gary Stu one. The end.

The Perfect Match by DeWanna Pace.
Ding Ding Ding. The match between Laney O’Grady and Texas Ranger Thomas Longbow has begun. In her corner, Laney O’Grady is battling to earn money to adopt her stepson back from his menacing uncle. She’s also working to prove to the court that she would be a suitable parent and can provide for the boy. The possible weakness in her strategy is the particularly handsome Texas Ranger who has taken her heart. In his corner, Thomas Longbow is attempting to stop an illegal boxing match between Irishman Pete Meher and his rival Bob Fitzsimmons. This is easier said than done since it appears that everyone, other than the politician’s who hired him, is doing everything in their power to keep this fight on; everyone including the widowed Laney O’Grady. Some type of transaction has transpired between Laney and Me, Meher, and Thomas is determined to find out what it was. That is if Laney doesn’t deliver any knockouts to his heart and soul in the process. If “Undertaking Texas” was the best of the anthology, then this one came in second. It was also be the cutest. I found Thomas and Laney’s relationship to be charming, although we really didn’t get a lot of them to expand on something that could have been better. This is another instance where I wish the author had made the short story into a full length novel. There were so many new and interesting ideas being brought up due to the fact that the story is set four years before the turn of the century. Things such as “nickelodeons” and early cinemas and the reaction to trains making travel by horse travel becoming obsolete were just some of the developments the author brought up in the story. It made me want to read more about the reactions of those who lived at the turn of the century. That nitpick aside, Thomas and Laney’s story was an interesting one filled with some mystery and intrigue that left me quite satisfied when I finished the story. Rating: 3 1/2

Give Me A Texas Ranger has four stories by four different authors. 1. The Ranger's Angel by Jodi Thomas.......2. Undertaking Texas by Linda Broday.........3. One Woman One Ranger by Phyliss Miranda........4. The Perfect Match by De Wanna Pace. These all are historical romance. They are all rangers. They all meet strong woman. All are very good stories.
Danger and Desire are the catalysts that start a war widowed Northern Nurses relationship with a hard bitten Southern Texas Ranger.
Deep and abiding love however are what forges the stronger than steel bond that holds Annalane Barkley and Wynn McCord together for the rest of their lives.
A bond that is only broken by death over 40 years later.
Undertaking Texas by Linda Broday
Texanna Wilder and Stoney Burke are both strong characters, befitting members of a period in history where ones work ethic must be strong to make your way in hard life for men and women alike.
To compound her problems the half brother of her deceased husband Sam is determined to take away Texanna and her sons livelihood As he claims to have inherited everything, including her.
Stepping in Stoney provides her hope that life has changed for she and her son for the better as the tall Ranger reignites feelings for him that apparently never died as he was her first kiss.
As expected Stoney's initial reluctant to once again become deeply involved with his best friends widow falls by the wayside as his heart overcomes his head where Texanna and Josh are concerned.
One Woman One Ranger by Phyllis Miranda
Buffalo Wallow Saloon owner Patience Ella Stevenson and Texas Ranger Hayden McGraw come together wholly by accident when he intervenes in the local Sheriff of Buffalo Springs plans to enforce the law of what happens to a horse thief when Ella stands accused.
As this results in the local JP putting in his own law enforcement the unlikely pair find themselves legally married, a circumstance that causes both great amounts of concern for different reasons.
Throw in some other twists and you have a sort of Western Romantic Suspense.
The Perfect Match by Dewanna Pace
El Paso, Texas is the setting for book four.
Texas Ranger this time is one Thomas Longbow and his bone of contention is saddle maker LaneyO'Grady.
Tasked with discovering the intended location for an illegal prizefight Thomas believes that Laney has the information he needs.
Thomas and Laney lead each other on a merry chase throughout the story culminating with his saving her life and finally bringing to justice someone who has plagued her for a very long time while luckily not having to worry about the prizefight between Pete Maher and Ruby Bob Fitzsimmons being illegally held in Texas after all.
Not a bad collection of authors offerings but for me there were some drawbacks to the brevity of the stories simply because they were short so time was spent going forward with the plot rather than dwelling more on some other things that interested me.
I would love Goodreads to change their rating criteria to allow half stars but they do not so instead of 3 1/2 gave only 3 for the entire collection.
I think my 2 faves of the four are the ones written by Linda Broday and Dewanna Pace.
THE RANGER'S ANGEL Jodi Thomas: THE RANGER'S ANGEL - The Texas Ranger Wynn McCord, has been following the trail of some cutthroats. He comes across a stagecoach stopped at a station, containing a single woman and several men.
Annalane Barkley has spent most of her adult life in military hospitals and on battlefields during the Civil War. She doesn't take guff! McCord knows the way station is about to be attacked and should go for help; Annalane talks him into letting her accompany him.
UNDERTAKING TEXAS Linda Broday: Stoney Burke finds Texanna Wilder in desperate circumstances. Texanna's brother-in-law wants to marry her to get the 2 businesses she inherited from her husband. He will go to extraordinary means to get what he wants.
Although his heart is still bruised (Stoney and Texanna were an item until Sam Wilder swept her off her feet. Sam asked his best friend to watch over Texanna if he died). Stoney sees no other solution but to marry Texanna but Stoney will not give up being a Texas Ranger to do it.
ONE WOMAN ONE RANGER -- Phyllis Miranda: This is the best story I've read by this author.
Hayden McGraw has taken Ella Stevenson into custody and now he has real problems. He took Ella from the sheriff's custody by stating he was married to Ella.
A new justice of the peace has come to Newman County and has decreed that everyone living together must buy a license (and get legit). Ella and Hayden pay the fee and sign documents. Now, what do they do?
THE PERFECT MATCH DeWanna Pace: Parts of this story were priceless; this is a unique story. Ranger Thomas Longbow and other Texas Rangers have been sent to the area to stop a prize fight between two pugilists. He happens upon on one of the combatants in Laney O'Grady's saddle shop.
Longbow thinks that O'Grady knows where the fight will be held, and when, and decides to keep an eye on her. He soon learns that Laney is long on character and short on information she will share.
While I enjoyed all of the prose, the steaminess never went all the way. What a shame. That's the problem with collections, I suppose. I would definitely look into some of these authors, to see if they have anything of interest that goes the distance.
A Zebra Books/Kensington Publishing Corporation short story collection. As it says on the tin, the heroes are all Texas Rangers. 3.75 out of 5 overall.
"The Ranger's Angel" by Jodi Thomas. Annalane Barkley, on her way to visit her brother at Camp Supply, finds herself trapped with her fellow coach travelers at a way station after an outlaw attack. It was only due to the presence of Texas Ranger Wynn McCord that they made it there safely. As Wynn and Annalane flee to safety, they grow closer. Annalane is a heroine of strength who can't believe anyone will ever care for her in a romantic way. Wynn is a hero who has been alone since his family was slaughtered when he was just 17. Too lonely souls who belong together, yet still have obstacles to overcome before they find their happily ever after. A lovely tale. 4.5 out of 5.
"Undertaking Texas" by Linda Broday. Texas Rangers Stoney Burke and Sam Wilder had both fallen in love with the same woman, but only Sam was willing to leave the Rangers to marry Texanna and raise a family. Seven years later Sam is dead, leaving Texanna and their son Josh at the mercy of Sam's half-brother who claims he owns everything, even the businesses owned by her family. Stoney, in town to pick up a prisoner, is determined to help despite his resentment of and reluctant attraction to Texanna. Not a bad story, great job with the character of Josh as well. Child characters usually annoy me because they are either too adult or too bratty. Some interesting occupations for Texanna. 3.5 out of 5.
"One Woman One Ranger" by Phyliss Miranda Patience "Ella" Stevenson, current owner of Molly Lou's saloon, is fired up about the recent demand by the Justice of the Peace that all couples must marry or break up. Hayden McGraw had no interest in getting involved, he was just wanting to get his Texas Ranger credentials. The characters and the storyline itself are just drawn too broan for my taste. An overly tall, redheaded heroine who runs a clean saloon in the worst part of town and has a keen eye for cheats and lawmen. And has a temper, of course. The Texas Ranger raised by Rangers his whole life with no womanly influences in his childhood. And who owns an ugly patchy horse. A dumb giant of a sheriff. Way too much quirkiness in one story. Weakest story in the collection. 3 out of 5.
"The Perfect Match" by DeWanna Pace Texas Ranger Thomas Longbow had been sent, along with other Rangers, to El Paso to stop an illegal boxing match. Laney O'Grady, local leather worker struggling to earn money to convince the courts to allow her to adopt her stepson, has agreed to make a new pair of gloves for one of the boxers. Longbow must try to get information from Laney that could point to the location of the fight. Based on real boxers and a match that was rumored to be held in El Paso, drawing hundreds of fight fans to the border town. Lovely set up, great characters, real chemistry between the hero and heroine. 4 out of 5. Three short novellas of Texas Rangers finding love
Jodi Thomas' The Ranger's Angel was a riveting and fun read Undertaking Texas by Linda Broday had a great feisty widow heroine and lovely son combo One woman one Ranger by Phyliss Miranda was chock full of Texan synonyms I plumb near fell to writhing like a rattler on a hot skillet, I was so dagdum befuddled, let me tell ya!
The Perfect Match by Dewanna Pace was great and a fitting end to this great little collection!
There are four stories in the book. I read one and a half. I did like the first one and couldn't finish the second, and skimmed through the third and fourth.
The men were a little too alpha male (I don't want a wuss like the next woman but goodness, not like this, lol) and complained about simple things like a woman's accent or a mother being too cautious with her son's safety.

Liked these four stories about Texas Rangers and upholding the law while finding love in some odd and unusual situations. The four authors: Jodi Thomas, Linda Broday, Phyliss Miranda and Dewanna Pace give the reader four historical situations showing the strength of the women involved and the sense of honor and protection from the men involved in the 1800's in the Old West.
None of these novellas were very good. The writing was unpolished, the plots were boring, and the characters weren't very interesting. I don't think I'll be keeping this book. None of these authors were my usuals, I just thought the topic sounded fun...
The first two stories weren't bad. The last two everything happened so quickly that I was just annoyed. The couples were falling in love after hardly even speaking to each other. There just wasn't enough to the stories to make them have any substance.

An anthology of four Ranger stories. The first story was the best and rated four star. The others were good. The last story was about two boxers, a leather crafter who stitched his new gloves and the ranger wanting to stop the fight. Not so great in my opinion.
The first 2 stories were ok, the 3rd I had to really focus to keep my attention to the story but I couldn't get past chapter 2 in the last story. The 1st story could have been good if it was a novel on its own.
Normally, I really enjoy the stories written in the series. I thought the first on was nice, but then it went down hill. The third one made no sense in the ending. The last one just made no sense from start to finish.
This is a typical novella. You wanted more plot, deepth and character involvement. This is ok, for a quick read that you really don't want to think too much about.
Just read the first novella by Jodi Thomas. 1870 near TX. Wynn McCord & Anna. He's a TX Ranger & she was a nurse throughout the Civil War. I am not a fan of historicals so will forego the rest of this book.
