Two timeless tales of romantic suspense from award-winning New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Linda Howard
Midnight Rainbow Was Jane Hamilton Greer just a wealthy socialite in over her head or was she really engaged in espionage that could compromise U.S. interests for years to come? The only certainty was that she was being held captive, and special agent Grant Sullivan was the man to rescue her. Finding her was easy; getting her out was something else. But in the time they spent together, questions of guilt and innocence began to fade against the undeniable attraction between this fiery couple.
Diamond Bay Rachel Jones wasn't looking for trouble, much less a man, but then she found Kell Sabin. He was washed up on her beach, barely alive. Someone had shot him twice. Her sixth sense told her that she was his only hope. With him lying unconscious before her, Rachel had to decide his future, as well as her own.

Linda S. Howington is an American best-selling romance author writing under the pseudonym Linda Howard. She is a charter member of Romance Writers of America and in 2005 Howard was awarded their Career Achievement Award.
Linda Howard lives in Gadsden, Alabama with her husband, Gary F. Howington, and two golden retrievers. She has three grown stepchildren and three grandchildren.
TROUBLE is actually two of Linda Howards older books in one. I loved them both, it was like curling up with an old friend....a great comfort book.
MIDNIGHT RAINBOW- Grant (H) is retired from a sercret goverment agency and is trying to get his life back while living on a farm. He was hired by a desperate man who's daughter was being held captive in the jungle of Costa Rica and only Grant was trained enought to get her out. Grant was prepared for some dim whitted bimbo but that's not what he found when he got there.
Jane(h) was playing her cards close to her chest, she new if she kept her captors thinking she wasn't a threat that she would have a better chance at escape. Only she would have to survive in the Jungle by herself. The night that she plans on makeing her escape someone comes into her room in the middle of the night and kidnapps her.
Grant and Jane make a wild dash through the Costa Rica jungle for freedom and along the way get to know each other and realize that the preconcived ideas they had about each other were completely wrong.
I really loved this book, it was a great adventure. I loved Jane's fear of the dark (something that I can relate to) and Grants gruff demeanor.
DIAMOND BAY- Kell(H) is finally on vacation, something he rarely does. When he is attacked and his boat is blown up he makes a swim for shore.
Rachel (h) is out walking the beach in front of her house when she sees a man strugling to make it to shore. She swims out to help him and realizes he's in big trouble. He's hit his head on some rocks wich have knocked him out so she drags him ashore. When she gets him on the beach she sees that not only has he been shot but that he's naked too! She wast little time in making a decision to help him, so she drags him into her house with the help of her dog Joe.
I loved the scenes were she is taking care of Kell and the heart rending tension that they only have the present, that there can be no future for them. I also loved the dog Joe, the only thing I could have done without is the evil womans name was Noelle, and she was a red head! I don't exactly have red hair more of a strawberry blond but close enough.lol
Linda Howard delivers again! In Trouble, there are two stories told, but reoccuring characters in both. In the first half, Grant Sullivan is hired to rescue a socialite, but she is not what he expects. The danger gets closer and closer, so do Grant and Jane. Action packed from beginning until end...
In the second half, Kell Sabin is on a month vacation, until somebody decides to put him permanetly on vacation. Almost dead, he wshed up on shore to be rescued by the young widow, Rachel Jones. She sees more than the average civilian, and for reasons that aren't perfectly clear to her, she doesn't report the mans sudden appearance...or the bullet holes in him. She nurses him back to health knowing he'll leave her as soon as he's able...Kell knows too much and too many people would love to get their hands on him. He keeps everyone at arms length, more for their protection than his.
The book is action packed, exciting, humorous and heartwarming at times. Great read!!
It’s funny. Both of these stories are over 35 years old, yet they are both timeless and relevant. Sure they could benefit from some updating (i.e. changing fro payphone to cell phones or burners, updating computers, or changing the Kmart - which went out of business quite some time ago - to a Walmart), But relationships and espionage stories and assumptions haven’t changed that much over the years. Both stories were enjoyable and fun reads. I just wish the series would have had a third story.
One of my favorite books from this author. It was the first book that I became interested in her. This series has a great action and romantic take that kept me interested.
I should be reviewing these stories separately because the first one wasn't as good as the second one, which is the reason why I gave this book only 3 stars.
The first story, Midnight Rainbow, was too wordy in my opinion... not enough white space on the pages. You'd go three or four pages before you came across any dialog. Some people prefer a lot of description and thought process, but I'm not one of those people.
The story plot itself was great, and Jane was a fun character since you never knew what she'd do next. Grant was your typical Alpha male so that was enjoyable as well.
The second story, Diamond Bay, was great all the way around. It started off exciting and pretty much stayed that way all the way through. Kell is an interesting character, and Rachel is a very smart woman. I was a little confused near the end, but I'm not going to give anything away there.
I feel that reading Midnight Rainbow before Diamond Bay is important since the characters from the first are in the second and you wouldn't understand their characteristics if you skipped their book. A necessary evil I guess.
Hmmm… my biggest issue was something beyond the author's control. I don't know if the publisher had a paper shortage or was just trying to keep the size of the book down but the text is really crowded together, to the point that I couldn't read it for long periods of time.
Beyond that, there were some seriously funny moments in these two stories, particularly the first. (although that statement that the heroine worked like a Trojan had me giggling, I don't think it was meant to be funny)
They were dated though. At one point in the second story, I wondered to myself how spies and agents survived before cell phones. He's hidden, but he insists on going out to use a pay phone to call someone.
And then there was the first H - a regular boy scout - who was…unprepared and oblivious to it, then was stunned to find out the little swimmers had success. Did they not explain where babies came from?
Ugh, these were terrible. I like Linda Howard, but these just show how far she's come since the 1980's. The plots were dated and the attitudes even more so. The first book couldn't hold my interest except for the time warp aspect (microfilm is at the heart of this adventure in espionage!, the second had a rescue breathing technique I'm pretty sure was obsolete even at the time it was written); and while I enjoyed the second one more, the squick factor of the female protagonist falling in love with the male protagonist WHILE HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS and never having had a conversation with him prior to falling madly in love with a vegetable, was far too high for me to enjoy outside of sheer absurdity.
The only good thing about this book is that it didn't keep my interest away from my NaNoWriMo writings :-)
I ended this book with mixed feelings. I really enjoyed the first book, Midnight Rainbow. And, until the very end, I enjoyed the second story, Diamond Bay. The way it ended bothered me though. This is the first time I have reviewed a book using spoilers. I don't usually like to do that.
But what bothered me about the way the second story ended is that Rachel threw herself at Kell. They ended up together because of her persistence. It was all one way. He made absolutely no effort to salvage the relationship. I didn't like that. I felt it demeaned her. Perhaps I'm just extra sensitive about things like that. But I still enjoyed it and I was glad they had their HEA. Just wish it could have been just a little bit due to his efforts as well as hers.

Hard hitting romantic suspense. First story have to say my favorite part was Jane Greer's slightly out of the box character, funny thing is that did not like Grant Sullivan until book two in this anthology.
Diamond Bay was my kind of read all the way through, overlooking the fact that my favorite character this time was the German Shephard Joe the rest of the story did a number on my heartstrings. I loved Rachel Jones, she is the most at ease with herself female character that it has been my pleasure to meet in a book. Smart, cool under stress and able to think on her feet too!
Kell Sabin is a total alpha male, in all the right ways!
I would love to visit Diamond Bay, it sounds like a piece of heaven on earth and made a great backdrop for the action to take place.
I love the two couples! Grant is even more lovable for being such a great friend to Kell. Jane is a real gem...her mind is really one if a kind and she'll keep Grant on his toes for sure haha. Rachel deserves her happy ever after as does Kell...when you see s strong man go weak for that special moment, it just makes me go aww...Love the Kell Sabin series.
This book is an omnibus of two classic books by Linda Howard regarding military/special ops members. It had lots of action, gorgeous guys, and the amazing women who love them, a perfect mix!
pretty good book. towards the ending of the second story made me cry a little, but that's what makes a book good. Right? Can't wait to read more from this author
I really enjoyed this book! I didn't think I would based on the description on the back. I would have enjoyed more romance involved. Other than that I enjoyed the tough men and tougher willed women.
