Fun read. I’ve been clearing my shelves of some very old book club items. This one is about 20 years old. I enjoyed the writing enough to order an old used copy of the next in the series, even though my goal has been to read the old and not order more until the shelves are clear.

This first in an older series is excellent! Snappy, witty writing with a fast paced mystery. The author does an excellent job with setting and characterisations. It's a series I enjoy returning to again and again.

I loved the author’s other character, Kick Keswick, in that series, so decided to give this book a chance, when I found a a free copy to borrow. Fun, light, quick read. Some excellent turns of phrase. Seems like a fun series to intersperse with other reads, as I find them.

Cozy murder mystery starring modern day Marshall Lilly Bennett, a rich, cultured, stylish, pistol packing, barrel racing, clothes horse with superb taste and excellent detective skills, returning to her home in Wyoming to avoid disgrace and firing from her job as Chief of Police in a major city because she got caught sleeping with a married California Supreme Court Justice. I swear I am not making this up. The books in this series are hilarious for the author has a tart tongue and strong opinions on nouveaux riche, the Beltway, the government, ranching,etc. all done tongue in cheek. Lilly is a satisfying heroine to root for and you have so much fun along the way that solving the crime almost seems an afterthought. The romantic interest is like icing on the cake. Check it out. You won't regret it.

Marne Davis Kellogg just might be my favorite author. Not because she writes like a genius or wows me with her knowledge, but because it's easy to read, yet well written with strong character development. I find myself escaping into a world I wish I could experience when I read her novels. Her main characters are strong, independent women that shine as heroes with very flaws of real women. Lily Bennet of Bad Manners is no different and took me on a journey into Wyoming ranch meets elitist symphony.

Another plucky detective heroine! Along the lines of Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone or Kellogg's Kick Keswick, Lilly Bennett is quite a character.

This book was pretty interesting; I kind of guessed the whodunit early on, but there were some twists and turns I didn't anticipate. Wrapped up a little too neatly, especially for what she says is a small Western town... But I still had a good time reading it.

This is the second book I've read by Marne Davis Kellogg, first Lily Bennett book, and while I like her writing and the characters she develops, the wheels felt like they were spinning for a lot of the middle section of the book. There was action at the very beginning and then the conclusion felt a little sudden after it seemed like she gained nothing throughout the middle to get her closer to solving the crime. I'll try another in the Lily Bennett series, hopefully it will be better.

This is an American twist on the classic house party murder. Rich (and much-hated) patriarch is killed during a party at his house in Wyoming. Smart-ass US Marshall/PI comes in to save the day. Very 80's in style, and the hard-drinking, big-spending crowd does not go over well in the 21st century.
