From the Shadow Side is a collection of short stories about Knoxville, Tennessee written by Jack Neely a local newspaper writer and Knoxville historian. Subject matter ranges from celebrities that have passed through town to the Streaking craze that dominated the local scene back in the 80's. Stories about local landmarks, places and people are all contained in this marvelous retelling of Knoxville history.

From the Shadow Side & Other Stories of Knoxville, Tennessee by Jack Neely (Tellico Books 2003) (976.885) is a collection of Knoxville stories from the author's column "Knoxville's Secret History" which was published in the weekly paper "The Metro Pulse." My rating: 7.0, finished 1/16/12.

Neely is Knoxville's non-academic history professor. He writes for a local rag and each week makes that rag a bit more interesting with his articles on Knoxville's history. These short stories are extended versions of those sorts of things. Good to read if you live or have lived in Knoxville, Tennessee.
