Okay, I always slow down when reading the last few chapters of a Robin Hood book because I know what's coming and highkey can't stand it, but man, this last chapter was BRUTAL.

But there was also a very good line after Robin misses his archery mark in King Richard's presence:

"Robin had joined in the laugh against himself."

Love the man.

Also, really enjoyed this one (until it stamped on my heart). Traditional but with the unique touches that makes me love reading new versions.

The stories were alot of fun and the last 30 pages were really good. Alot of the stories seemed the same though but it was still a cute read

This was one of the very first books I picked up on Robin Hood. It was a random find, in a used bookstore. Turns out that it was the perfect book to read to get me into the legend. From what I've read after, this appears to be the bulk of Childs' ballads, put in prose and chronological form. The language may be a little outdated - my middle schooler found it "old language" - but a fantastic book, one that puts all the various stories into one complete whole.

This is my favorite version of Robin Hood. Sterling does something that Pyle and the others don't do very well. Sterling keeps the story mostly episodic while maintaining a wonderful story flow.

Her ability to keep the events consistant with the older myths and ballads, while getting the disconected works to flow makes it that much better than the rest.

Once I got used to the language (thees and thous etc!), this was a great vintage Robin Hood retelling of the legendary tales. I really enjoyed escaping into the greenwood of long ago and joining Robin and his merry band!
