Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.
USA Today Bestseller residing in Central Texas from Sacramento, California who creates award-winning teddy bears too!
"Destiny of the Wolf" is Terry Spear's second 'Wolf' novel published by Sourcebooks Casablanca. In this story, she pens a tale of love, greed, lust, and betrayal. At 416 'story' pages, it's certainly not a small book and the author took the opportunity to include a murder mystery and some foreshadowing for what I assume will be her next novel in this series.
Lelandi's parents are dead. Her triplet brother took off several years ago and now she's just learned that her other triplet sister who ran away from an abusive marriage is dead too. But Lelandi has proof that her sister was murdered and she isn't about to let her killer get away with it. So she disguises herself as best she can and heads for the heart of enemy territory...or at least another pack's territory. You see Lelandi is a werewolf and of the royal line at that.
Darien is the Alpha of his pack and runs Silver Town--the only werewolf-controlled town in the States. He's also a man who's grieving over the loss of his wife and soulmate. Even though their marriage wasn't what he thought it would be, as soon as he caught sight of the woman from his dreams, he knew she was his destiny. So when another woman who looks just like his dead wife hits town, it doesn't take long for Darien to realize just how little he knew about his wife...and that she was the 'wrong' sister.
I didn't read the first book in Terry Spear's series so I don't know if that would have made any difference in how I felt about this story. It could be that I'm overdosing on werewolves, but my supernatural/paranormal critters need to have something that makes them stand out...and these didn't do that for me. The dream-mate thing might have done it, but it wasn't integrated well into the story and was more of a small tidbit than a solid part of the plot. The dream sexual encounters were cool, but once again didn't positively identify either participant for the other and so I was kind of confused as to their purpose; other, of course, than to provide a means of seduction and a way to have sex happen quickly in a story.
I also found myself lost and pulled back and forth between locations and points-of-view often which sometimes exasperated me. Then there was a feeling of missing 'something' that would have made certain scenes more understandable and that bugged me too. The hero and heroine were well-matched though, and had plenty of passion for both justice and each other. The murder mystery portion was also well done with plenty of clues and suspects to consider.
All in all, I'm not sorry I read "Destiny of the Wolf", but I don't know that I would recommend it to anyone who isn't a very big fan of urban fantasy. The foreshadowing for the next book in this series was subtly done, but I just don't know if it was enough to put it high on my TBR list.
I tried to enjoy this book and read about 200 pages before I gave up. I found the dialogues between characters laughable and the plot pretty far fetched. I am disappointed because I was hoping to add Terry Spear to my list of paranormal romance authors I enjoy reading but that will not be happening. I am giving away the Terry Spear books I had on my shelf, hopefully someone else will enjoy reading them!
4.5stars actually I liked this outing better than book one but didn't really see the connection between the two so I would consider the books fine for stand-alone. Overlap is either very minimal or non-existent. Lelandi Wildhaven has arrived in Silver Town to find out why her triplet sister Larissa was murdered and who did it. Knowing only that her sister mated the Gray leader Armed Darien Silver, she thinks she had best to in disguise to get the information she wants. And she has to do it before her cruel Alpha locates her and forcibly mates her to his brother. I liked Lelandi's independence and warrior attitude and Darien, a balanced Alpha that took good care of his pack. Both Lelandi and Darien feel the pull toward each other and each is aware that Larissa's shadow stands between them, but for different reasons. They were great as a couple, quite likable and multi-dimensional. A couple of the secondary characters stood out and I'd be anxious to read about them in future, namely Silva, Tom and Jake. Finding out what really happened to Larissa was an interesting mystery with plenty of tension. The action thread with the villain trying to stop Lalandi from finding out everything about Larissa worked very well as it was woven through keeping the story excellently balanced. What drove me nuts? Referring to themselves as Lupus Garou in italics no less. It just seemed affected and sometimes made the sentences clumsy. I really liked the mystery elements of this story. The mistaken identity theme seemed tired at first blush but once it was unraveled here it seemed quite clever and the right thing to do. The characters were very good and the pacing was excellent. I had read 75% of the book before I realized it. This series has done too much time in TBR land and I'll be reading more as soon as I can.
Couldn't even finish it. I got halfway through before I just couldn't take another word. The writing was choppy, the characters had no depth, and the insta-love kept me rolling my eyes. She's strong but weak- but only because of the meds. Eye roll. Everyone hates her, she doesn't want the alpha male, but can't stop dreaming about him. Apparently he does the same. He married her triplet sister- accidentally thinking the sister was her... add in some fumbling and bumbling and we have two weak main characters I couldn't give two hoots about. I couldn't care less if they ended up together or not. Waste of time. Really not sure how anyone could have given this book more than 1 star... but perhaps they haven't read Natalie Singh's series? Or almost any other good lupine series. This wasn't one of them.

Lelandi came to Silver Town to look for her sister's murderer. She's not welcome in town, especially by the women, but she knows how to defend herself. That doesn't mean her life is not in danger. Darien is not happy of her presence either. He just lost his mate, so why does he feel an instant attraction for her twin ?
Unfortunalety, I was not able to embark on this story. At the beginning, I found it a bit confusing, wondering if it was the author who mixed up the name of Lelandi and Larissa but finally, a couple of pages later, we learn it's the heroine's sister who deceived Darien. I was glad because I just couldn't get over the idea of a shifter having an other mate when he already had one before. Probably because most of the shifter romance come with the concept of mating for life and you can only have one soul mate, I didn't like to think he could have find an other when you're supposed to have only one. But even if finally Larissa was not his true mate, the story for me was already tainted by the fact they thought she was. And in the end, I didn't felt nor believe in their connection.
The poor heroine just couldn't get a break. She was shot at, strangled, suffocated and then there's a car accident. And that's before the alpha of her clan arrive to try to force her to come back so she can get back on train with a mating she doesn't want. I think that with less pages than 416 the pace would have been more sustained. At the beginning, too much time was spend for the heroine recovering from her injuries.
But there's something about this carnal and sensual universe that makes me want to continue. After two books, I'm not sure if it's a series I'm gonna keep on reading but I'm ready to give it an other chance because I read other book by this author before that I really enjoyed.

I am captivated by the author's masterful weaving of a paranormal romance with an intriguing twist of mystery. Lelandi arrives in town with a mission to uncover the unsolved murder of her sister. Daien Silver, the pack leader, recognizes that someone is determined to silence her. As the pack embarks on a dual quest, to fine the perpetrators of Lelandis sister murder and to protect her from the unseen threat. They navigate a labyrinth of intrigue and suspense.
Terry Spear’s wolves are neither wild not tame. They live in small towns, keeping their identity secret from their human friends, running hospitals, schools, police stations, bars… There’s a human girl who wants to be a nurse, but sick werewolves aren’t quite the same as sick humans. And there’s a girl who’s pretending to be human, but wolves can tell the difference straight away.
Terry Spear’s wolves are sensual, sweet, dangerous and delightful, and her stories are full of intriguing details about a life so different from our own. From the family dynamics of multiple births to the curious etiquette of clothes-shedding and shape-shifting, the background to this tale rings so true I find myself listening in the night—are there wolves in Oregon?
One of Terry’s packs is in Oregon, though not the one the story centers on. Scenery and weather are as beautifully described as the animals, people and stories. Darien’s dream wife has committed suicide. Her twin sister infiltrates the pack in search of more information, and rumors immediately fly that she wants to take her sister’s place as the pack leader’s wife. But Darien and Lelandi are already falling in love, and someone is not above committing murder to keep them apart.
As the story progresses, the reader learns of silver bullets, rapid healing, frozen winters, Victorian underwear, and the essence of lovemaking coupled with the senses of the wolf. It all makes for a passionate, enjoyable read, full of action, mystery and romance, with love and betrayal lending spice and intrigue to the mix.
Destiny of the Wolf is the second installment in the Heart of the Wolf series and the first book I have ever read, by this author and most probably the last. I have no idea what repulsed me so much in this book. Was it the names? Cause God help me no parents in their right mind would name their children Lelandi, Leidolf and Larissa Wildhaven. Well, Larissa was just fine, but she died, so yeah... May be it was the whole idea of the plot? One man sleeps with one twin then with the other?! And though in the beginning he said he still wanted the first one, magically when he founds that Lelandi is his true dream mate he decided that the sex part with Larissa always felt wrong? If that is not convenient I do not know what is !? Or was it the ridiculous, in places, dialogue. Who the heck mouths : "Adonis..In the flesh" or "I have died and gone to Valhalla" during a passionate love making. SO whatever, This book was definitely not by cup of coffee, but I feel kind of generous today so I give Destiny of the Wolf 3 stars, because I think the idea of the dream mating is quite interesting and has a lot of potential. I am open to all kinds of recommendations and if you think some other book of the series is better than this one and might like it more, feel free to write to me...
Another ok read. Although there were a few things that I didn't like:
1 - the hero was mated to the heroine's dead identical twin sister, that hit my ick meter;
2 - for a book that had a mistaken twin identity theme, there should have been more care to ensure the right name was written in the various scenes. There were quite a few instances where the wrong twin's name was used and that's really not good enough.
3 - in the previous book, we were told that it's really hard to convert a human female into a shifter. But this time around, it's like a no big deal. To me, that's a pretty major inconsistency.

I stopped reading it because I was so confused about the names. I think there may have been so typos regarding the name too. I loved her writing though and maybe when I'm at a time when I'm not stressed, I'll pick it up again. I love werewolves!
In the second book of the Heart of the Wolf series, red wolf Lelandi has traveled to Silver Town, Colorado in search of the person who killed her sister, Larissa, but first she needs to meet with Larissa’s mate, Darien. Lelandi has a lot of secrets—she’s in danger from her own pack, she believes her parents are dead, and her brother is missing. Her life is all about revenge, and she’s not about to let a seductive gray wolf stand in her way. Darien Silver is the gray pack leader of the Silver Town wolves, and he’s in mourning over the death of his pregnant mate. When he meets Lelandi, he’s in shock. The two women are near-identical twins (actually, they’re triplets with a brother), but he recognizes Lelandi as the woman he’s seen in his dreams. He soon realizes he mated the wrong sister and sets out to take Lelandi for his own. Though I liked the story, I couldn’t connect with the H/h. Both Darien and Lelandi kept too many secrets from each other. He was also very protective of her—which an alpha hero should be—but his actions and words were often sexist and too controlling. Lelandi, luckily, had a backbone and did what she wanted anyway, but he often seduced her to bend her to his will. I also couldn’t understand how his feelings for Larissa just disappeared after he realized she lied to him about being his soul mate. I was a little confused since details were breezed over in the beginning and sometimes the wrong names were being used. For example, I thought Larissa was originally mated to Bruin, not to Crassus. At least that’s how it seemed at first. Also, in one scene Lelandi is sitting on the couch and then her dead sister, Larissa, is on the couch. The wrong name was used, unless I misread something again. Anyway, I enjoyed the mystery of who blackmailed and killed Larissa. I really felt sorry for the poor girl. Darien’s brothers and other members of his pack, especially Silva and Sam, were awesome secondary characters. I can’t wait to see what happens with them in future books. We officially meet Leidolf, the red wolf who helped the couple in the previous book, and I’m even more intrigued with him and his connection with newly turned wolf Carol. 3 Stars
I just couldn’t love this book. It’s definitely not a bad book. I enjoyed getting to know the pack so well and their personalities. I liked the characters overall and the writing was good.
Specific things I didn’t like: The fact that the dead twin gave her sisters name and you don’t find out until 80 pages in. Before finding this out you will seriously think the author/editors really messed this book up. Sentences don’t even make sense because their names are switched. It reads like a dead person you know is dead is talking and doing things. As the book goes on, there’s no true driving need for all that confusion. The author could have gotten across the twins fear and need to hide without it. Or at least let us in on the secret earlier as the reader.
The heroine seems like she’s going to be super bad ass but it never really happens. She comes to avenge her sisters death and beats up a group of mean females harassing her in town. I loved her then. However after that she was lame. Especially how she was so enraged at Dorian after he accuses her of plotting to be his mate...then mates him two seconds later. She’s SO angry then all he does is kiss her and she has no backbone.
The author spent a ton of time, like 100 pages describing the heroine in the hospital recovering from her injuries. I felt like I was in an endless loop of her passing out, waking up, being interrogated, hurting herself by trying to get up, passing out...repeat until I wanted to bang my head against a wall.
Also, someone with the ebook version of this will you PLEASE tell me how many times lupus garou is written??? I mean it’s like every page. I couldn’t remember how to spell it correctly and just randomly opened the book and there it was. It got so annoying after awhile.
Final thing I didn’t like which sometimes I don’t mind but here I did - spending so much time in heroines dreams mating the hero. So many dreams and all I wanted was some real life action between the two but instead I had to read about her passing out at the hospital for hours 🙄

Darrien Silver the oldest of gray werewolf male triplets who dream mated Lelandi (a triplet herself, two female and one male) but when he meets her things are not quite right. Then she dies pregnant with triplets, suicide they tell Darrien who is pack leader and he blames himself. Then a girl comes into town who keeps saying Larissa when someone says Lelandi. This leads to the grays wondering if something more then being shot is wrong with the little red wolf, while she wonders why they can't remember her dead sister and their pack leader's dead mate's name and calling Larissa "Lelandi" which is her name. This is one very mixed up but oh so good story. Then two red werewolf packs come to the gray pack's town claiming pack rights to Lelandi (who is now mates herself)and Darien isn't giving her up. Only one would have really had a claim if she wasn't mates and her brother ends up telling Darien you are lucky you had brothers girls are a lot of trouble. You have different packs (grays and reds), two sets of triplets , and the dead girl was pregnant with triplets and now a young woman who has been changed to a werewolf and has premiums that now says the others sister is going to have triplets .I loved this book.
This was an entertaining read. The flow of the writing was enough to draw my interest.
I enjoyed this story and I would have rated it higher except for the depiction of power in the female characters. There were frequent mentions of women being less powerful and other behaviors that I just could not get behind. It was simply unnecessary and did not contribute to the overall story.
Darian was written as a strong leader who made tough decisions for the wellbeing of his pack. Lelandi was a reasonably strong willed leader who had mated with Darian. I appreciated her strong will and appropriate defiance.
There were some likable secondary characters in the novel. Jake, Sam, Silva and Carol for example. Carol could have a novel of her own eventually.
The antagonists motivations could have been further developed. I just found myself thinking that someone should tell them to mind their business.
I am still questioning her cousin, Ural's, behavior and reasoning but he was not a integral part of the story... yet he played a role in some of the larger events... I feel like so much was missing here. It was just not consistent.
I love Silver Town wolves! I've read a few others prior to this one and was kinda confused at first...lol then I realized this was the first book not recap delving into new stuff. I'm glad I found and got to read how Silver Town came to be....now I need books 2 & 3 to round out my set! Now so much makes sense! I enjoyed reading how Lelandi and Darien came together and the how of Uncle Sheridan. Going back is still a bit off because I know how things are gonna turn out....lol I keep talking to myself saying "no no not that one you're supposed to be with the other guy!" Good thing no one can hear me mumbling to myself! lol Silver Town would be an awesome place to grow up and or visit! Great characters and love the growth of each one! A very tight knit group and the shenanigans they get into! Truly enjoyable read!
I got this book for free from a conference I attended. I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it because while I used to love paranormal romance, I just haven’t liked any in a long time. But I really am glad I gave it a chance, because it was great.
I do have one complaint though, the main character is a triplet, and her and her sister’s name are too similar and I kept getting confused and re-reading. The names are Larissa and Lelandi. I know when saying them they are different, but in getting to know a character from the very beginning, it was a bit much to wrap my head around.
Other than that though, it was so good! I couldn’t believe how fast I read it and didn’t want to put it down at the end of the night. Most of the story takes place in their human form; I’m wondering if that’s why I enjoyed it so much, but honestly it was a great read and I’m glad I gave it a chance.
DESTINY OF THE WOLF by Terry Spear, first book of the Silver Town Wolf, and a bonus story: DAY OF THE WOLF, another exciting adventure in the Silver Town Wolf series.
Wolf-run Silver town is reeling from what looked like a murder than a suicide, and the dead woman’s twin sister’s arrival turns Darien Silver’s life upside down when someone attempted to murder her. DESTINY OF THE WOLF is a nail-biting tale involving murder, mystery, wolves fights for survival.
Bonus: DAY OF THE WOLF, novella by Terry Spear for Heart of the Wolf series Ex-military red wolf Carmela Wildhaven teams with former Special Services grey wolf Michael Hoffman to capture three criminals out for revenge. Spear weaves her magic in this sizzling page-turner romance
I really enjoyed discovering a new series (for me). The main character, Lelandi, is looking into her sister Larissa's death, and thinks she was murdered. She is a red wolf shifter entering the grey wolves' territory where her sister had mated with Pack leader Darian.
The murder mystery has some interesting twists, there is a dream connection, romance, danger, mistaken identity, and great characters and world building that kept my interest throughout the whole story! I definitely want to read more, and I hadn't realized that this is the 2nd book in the series. Time to read the 1st one next. 😄
Good work on characterization, good plotting, good grammar and punctuation, and no errors in word usage--all to the good, and this reader is thankful. Things got a bit mixed up towards the end, and some story lines were left hanging, but that was probably deliberate. These books have a lot in common, of course, but in a way, that's the attraction! All in all, a nice read.
for a rainy night. I will follow this author for a while., just to see what happens with the series. And in passing, a bit of humor would be nice!
Characters are developed well and there is an interesting plot/mystery to resolve. Some of the scene changes in the book we so abrupt, and had no indication the scene had changed, it became confusing on occasion as to where the characters were or what they were talking about or how much time had passed in the matter of a sentence. I hope as the series progresses this will lessen. Overall a nice story line and interesting characters. Thank you for sharing your talent.
The book is well written, however, there is no section where the characters are just calm. There are constantly trying to find a solution to the problem. I didn't like how the hero and the heroine relationship was developing. I didn't finish the book, I read over 200 pages and stopped because I think halfway through the book there should be at least some connection between them but I didn't feel it. The only connection that was there was because of the dream mate thing. The story was just too crowed for me to really enjoy it.
Still a bit dissapointing. And a lot confusing. I did not like how the names Lelandi and Larissa was used interchangeable. That plot device did not work for me. Sure, it's a case of identity theft/ mistaken identity, but it just got so confusing I contemplated giving up on the book.
I will probably not continue this series as I find the writing a bit boring and the books too long with such little substance.
This is my fantasy to change into a wolf when the moon is full or have the power to change at time of need. I loved this fantasy fiction book and story and the protectiveness of the wolves. By the time I had finished it I was heading out the door to find book 2. Hopefully I can get the whole series as I do enjoy reading the series as a whole and keeping the characters fresh in my mind.
0.5 Stars. Started reading a couple of days ago, and read everything but the last couple pages of which I skimmed. The writing was okay, the low rating is in regards to the off-puting content in the book which is supposed to be sexy, but is not (ie. Men being overly possesive and controlling behaviour of women, only viewing women as baby machines, etc.).
She was not going 2 let anyone stand in her way 2 find out the truth about what happened with her sis but when she finds out a few things she can't believe her sis did she was shocked. But at least she will finally find out the truth and she gets the wolf of her dreams literally in the process. But a few people will get what they deserve in the process. It's like karma kicks ass when needed lol
